Note: The below is a RUMOUR and should not be taken as fact until confirmation by Nintendo/GF

"A faction is simply a group of people who hold similar interest. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl is rumored to have factions. Such as a faction of trainers interested in certain pokemon types, or many secret underground factions dedicated to evil. Factions may give you exclusive quests and may be able to teach your pokemon moves that can only be taught in that faction" - from www.pokemonwifi.com

I doubt you would ever be allowed to join the evil organisation in DP, but imagine the game had WiFi factions - a 'clan' that joined together, automatically had access to every other faction member's secret base and also had action to a faction-exclusive union room style room, where faction members had the chance to meet up, battle, trade etc. Several factions could partake in tournaments to see which faction is the greatest! Wouldn't this make DP by far the best in the Pokemon series?

A faction doesn't necessarily have to be made a part of the game to exist....
In several online games people create factions even if the game doesn't support it so as they can have a group fo people that have each others information for online play. If they aren't made initially part of the game there will definately still be factions created because people will start online groups with webpages that recruit people... give each other's friends codes.. mix bases, etc. They could also take on online tourneys with other groups just for the sheer fun of it.
My thoughts are that factions will not be made a part of the game but people will in fact create factions outside of the game for such online battles, trading, rivalries. So it doesn't matter whether nintendo/GF confirms it or not because as most online play goes... it'll be made a fact even if the players have to make it post-release

I don't think this will ever happen, and every rumour I know about Pokemon, it's not true, and I am not going to believe this one too.

This idea doesn't sound like something you would see in the regular pokemon RPGs maybe in a spin-off.

As cool as this sounds, I doubt it's gonna be true. Especially if you can battle other factions in something like a "war".

Yeah.....wars would be a risk, but I'm sure Nintendo could figure out some way to set up a system of local admins or something to keep things civil.

Its odd, but I heard about this several months ago, well when it was just saying about new games coming out without names. You could join different teams, but now I'm hoping for like guilds, that can have a base where you can hang out.

If it is true, it's great!
I can't wait for this feature because in Turkey, the number of Pokemon players who have nintendo DS otr GBA is very low.
I hope it is not a dream.

Wow, that sounds like a great idea. I'd love to join an ingame club dedicated to certain pokemon or to certain battle style.

In-game it'd make more sense than taking on the evil team single-handedly, as other trainers will finally get off their butts and help you out.

Even if it's not true, as DarkSpectrum said, it can be done post-release.
