I can't seem to raise my stat more then +1 I've been endlessly fighting Tentacool and leveling, but it only ever raises my SD, +1.....why?
I don't have max EV in that stat.....

How much do you like algebra? Good! Here's the way to determine a Pokemon's stats at any level provided you know its Base Stats, IVs and EVs:

Stat = Math.Floor(((BaseStat * 2 + IV + Math.Floor(EV/4)) * Level/100 + 5) * P)

HP = (BaseStat * 2 + IV + Math.Floor(EV/4)) * Level/100 + 10 + Level

Math.Floor means that everything in parenthesis after that is rounded down. P is the effect personality, or Nature, will have on the stat and is either .9, 1, or 1.1. Thanks to Ken J. Egervari on GameFAQs for this information. Just plug in the EVs you think you have for your stats so far, your suspected IVs, the Base Stats of the Pokemon and its current Level into the apropriate places in the right equation here and you will know what stats your Pokemon should have. If you need to figure out your Pokemon's Base Stats, you can find that out here:

If you'd like to figure out how many points a stat should rise by after leveling up, there is an equation for that in the first post of this thread:

But you're not telling me why my stat won't raise even though I have the correct amount of EV points everytiem I level? And that is confusing. lol

If you understand the equations, they will tell you exactly how your stats should be behaving and how many points they should be rising when you level up. Essentially, since the stats are dynamically calculated with those equations, the increase you get when you level up is the expected total boost at Level 100 divided by 100. So, if your Pokemon has 252 Effort Points in, say, Attack, that means that at Level 100 it would have 63 (252 / 4 = 63) extra points. So, when it level up, it will gain .63 points in Attack more than normal (63 / 100 = .63). But, since the game rounds everthing down before adding it to the new stats, you won't see that additional point every turn (Math.Floor(.63) = 0, Math.Floor(.63 * 2) = Math.Floor(1.26) = 1), instead you will see the extra point show up about 2 out of every three levels. This is true of all levels after the level at which you earned the Effort Points. On the level you earned the points, you see a larger increase because the previous levels where you didn't have those points are suddenly being tallied up and their contributions added to the stat increase. Like I said earlier, though, just understanding the equations and how the game uses them will answer pretty much any question you have about EVs, except where the best training locations are.

You'll notice the stat increase at higher levels.
