Elemental Opposites

Just so everyone knows, this is a Sonic-related fic (but it doesn't star
him). It's not extremely violent;I guess I rate it PG. Please tell me if you think otherwise.

Also, many of these are my made up characters. Hope you all enjoy it!

Elemental Opposites

“No!” I heard a G.U.N. soldier scream. “Don’t let the hedgehog escape!!”

They were far behind us because of our incredible speed. We needed a temporary distraction. I stopped abruptly and turned; ready to fight the soldiers off. Apparently, Maria and Shadow didn’t like what I was doing.

“Shata, what are you doing?! Let’s go!” my brother, Shadow, yelled. But I didn’t move.

“You guys go on, I’ll hold them off,” I stated.

“But, Shata,” my friend, Maria pleaded. Those bright blue eyes would have stopped anyone. But I was too worried for them.

“GO! They’re after you two, not me! Don’t worry, I’ll be fine!” I yelled. With worry, they ran off, leaving me to face the G.U.N. troops alone. ‘They may outnumber me fifty to one, and I may be in a weak condition at this point, but I’m still more powerful than them,’ I thought to myself. It didn’t help much. They eventually turned the corner, only to stop in surprise in front of me.

“Move aside, hedgehog. You’re not the one we want. We don’t want to hurt you if we don’t have to.”

‘Tch, yeah right.’

“I guess you’ll have to hurt me, then,” I snapped. A large, metal door closed behind me on cue, signaling that they had to fight me. A few of them grew worried. “Like you could.” I added sarcastically. “And what do you mean by not wanting to hurt me if you didn’t have to? Look, I can tell you’re lying; it’s written all over your face. You’re just a coward.” Looks of worry suddenly turned to looks of shock and anger. Humans look so funny when they try to act tough.

“Boys,” their leader said slowly. Then he made a gesture that clearly meant to attack me. “Destroy her.”

Those two words echoed through the hall before the soldiers attacked. I decided to try to finish this quickly. Summoning my own black and white Chaos Emerald, I used one of my most destructive blasts, though not at full power since a hole in the wall could send us all flying into the depths of space. Oh, I forgot to mention; all of this was taking place on Space Colony Ark. That would help clear things up.

“CHAOS WAVE!”

A large red explosion caught many soldiers off-guard. Then everything went quiet. The only sound was coming from me. I had accidentally put too much energy into the blast; I was leaning against the wall, gasping for air. As the smoke cleared, it became evident what had happened: the impact on the soldiers had been too much for most of them. Lifeless corpses were lying everywhere. I hadn’t meant for this to happen. I only wanted them unconscious for a while. Killing was one of the things I hated to do most. Out of around fifty men, barely more than ten were still alive. ‘Aw, crud,’ I thought.

I nearly passed out against the wall; the remaining soldiers took advantage of this. The leader was still alive and was chasing after Shadow and Maria down the passage (how much could this guy take?). His men followed him. And me? Sitting on the ground letting them pass. What could I do? “Dang it,” I panted. “Shadow and Maria must’ve escaped by now.” I didn’t know how wrong I was, and I soon paid dearly for it.

Struggling to get up, I started off in the same direction as everyone else. Not able to bear the sight of the killed soldiers, I shut another metal door behind me since the first one was completely destroyed. I could hear the soldiers up ahead with my acute sense of hearing. At first, they didn’t seem far ahead. But when the voices sounded again, I realized that most of them were actually way ahead.

“Maria!” I heard Shadow shout. Next thing I heard was a trigger being pulled, a gunshot, and a scream. Emotional pain swept through me. I looked through a window to see a capsule headed for Earth. Inside that capsule was my brother, I was sure of it.

Arriving in the room where everyone was, I gasped in shock of the destroyed area that had been spotless minutes ago. Fragments of computers were scattered around the room. Glass had shattered everywhere. But worst of all was Maria, extremely still on the floor. The soldiers, those cowards, had left already. “They killed Maria…” I tried to force myself to believe she was still alive but unconscious, but it didn’t work so well. Tears welled up in my eyes, which was surprising considering I had never felt like this before. Suddenly, a sharp pain erupted in the back of my head, and I lost consciousness.

So, what do you all think? Please tell me if you think there's anything wrong with it! Please, please, review! I know you're there!
