EV Training - Confused

im trying the ev training... i breeded my team to eggs to start my team over by really training them.... i wanted to get attack up for swablu and according to the EV training guide here (on serebii) poochyena should give 1 ev point for attack .... i had my swablu fight about 30 of these in a row (until it leveled up) but it still only raises the attack stat by 2 ... (swablu also has the macho brace on him too) ... is this right? ... im confused by the whole EV training method...
