Existing Characters in a Fan Made Region?!

Hi all, I have came with a query. Is it a good idea to have a currently existing character to hold an important title (eg. Gym Leader, Champion, Pokemon Researcher) in a Fan-made Region?

I'm currently building a fan fic on fan made regions and I'm just curious if I can get existing characters to be an important person in that region. For example, is it plausible to put Brycen, who had retired from the gym leader position, to put him into the E4 of the fan-made region? Will it be a bad idea, despite proper explanations are provided?

Well, if enough reason and explanation is given, and the fanmade region is close enough to the region that character is from so it would be plausible, I guess it could work, as long as not too much are used in that way.

dirkac's advice is solid. If there's a good reason for a canon character who's already established in one region to go to another, go for it. You just don't want to overpopulate your new region with canon characters at the risk of coming across like you were just too lazy to make up your own characters or anything like that.

The proximity of your region with a canon one can also be important if you want a number of characters coming over. If it's as easy as just crossing a nearby border, people are more likely to travel. Plus one of the reasons it worked out for Koga to go from Gym Leader to Elite Four was because it was technically the Elite Four of both Kanto and Johto. Of course, that doesn't mean that a character couldn't go to a region that's further away, but in that case you'd really need a decent reason for them to go so far.

Anyhow, it all comes down to having a good reason for the character to travel. Otherwise, it's not a problem. :>

While there's nothing wrong with it, per say, as those above me have said, make sure that there's a valid reasoning to it. Remember, in BW2, Brycen retired from his gym to focus on his movie career. There's got to be something that brought him away from the movies and back into battling. Just putting him there because, I don't know, most of the region is icy and he's an ice specialist or, more superficially, you happen to like his design and want to pay him an homage is going to seem off to the reader.

It's likely that most people who will read the fic will know that Brycen quit being a gym leader to become an action star again. So if you can come up with a valid explanation as to why he leaves the movies again, and goes back to being in the pokemon league system, again, go for it. If you can't, but still want him there doing that, go back to the drawing board and look at it from other angles.

Yeah, as said by others as long as the reason is established and makes sense it'd be fine.

There's even some canon cases for it. Cynthia is the E4 member for Sinnoh but came from Unova. And a member of the Battle Frontier in Sinnoh/Johto (HGSS) is now an E4 member of Unova's league. Try looking into those some more if you need to.

Depends how you make it work. If Brycen likes to travel (actory travelling?) then you can say he became 'enchanted' with the new region. If you make the Elite Four like a 'job filler' thing then you could say that the Elite Four 'leaders'(or whatever) asked him to come.

So, basically, there are tonnes of way you could make it work, but just make it plausible.
