Extra-Terrestrial Life : Are we Alone?

It would be interesting to know how many civilizations have risen and fallen since the
universe began.

Even in our own galaxy.

What if the aliens are already here?!
Saw this on a different forum and then noticed this thread,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8NNHmV3QPw
(WARNING - extremely long!!)

Not that I'm saying it is true but the idea is kind of interesting.

It's not true and it's not interesting. I watched 10 minutes and that was enough to know why it's false.

Other than all the "soul" things, it said that:
1. There have been life on Marsh (not impossible).
2. That life was multicellular, had two genders whose typical properties are the same as the difference between human genders, had the same type of emotions as humans and the same brain split as humans.

That would only be possible if humans originates from Marshians that immigrated to Earth and that would only make sense if all other Earth species also comes from Marsh (due to the genetical similarities). That would contradict the theory of evolution.

aliens are ****en real. considering that the universe is trillions of trillions of trillions (and so on) miles long, I think we are probably not the only living planet in the world. heck, we might meet an alien bigger then jupiter

Neighbor? Neighbor!
Life? Of course.
Intelligent Life? Ummm... *unsure how to answer* Quite possibly. They might just not have advanced-enough technology to contact us. And anyway we wouldn't be able to understand them, most likely.

Well statistically it seems absolutely impossible that life has only and will ever exist solely on Earth... and it seems even more impossible when you consider what life on Earth has survived (Snowball Earth, Altering Atmosphere, Heavy Volcanism, Comets, The Great Dying, etc) .

What nature that life takes, has taken or will take is another question entirely. After all it seems terribly arrogant to limit ourselves to thinking the only life that matters in the universe is intelligent life and that must mimic us in biology - heck I'd say that Cetaceans (Whales, Dolphins and Porpoises) are intelligent life and they're carbon based aquatic earthlings... never mind all the other elements life could be composed by and what environments they can survive.

Yes of course, maybe nothing like we could imagine but if life can exist somewhere, it does.

Individual ( Don't ask name, my grandfather ):
I was at the country in 1945 with your great grandparents. We had milk and I was going to bed at 12 after catching some lil' critters out in the good ol' wood. When I covered up and was sleeping, I had what I thought was a dream of an unidentified creature taking me away, and when I got up, I was lying flat out on the wood without a sense of anything that was going on around me...

The rest of his story was blah blah about...something, wasn't taking him on. Anyway, this got me interested in extra terrestrial life and from hearing this story to now, I always caution myself when hearing strange noises or seeing weird things. So, yeah, but for the crop circle etc. it has to be intelligent life out there...somewhere, probably looking at us right now. Have you guys ever looked at the sky? Those stars...don't you think those stars are actually thousands of millions of life watching us as we look up there? Don't you think that as you piss in the toilet, read this or whatever you are doing now, something, somewhere is watching you? Oh, it's all so exciting!

I think I'll go to the mall and rent some alien movies tomorrow and watch it tomorrow night while eating popcorn and reading/posting in this thread:) I mean, when you think about it...doesn't it all feel strange and lonely for us to be the only race in the universe? It's night time, go outside and stand still, focusing...doesn't it all feel exciting!!!!

How would we know if the extra terrestrial life is a person. Would a alien that came to earth be given the same rights as us humans? (If they would be able to live on earth anyway)

Osha!

Osha!
Us humans really don't know. I personally think thousands of years ago, ancient aliens visited Earth.

Without any modern technology-powered machines, how could the Egyptians have built pyramids with blocks of stone over 10 tons a block?

It's even been proven, a few thousand years ago Mars had water on its surface and held simple life forms (such as bacteria) by meteorites from Mars.

Also, if there are, we cannot begin where to explain how they look. They could have antennae, four arms, four legs, who knows? Maybe they're even Pokemon.... 0.0

No, no, no. ALH 84001 is NOT definite, indisputable proof of Martian life. There is as of now NO definite, indisputable proof of extraterrestrial life.

Phoopes

There it is.
Are we alone?

Probably. No definitive proof for the other side, just speculation. Though I wouldn't rule it out if we weren't. Universe is a big place, after all.

The ancient aliens theory is full of holes. How could they have survived on Earth? They would've had to evolve on a planet virtually identical. And the nearest star is so far away it takes light millions of years to get there. And you can't go faster than light. So how did they get here? And even if these things were explained, the question remains: If aliens influenced our past, why haven't they come back? If they visited us in the past, why aren't we hearing from them now?

As for the pyramids...

To think the who-knows how big universe is just inhabited by us humans? Sorry, I don't believe that
