Alright...oh how intimidating the 'New Thread" icon could be. *shudders*
Anyways, I had this in my mind for over six to seven months ago, but never planned to write it. Did the names suck, alas I changed them, but I still like my main character's.
You can say it's a Naruto based thing or its my own original idea, let's say its half. To tell you the truth I really don't know.
So, if there are any grammar mistakes, I welcome it. Any constructive crits, I'm happy; any plot crits, I'm crazy. Anything else falls under happy.
Prologue:
Icy gentle winds, blew onto my exposed neck, I felt the chill ignite with the fear that was growing within my heart. I shook the growing doubts off.
‘I must head out, either I die by the hands of others or by the forces of nature. I won’t back down, for my goal exceeds the safety of my home…’ The thought itself, struck fire of confidence at the doubts, I felt that my breathing had calmed.
“Farewell, Akane,” I whispered but loud enough to be heard; my voice was kept at a solemn tone, “You don’t have to tell me how you feel about me. I had dreams that are going to happen if I was to go out into the world.”
I turned around and faced the teenager who was standing still with a saddened look.
I gave her a comforting smile, she had kept silent, but I didn’t mind.
“I’m going to return at my own time, when I feel ready. At the time, when I have proven that I surpass you in fighting. But for now, I’ll be set on one goal: to kill Haya.”
~
Even now, I regret that I ever had head out in my foolish goal to kill a demon who took the lives of many.
Many pains I had to endure, many sadness and regret, they seemed so harsh, a lesson I could not take, but it was effective.
I have looked death in the eye and I have narrowly escaped it. When a knife comes my way, I dodge. Fights where I fought until the pursuer died, sometimes I was at disadvantages and I was at the brim of dying, but in close combat I killed my foe.
I even wished that I have died during one of those matches, than to endure yet another. I ask myself why I seek to do things the hard way, why I seem so forfeiting. And I ask myself, “Why am I doing this?”
One foolish and immature thought was my reason for fighting on. I had a very strong belief that I would return home, after I defeat Haya. And if I didn’t die under her needles, than that would bring shame upon my village, as the news spread country wide.
Many had thought that I had given up, many of them thought I died. Even I, had doubts in my own actions, my own doings.
Why I would go out into the unknown places, when it was certain that I was to die, it was a mystery.
Many of them say that I have been to the ends of the lands, and I have been mortally hurt by Haya. Others say that I have been saved from Haya by a woman and I stayed with her. Many stories, all different from one another, tell the tales of my journey.
But…I’ll tell it…my way…on what really happened…during eleven years…
†† Chapter One ††
I sat underneath a giant oak, that shaded the rays of the mid-afternoon sun. Occasionally, wind would fly through the tree, creating a calming sound from the leaves.
I stared in trance at the rippling waves of grass, thinking of nothing but the dangers I would face. I closed my dark violet eyes, and sighed.
‘Nothing is going to be easy, anymore…’
I slowly opened my eyes, I touched the soft leather pouch that was strung onto my right thigh. As small and cramped the pouch seemed, it contained many life-taking weapons. It was the things that will help me survive out here in the wilderness, I cannot waste one weapon.
I looked up into the clear sky, where birds of many flew. I stood up and wiped the dirt off my short white pants.
‘I had enough rest. I should continue to the nearest village…I can perhaps take shelter there…’
I left my resting spot, and my leather sandals pressed into the soft dirt, leaving an imprint. My destination was still far away, and I need to move as quickly and as fast as I can to avoid the blankets of darkness.
Many predators had stalked around these parts, and the best way to circumvent them, was to travel faster during daylight, than resting while being vulnerable to any attack.
What's my purpose of being out here? I was after a demon woman named Haya, a savage and a tricky mind.
Where Haya was, no one knew. I, on the other hand, had been given a clue on where that demon woman was planning to strike…
‘…You possibly think that you have completely won? Think again, young man, a simple spell of restraining me won’t hold out for long. And when the mist chains break and disperse, I will escape. And I will bring treachery down onto the land of harvest.
‘You, now, can’t stop me. Even alone may you taste defeat; in groups will you shatter…One thing may help you, but vast time spread will be the cost…’
Before I left in search of Haya, peace came and lingered for two short years, and I didn’t take the years for granted. Knowing that Haya was going to escape one day, I felt uneasy, and my mind was littered with thoughts that had a chance of happening...
I neared the forestry that inhabitated the right side of the path I was taking.
My legs felt heavy and strained; sweat streaked down my forehead and down to my chin. I’ve been walking for a long time.
I rested my hand upon rough bark, and stabled myself against the tree. I looked up at the sky; a mix of orange and red seemed carelessly thrown across the void. The sun was shining a rich texture of golden.
It was a sign of night fall, and it signaled a risky fate. I was far away from the next village, and the bold color of night seem to overtake take the brightness. Twilight would soon start to cover the sky and the temptation of sleeping was strong.
‘…No-I can’t rest-not for one bit…I…can’t…rest…now…’
I urged myself off the tree; I staggered around a bit, my legs felt tired and I would do anything to get some rest. But here in the outdoors, ‘rest’ is not in mind.
I ignored the pain of my legs and I continued to walk north, the opposite, from the village I came from.
I walked along the forest and bush, not wanting to get tangled in the deep vegetation. On the other side of the path, were vast lands coated with a sea of tall grass. It swayed with every lightest breeze, and it ran through the entire land.
Gentle winds skated the plains, as many rows of tall grass bent to show a silvery stream of light.
I felt a faint wisp of wind blow upon my dark violet hair. I felt my ruffled bangs tickle my right cheek; the long strand of hair fluttered like a ribbon while the wind lifted it up.
I continued walking down the dirt road, the dry dirt cracking into bits every step I took with my sandals.
After a long while, rising from the vast mountains was the shining sun. As the darkness crept away, the duskiness was gone from my eyes, and little by little, things became visible.
Before I had started to embark my way down a hill, I looked at the path and where it would lead me. A giant forest, thick with trees stood higher than the hill that I stood on, and I imagined the monsters lurking inside.
Wolves, foxes, insects, snakes, and eagles all stalked in the dark adumbration. I sighed, only my weapons may be of an assistance. Nothing else…
~
I walked into the dark forest, nothing now, but soon there will be. I clenched my fists and looked into the openings between the trunks, I had to move quickly. The faster I move, the sooner I would get out of the forest.
I started to weave through the trees; roots were creeping its way across the floor, so making way across the forest was difficult.
Many of my belongings got snagged on lower tree branches and many unnoticed roots tripped me.
“God, when can I get out of this?” I asked myself, after the seventh time of having a branch scar me.
“Now I regret on getting a sleeveless shirt…” I mumbled as I rubbed a scratch on my shoulder.
I instinctively looked up to determine night or day, but many layers of leaves blocked the light.
I dropped my sling bag onto the foot of the trunk, and I sat down.
‘Nngh. I have been walking for about two nights. With this rate, I am not able to tell whether its day or night. It’s just complete darkness.’
I flipped the flap that was covering the opening over to the side. I rummaged around until my hand grasped a small paper-bound package. I took it out into the open.
It was a small bundle able to fit comfortably in my palms. It was fixed with thin twine and it was tightly knotted. Though, as difficult-looking the knot seemed like, I was able to pull it loose.
I uncovered the package ad it revealed a rice ball, and I took a bite of it. I looked around the forest, as if I was expecting a animal to appear, I could hear faint chirping sounds, but a silent piercing noise struck my ears.
I stared at the ground in a trance, while I slowly ate my rice ball. Soon after, sounds of screeching thrashed its way into my consciences, and I broke out of my reverie.
My hands pressed deep into the soft dirt, and I propelled myself upwards. I was standing there, my eyes still skimming the landscape which encircled me. I pulled up my sling bag, and hoisted it on top of my right shoulder.
‘That screech…’
I suddenly realized, it was an hawk, and the screech seemed too loud for it to be defending its territory. It’s been critically injured…by a pack of wolves…
I dug my hand into my weapon pouch and took out a long slim knife, I examined it and then put my arm down to my side.
‘I’ll have to move quickly, wolves are near…’
I avoided most roots that was creeping its path across the floor, and I climbed through branches with ease and stealth. After I have been treading through the trees, I took a breather behind a large tree trunk.
“Today’s hunt was successful, wasn’t it?” a deep man’s voice sounded.
A small and lighter sounding voice responded, “Yes, I can’t wait until mother sees how many rabbits we have hunted.”
'There's other humans out here, what are they doing here, unarmed?
A large raspy cry rang behind the tree I was hiding. Faint noises of growling flashed. A desperate cry of the man and the young boy echoed in my head. I was struck shocked, the attack was sudden.
‘Hiakre! Move! Save them, why aren’t you moving? Go! They’re dieing! They need assistance!”
As much as I commanded myself to move, my feet stuck frozen to the ground. I felt a thud that pounded against my chest, one after another. Cold sweat ran down my forehead; my eyes widen in horror.
The voices fainted and all was quiet except the noises that emitted from the predator.
Even if I had to fight them, my training and skills cannot match the greed and violence that belonged to the wolves of the forest...
~End~
^_^" Why it suddenly jumped into action like this, I will never know. I can't seem to break it slowly. So yeah, it kinds of seemed rushed.
Comments, crits, and advice are welcomed.
