EV Training Pikachu

It was my first time doing this, so I EV trained its Special Attack, and Special Defense *after giving it 10 vitamins for both stats first* and using the berrys to make it evolve from Pichu. I used the macho brace as well to make things easier.

I traded it over to my Fire Red, so I can boost up the leveling much quicker *over 5000 just battling Loreli's Lapras.

But now I am starting to get concerned.

Look at the stats it has.

Pikachu @ Light Ball Lv 66
252Sp At EVs/ 252 Sp Def EVs/
Naughty Nature

HP - 136
Attack - 92
Defense - 56
Special At - 116 (232 with Light Ball)
Special Df- 87
Speed - 142

I am experimenting at the moment, but with Naughty Nature, am I going in the right direction, or did I mess it up completely?

Well, Naughty raises it's attack and lowers a stat you EV-trained in: special defense. So you can decide for yourself whether messed up or not.

Yeah I realised what the Naughty Nature raises, I'm just wondering if its Special Attack and Defense is going at the right direction, because I have no clue. Also, is it true that when it reaches lv 100, the extra points will show after putting it inside the PC, and back out?

Pikachu's stats aren't too hot, so your Special Attack is good enough, since it has a base of 50 or something. Special Defense, well....I can't say, he has a special defense lowering nature, so whatever you do with the EV's, it'll stay low.

All I can say is: you're probably going to notice the effects of EV-training more when you reach higher levels. At least that's how I thought it worked. The best way to tell if you have EV-trained properly is to train Pikachu to level 100 (or rare candy him, since it doesn't matter anymore now you've completely EV-trained him), take things like nature and IV's and EV's in consideration and then compare them to it's maximum possible stats (you can find them on the internet at various places). If you have max stats or very close to max, you're good.

EDIT: Yes, but only if that Pokemon doesn't have 512 EV's yet. It also works for non-100 Pokemon I've seen.

So I am going in the right direction.

Forgot that IVs will be invovled. How will I know that the EVs worked when at Level 100? Will it go +100 *example* or do I have to put it in the box, then take it out again to notice the difference?

I think as soon as you hit level 100 and you've gained all the EV's, you can be assured the EV's worked. It won't have a special level up like: SP ATK +30 or something like that (though the ones I trained to level 100 did get the best level up possible stat-wise, but no crazy stat-ups), but you'll just know, because you reached level 100 if you know what I mean. If you've got the full amount of EV's, you'll have all the extra points in the particular stats. The box trick only works if you haven't got all the EV's yet.

I don't know all this for sure, but I THINK it works like this. If I'm wrong, please tell me. ^_^

What is the percentage of achieving a Modest Pichu? Male especially.

Been hatching eggs, and the closest I got was Naive :S

good luck dude, if you just raise the pikachu with any Evs then maybe (ONLY if emerald) you an reduce them with berries. Once about 90+ you will defos feel the EVs dig in. My 97 gyarados im raising in attack. after reducing his defence I used 4 Ev reducing berries on Defence, hit lvl 98 and it had +10 attack.

If EVs start on lvl 99 then develop straight to max. So it can equal easily a +64 in attack! Maybe more if the pokemon were to gain the stat anyway. I hope this helps... ask if you dont understand

Nah I got the hang of it now, I just need an extra advice.

I got a modest Pichu, stuffed it with berries *defense and special defense* and it said that the stats won't fall, that's good :)

After that, I gave it 10 Vitamins of Calcium

What EVs do you think I should raise also?

Also, because I used 100 EVs on Special Attack, how many Spinda do I battle to max its EVs. I do have the macho brace, but I'm worried that it won't raise its speed as much, beacause that is what Pikachu specialises in.

well with a macho brace, I'd say 76 spindas!

But if you have pkrs and macho brace, 38!

If you don't have neither I would collect the macho brace from the winstrate fam.

I got the macho brace, but not the Pokerus *hits desk*

Cheers, I'll get back to you on this, first time doing this sort of thing.

By the way, seeing as that question hasn't been answered yet, your speed won't be lowered permanently. It's speed growth will be the same as it would've been without the Macho Brace, only in battle will you notice it's effect. If you put the Macho Brace off, everything is normal again. It doesn't affect speed out of battle.

Good luck. :)

Cheers, what about the other EVs, I got Special Attack, what else do you think I should raise?

Please, if you have EV-related questions post them in the EVs/IVs discussion sticky.

If you have more questions on how to raise your Pikachu post it in RMT.

Thanks!
