Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Natural born killers, or confused teenagers?

For quite some time I've analyzed the behavioral patterns exhibited by both Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold and I've uncovered a lot of hostility towards law enforcement and law simply on it's own.

Dylan Klebold has been renowned for his depression and lack of confidence, whereas Eric has been noted for his psychotic demeanor and horrible temper. Both went off and attacked the innocent people at Columbine highschool on April 20, 1999 as high school seiners, showing that they are in fact, capable of mass murder and causing harm to the general public.

Eric Harris showed his hate for "mankind" in his online journal which can be reached easily by Googling his name and searching through the first few links at the top of the page. This shows his absolute disrespect for the mentally retarded, racists and almost every group of people. He blatantly admits to creating bombs and planning the attack, yet people still see Eric as an innocent person persuaded by "games" and "television" to purchase firearms and hold up the local high school at which he attended.

Dylan Klebold hasn't shown the same attributes Eric has. In fact, he's been known to be quite timid and usually keeps to himself instead of yelling out obscenities and attacking people online. His journal entries eventually mimic that of Eric's, but before the "1998 incident" Dylan posted in his diary in a subtle, causal and average manner. Dylan wasn't a natural born killer, but instead a respectable high school student who took the wrong path and listened to the wrong people.

In conclusion, I think that Eric Harris is a "natural born" killer and that Dylan Klebold slowly morphed into what Eric already was. A mass murderer.

I do agree with you. The Columbine incident was a horrific reminder of what uncontrolled teenage fury/angst can lead to, the implications of which may range from a simple brawl to a massacre. In my opinion, Dylan Klebold was in fact a "confused teenager", one who heavily succumbed to peer pressure, before even realizing his mistake. Eric, on the other hand was known to suffer from borderline psychological disorders and was inherently hostile and an attention-seeker. The duo formed a deadly combination as seen in the Columbine massacre and to this day is a chilling reminder of the capabilities of the Freudian "death-drive" (Thanatos).

That's... great?

Never post in the Debates forum again.

I read that there was evidence that there were multiple killers on the scene besides Harris and Klebold. Even though it wasn't ultimately counted in the accepted conclusion.

Nice research you've done. I applaud you.

We just naturally like to take the easy way out when it comes to blaming who. It just goes to show how much we actually pay attention to our younger generation when it comes to things like this. We have no idea what it's like to be a kid/teen, we have no idea what they do (and if what they're doing is actually CAUSING ANYTHING), and most importantly why can't people ever get correlation =/= causation?

I think that the way teens let out their emotions is what leads to how they turn out, Eric did not do it in a good way and he made Dylan the same way.

However, it taught us how to better handle guns and how ruthless and cruel teenagers actually are to each other. In a perfect world, I wouldn't have it happen, but I think high schoolers are safer now than back then.

The 2 angry dudes had some mind issues, there are many young boys who kill, they join gangs and such and do many more crimes than these guys, but even they don't have a reason to shoot up a school like these 2 emotionally disrupted guys. Who knows what warped their minds.

I think I can understand how they felt a little. I mean... when someone is picked on that much, and no one cares about his feelings... it's infuriating. You just want people to take you seriously and respect you, but everything you try gets laughed at. I've never had it as bad as they did, but...

As for the one who always had issues... who knows how that happened. Could have something to do with his background, or it could have been something genetic. Some people just have something wrong with their brains that they can't relate to other people.

But on the whole, I think incidents like this happen when someone is treated inhumanely, or if he's treated like he doesn't matter. It doesn't make it ok, of course. But... the attackers hurt themselves when they do things like this, too. Even if it weren't for killing themselves or going to jail, they sever their connections with other people, and I think there's regret for them once they die and are able to understand the consequences of their actions. But I don't think they're just bad people, either.

I really can't stand when people need to find a justification for why bad people do bad things. Is it a tragedy that some people lost their lives in that incident? Absolutely. But to blame it on depression, or peer pressure, or any other excuse is just baloney.

They made a CHOICE. They DECIDED that they were going into school packing an arsenal of weapons and they were going to do as much damage as possible.

And in regards to them being "natural born killers", every single person has the capacity for violence and destruction.

There are plenty of people who have had worse childhoods than theirs, myself included. Hell I was even frisked prior to my graduation ceremony because people thought I would shoot up the school. Do you know how humiliating that is on a day you're supposed to be celebrating?

Those 2 chose their actions and they paid the price whether in this life or the next. The only proper thing to do is to never forget an incident like this and think twice about kicking a person when their down, because everyone has the capacity for violence no matter how weak they appear.

^i agree with you slightly, of course one can not blame depression alone, but they did make that choice for a reason.

Seeing as they were close friends, it would make sense that Klebold would begin to pick up on Harris's behavioral patterns. Maybe Klebold was forced into this by Harris, or maybe he was pressured, and wanted to, in a sense, impress or live up to Harris.

I think it was Harris's whole thing. I just watched Bowling for Columbine the other day, and they said at one point that he had written something about a plane carshing into a building in new york which did happen on 9/11/2001. He obviously was a freaking psycopath. Im not sure Klebold was, but i think he obviously had some major issues. At the same time though, he chose to go along with Harris and participate in the Massacre.

This isnt anybody's fault but Harris and Klebold's. No one made them do it, they chose to buy the guns and go on a shooting rampage and now anybody in school that does anything anybody considers strange, weird, creepy etc. makes them dangerous, and its their fault.

Your right, we can analyze it as much as possible but in the end, they made their own decisions and that is all there is to it.
