F•R•I•E•N•D•S - The New Generation
A few years ago, a woman named Rachel Green left her fiancé on the altar and fled to New York. There, she was reunited with her childhood friend, Monica Geller, and the two became roommates. From there, six young twenty-something year olds became fast friends and their friendships stuck firm. They led typical yet turbulent lives: Rachel was originally a waitress at the coffee house Central Perk, Monica was a chef at a downtown restaurant, Phoebe Buffay was a masseuse, Ross Geller was a paleontologist, Joey Tribbiani was an aspiring actor and Chandler Bing worked in statistical analysis and data reconfiguration.
They regularly had coffee in their hang-out spot, Central Perk, and the years passed by and their lives went through drastic highs and lows. In the first year after Rachel moved in with Monica, Ross’s lesbian ex-wife, Carol, had Ross’s baby and named him Ben, Chandler attempted to break up with his nasal girlfriend, Janice Litman Hosenstein, many times unsuccessfully, Phoebe falls in love with a scientist named David who then breaks up with her as he was bound for Minsk, and Ross fell in love with Rachel and left for a bone excavation in China, just when Rachel realises it
In the second year, even more happened. It began when Rachel discovered that Ross was dating Julie, someone he knew from grad school and was reunited with in China. Rachel’s attempts to tell Ross she likes him mirrored his own failed attempts in the previous year but finally, the two finally confess and start dating. Meanwhile Joey got a part in the soap opera Days of Our Lives but later on in that year lost the part soon after when he angered the writers by saying in an interview that he writes many of his own lines. Richard, a recently divorced friend of Ross and Monica’s parents who was twenty-one years older than Monica and had grown children started-up a relationship with Monica. But near the end of the year, the two ended the relationship when they realised that Richard didn’t want any more children and she did.
The third year began with a great start. Rachel quit her job as a waitress and began working at Bloomingdales. Soon, Ross became jealous of her co-worker, Mark. After many months of blissful love, Ross and Rachel broke-up after Ross, unaware, slept with the attractive girl from the copy shop, Chloe. Phoebe, who knew no close family except for her grandmother and her identical twin sister, became acquainted with her half-brother and discovered the birth mother she never knew she had.
As a great and sweet gesture to strengthen her bonds with her half-brother, Phoebe became the surrogate mother to the children of her brother and his wife in the fourth year. Ross and Rachel briefly reconciled but soon broke up again. Mid-year, having moved on, Ross began dating an English woman called Emily and proposed to her. The two agreed to have a London wedding. In London, Chandler and Monica slept together when, after a wedding guest mistook Monica for Ross’s mother and Monica sought comfort in the arms of a friend. Ross and Emily then ended their relationship after Ross replaced Emily’s name with Rachel’s while saying his wedding vows.
The fifth year since Rachel moved in was relatively uneventful compared to the previous years. Monica and Chandler continued to see each other after that night and London and tried to keep their new relationship a secret from their friends. Their relationship eventually became public and on a trip to Las Vegas, they decided to get married, only not to when Ross and Rachel drunkenly stumbled out of the wedding chapel. It turned out Ross and Rachel’s marriage was a drunken mistake and the two get divorced, much to Ross’s reluctance.
In the sixth year, Monica and Chandler moved into her apartment together and as a consequence, Rachel moved in with Phoebe. Joey got a part on a cable television series called “Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E” while Ross, after getting fired at the museum, got a job lecturing at New York University and began dating a student. Then Phoebe and Rachel’s apartment had a fire causing Rachel to move in with Joey and Phoebe with Chandler and Monica. After many obstacles stopping him, including Monica’s ex-boyfriend, Richard’s reappearance, Chandler finally proposed to Monica and she accepted.
While Chandler and Monica prepared to get married, the other friends had mnany changes in their lives as the seventh year passed. Joey’s television series was cancelled but he got back his old job back on Days of Our Lives. Phoebe’s apartment was fixed but due to the way the apartment has been rebuilt, Rachel had to stay with Joey. Monica and Chandler then get married but at the wedding, Rachel revealed she was pregnant. The father was Ross and the pregnancy was a product of a drunken tryst and a faulty condom.
In the eight year, Joey began to develop romantic feelings for roommate Rachel and when Joey revealed his feelings for her, things became awkward for the two. Meanwhile, after Rachel decided to keep the baby, Ross offered Rachel to move in with her so they could raise their child together and she accepted. After Joey and Rachel’s friendship returned to its status quo, Rachel gave birth to a girl and named her Emma Geller-Green. At the same hospital, the group bumped into Janice, now a Goralnick, and she also gave birth, a boy named Aaron Litman a day before Emma’s birth.
But after a fight with Ross over control, Rachel elected to move back in with Joey as the ninth year began. Monica and Chandler, inspired by Ross and Rachel, decided to try and conceive a child of their own. They sought medical advice after several episodes of trying for a baby, and to their dismay, discovered that both of them had high chances of not conceiving a child. Meanwhile, Phoebe started dating an ex-attorney and pianist, Mike Hannigan, and they fall in love. But then David, Phoebe’s old flame, returned from Minsk permanently, forcing Phoebe to choose between Mike and David. The group went to Barbados to hear Ross give a keynote speech at a Palaeontologist conference and many dramatic events happened here. Rachel was now enamoured with Joey and Ross was desperately attracted to Charlie Wheeler, Joey’s girlfriend and his palaeontologist colleague. But in Barbados, Joey and Charlie broke up and Joey and Rachel commenced a relationship together and Ross did the same with Charlie.
Many things happen in the tenth year after Rachel met Monica. Monica and Chandler decided to adopt a child, and met Erica, a birth mother from Ohio. Erica gave birth to twins, Erica and Jack, and gave them to Chandler and Monica. Phoebe and Mike got married towards the end of the year and Rachel took a job based in Paris. Monica and Chandler moved out of their apartment into the suburbs. Ross, finally realising what he had done wrong, declared his love to Rachel and tried to stop her from moving to Paris. Rachel still got on the plane even with Ross's confessions, but later appeared at his apartment door admitting she loves him too. The two finally resumed their relationship and finally, the six returned their keys to Monica and Chandler’s apartment and that saga of their lives ended.
The six of them still maintained their friendships but were not as close as before. Many things happened after Ross and Rachel got back together for good. Joey moved in Los Angeles for a new job and a new life, and became a successful Hollywood actor. He eventually won a Golden Globe and a few prestigious film nominations. Chandler got promoted and became a senior executive at his advertising firm, and he and Monica eventually had their first biological child, Phoebe Rachel Bing. They had another child after that too (Ross Joseph Bing). Ross and Rachel got married and had their second child soon after (Leonard “Leo” Geller). Together with Mike and Phoebe, they moved to the suburbs close by to Chandler and Monica. Mike and Phoebe also had two children (Frank and Lilly Hannigan).
But now that the generation of the six friends was over, it was time for a new generation of friends to take over. A new generation of six twenty-something year old forming close bonds of friendship with each other and living their daily lives in Greenwich Village, New York. There will be highs and lows in their lives but even when the rain starts to pour, they would always have each other and the coffee at Central Perk.
Emma Geller didn’t know she was to be part of this generation. She didn’t know her life would soon mirror aspects of her parents and their friends’ lives. All Emma knew was that she was now a twenty-something year old, just rented out a flat in Greenwich Village, New York with a female roommate and she was planning to get coffee at Central Perk – A LOT. It is time for a new generation of Friends and let’s see their lives move up and down in the span of ten years.
You will play one of the six Friends. Whether you want to do commerce, or still in university/college, or even unemployed, is up to you. This RPG is VERY open-ended and there is no “pre-destined” ending. This is a pretty freeform story as long as you stay within the following guidelines and bear in mind that what ever you do with your character, the six of you will always be friends and your friendship with the other five friends is what matters the most. The objective of the game is to have “achieved the goals of your friend’s life” and still have your close friendship with the other five friends in ten years time. Whatever you do with your friend’s life is up to you.
These are the six Friends you will have to choose from: Emma Geller, Emma’s new female roommate, Emma’s old female college roommate, Emma’s old college roommate’s new male roommate, that new male roommate who happens to be family friends with Emma’s new female roommate, post-nose job Aaron Litman (Janice’s son) who happens to be best friends from high school with Emma’s new roommate, and Aaron’s new male roommate.
Here a diagram to make it easier to understand which character is related to whom: DIAGRAM
The RPG starts when Emma’s new roommate says to Emma “Hey, I know this great coffee house near Central Park. Maybe we can hop over there regularly for a snack or something! And yeah, and by the way, I have someone to introduce to you Emma! It’s my best friend from high school, Aaron Litman. He recently got a new roommate so I thought I’d be nice to arrange a meeting with Aaron and his new roommate! We could introduce them to our best friends, [Girl 1] and [Boy1]!” The RPG begins at Central Perk when all six characters meet each other for the first time.
And that’s how it all begins. This RPG, like I said, is ultra freeform so be free to do whatever you want as long as it’s within guidelines.
Now, the sign-up form.
[Sign-up Form for (insert Emma Geller, Girl 1, Girl 2, Aaron Litman, Boy 1 or Boy 2 in here depending on who you choose)]
Name: (Anything you want unless you chose Emma or Aaron.)
Gender: (Male or Female. Three boys and three girls are up for grabs)
Age: (25-27)
Description: (Don’t describe their exact clothing. Just the style they tend to wear plus anything they wear ALL THE TIME. Come on, guys, these are real people. They DO change clothes time to time. XP. Five-six lines minimum)
Personality: (How they act towards other people and themselves. I’d like about five lines minimum please.)
Occupation/Job: (These are young adults. They get their bacon from somewhere.)
History: (Include stuff like what they were like growing up, their romantic history, job history, and how they met their current roommate and such. This part really depends on which character you chose. For example, if you choose Girl 2, you will have to explain who you met Boy 1 and Emma. Every time you mention Boy 1, Girl 2 or any other character who doesn’t have a name, insert [Girl 1/Girl 2/Boy 1/Boy 2] in instead until I approve that character and their name. Be reasonable and don’t describe characters that haven’t been approved yet in great detail in this part. For Emma or Aaron, be reasonably in-canon. i.e. Emma’s siblings, Aaron is post-nose job and embarrassed by his parents, etc.)
Other: (Anything else?)
I won’t actually role-play as one of the six friends. I will add my characters at a later time. They will be recurring characters and/or canon ones. Most of them will be for plot purposes, so watch out.
Reservations for this RPG will last for 4 days past the date they are given, unless I am PM-ed about special cases, which I am willing to grant. I will only take in six people. One character each; no LSUs. I might allow secondary characters after a point. Might. I do expect high quality - if I am concerned about your ability I will ask for a sample RP.
Just to make sure you actually read everything, include the words "Central Perk" in Bold as the first words of your post.
I reserve the right to boot you from the RPG if your performance is inadequate.
Let the signups begin.
