Wanting his TV show to end doesn't mean he doesn't love it - in fact, I think from a creative standpoint, it's the opposite. He has respect for this show and has clearly wanted it to end before it got the reputation that so many people here and all over the world have already given it - that it sucks.
If the show had ended in season 7, I doubt that people would be saying that same things about Family Guy that they are now. It was right around season 7 that the quality started to go down (with some exceptions, they have still put out some really good episodes).
But we all know how a major TV network is, and FOX isn't just going to let Family Guy go.
I love Family Guy, but I can't say I would blame him for ending it. Like he said, being on the air for this many seasons is a rare honor. Most shows on TV don't make it past 2, and some can make it to 5. But if you count the number of shows that lasted 8, 10, ****, 20 seasons, you'll only have a handful of shows, so to have your show in that category is a real accomplishment, especially considering this is a show that was cancelled twice and revived twice.
So, unless Family Guy can pull a "Simpsons" (they did do everything first!) and improve the quality of the show, I wouldn't vilify MacFarlane for putting this on the shelf.
Family Guy is an unfunny show. Get rid of it so we can free up time on the network for something actually good.
Yeah, because Fox is known for airing good shows.
You would get that joke if you watched Family Guy
If they are to cancel FG, they might as well cancel Cleveland show and American Dad.
American Dad isn't that bad actually. It has a much higher writing quality than the Cleveland Show, and right now, a higher quality than Family Guy.
I have to wonder how much of the "unfuniness" is from Fox leadership, as opposed to SMcF himself.
If you can, listen to the commentary on the Futurama episode "I Roomate." They talk about how the FOX censors forced the writers to use their ideas and then turned around and called it the worst episode ever.
FOX Executives are supposed to make sure the shows last for a while, but they need to stay out of the creative process. The result is never good.
If The Simpson's can last 21 seasons, Family Guy can too.
Sorry, but the Simpsons shouldn't have lasted 21 seasons, at least not with the crappy quality of most of those later seasons. They've turned it around, but I can't recall any spectacular episodes between season 10 and 21.
I used to like Family Guy. Then I turned sixteen. It is misogynistic rubbish.
Yes, because 16 is the magic age to formulate concrete opinions about things.
I also don't see how Family Guy is misogynistic - you realize Lois is probably the strongest character whereas Peter and Chris and Quagmire are pretty discpicable?
It's bland and offensive, it should have never been created in the first place.
So I can safely assume you also hate South Park whose pilot episode was about an anal probe?
Lots of thigns are offensive. People think Glee and Modern Family are offensive. It's all about personal taste.
Took the words out of my mouth.
To add to that, my parents wonder how in the world they got Family Guy approved for television. We preferred The Simpsons over it, and even then Mom has always despised The Simpsons and eventually banned it from the house after so many years of tolerating it (which was fine with me, I got bored with the show when they stopped showing new episodes for a while).
Besides, even if they take off Family Guy, there's going to be another show to replace it that'll be even worse, it never fails.
The Simpsons is actually a fairly tame show, especially when you compare it to Family Guy or South Park.
That's a great thing. To be honest, I find the quality of all episodes to be around the same. On top of that, I find the quality of all of Seth McFarlane's show to be around the same. They're all poor! How do people like this sh*t to begin with?
The quality of all episodes really isn't the same. The earlier seasons of Family Guy were good and actually had good jokes. But it has gotten worse as of late. But to say that all the episode are the same quality neglects the fact that the show has restaffed about 3 times. It's also the same thing for all of his shows, which have completely different staffs of writers and whatnot.
I think this show along with american dad and south park cleveland show ect. Should all end already I mean when we were younger We'd think these shows were funny nowadays there not LOL anymore its because we now realize the stupidity of these shows but I do agree family guy has reached its climax.
It has nothing to do with us or our age. It can be our personal taste in entertainment. But the most realistic culprit is the quality of the writing. I still find early episodes of Family Guy to be funny, but some of the newer ones just don't even offer anything to be remembered.
It should've ended on the day the made it.
Why?
That doesn't mean that they shouldn't try to be funny. Making a dead baby joke is usually tasteless, but if it's pulled off correctly it can be worth a lollercoaster.
Ever hear of suspension of disbelief? You used it right there to justify Family Guy's bullsh!ttery, but now they've just gone too far with the anti-lolz. The Simpsons is no saint either, but South Park is actually pretty funny if you get past the fact that the later series looks rather ugly. The cardboardy feel had a lovely charm to it, no?
Lol. You realize South Park just put out shows where Kyle was sown to a Japanese guy's *** and one where Stan literally saw everything as ****?
