Electric weak to Rock???

the_showstopper

lover of Glaceons
Why does everyone say Electric is weak to Rock? Electric moves land 1x damage on Rock Pokemon (try thunderbolting a nosepass). And rock moves land 1x damage on Electric Pokemon (try rock slide on a pikachu)

You'd be surprised Thunderstar - some people are really that ignorant. it's only because of the Rock/Ground combos though. Not that I'm calling everyone who didn't know ignorant, but some people who would not accept the truth - if there's any, they are seriosuly ignorant.

Yeah, that rock ground thing...I didn't know that before I read this, thunderstar. I don't like being called ignorant, but it's true. My example though-
it was back from Yellow. My friend lent me it, and told me that if you any electric attack on ANY Rock Pokemon it won't effect...I sorta lived by that until now. Thanks showstopper!

To me, it's because Rock and Ground are similar... very similar. So people put 2 and 2 together and make 89.3.

It's because back in the R/B/Y, the only Rock Pokémon that didn't have the Ground type as a second type was Aerodactyl, and he was only used by Lance. And because Lance was so far in the game, nobody used Electric attacks against Rock Pokémon anymore.
I also think the anime said Electric attacks didn't work against Geodude because Geodude was a Rock Pokémon, instead of Ground Pokémon. And in the anime, an Electric attack doesn't affect Nosepass.

I think this has nothing to do with the anime... because if i recall that Pikachu defeated Onyx for the Boulderbadge, and Rhydon for the Volcanobadge... and many other things... I think its more of the rock/ground being together since the R/B/Y days. On the thing about rock being effective against rock, well i have no idea who says that but its not true...

Omanyte and Kabuto (and evolutions).

But yeah, your point still stands.

I forgot, the other fossil Pokémon. But they were really used by nobody in-game.

^True, because there was nowhere to train afterwards.

Yeah, about the Rock/Ground thing, hopefully with less Ground/Rock types people will more easily realise that Electric does normal damage against pure Rock, along with Fire does normal damage against Ground.

Im going with the rock/ground idea. There's plenty of rock/ground types out there, so I guess electric attacks won't do anything.

I'm pretty sure that Brock said (many times) that Electric moves don't affect rock types. That might just be in the dub though.

People will find out soon enough if they have a Rock Type with no Ground Type that Lightning moves work on them. I did. I thought my Aerodactyl would be immune to Thundershock. It wasn't.

I know loads of people who get mixed up with Rock and Ground. There are plenty who thing Shuckle is Bug/Ground and loads who think Swampert is Water/Rock. I also used to think that electric did not effect Rock or Ground because of the anime (despite the fact that Pikachu killed a Geodude with Thundershock). Until I battled Lance's Aerodactyl with my Pikachu did I realize that Electric actually effected it. A few turns later Lance's Dragonite froxe me with Blizzard and then Defrosted me with Fire blast before proceding to kill me with Hyper beam. :(

The anime goes against itself quite often with these sorts of things. Blame the anime for any confusion over the rock-ground-electric topic.

Of course, I guess people are just too lazy to look at their type charts when they have questions about these things! lol

Yes, it must be traced to the Anime and to the RBY days.
Now, out of 31 Rock types, only 8 are Rock/Ground. (or Ground/Rock, whatever) Back in RBY, out of 11 Rock types, 5 did not have an added Ground type.

It's funny, I figured out that it was ground that was immune, not rock, and would thunderbolt Lance's aerodactyl...so I thought rock was actually weak against electricity (until I thundershocked sudowoodo). Weird.
