To some people, nosebleeds in anime are fanservice. (Probably not the gorn folks, but judging from how Karin--or Chibi Vampire if you want to call it that--handled nosebleeds from a girl, I think it's a type of fanservice.)

It's the idea of it that's fanservice.

I mean watching a girl being turned on well...turns you on. At least that's how I see it.

Granted nosebleed isn't really the best way to show that...so maybe that's not the best explanation.

The thing is, though Karin of Karin/Chibi Vampire is a vampire who produces too much blood that it has to be expelled somehow if she doesn't bite someone immediately. And so when she has a nosebleed, it's done in a flashy, bloody way.

Actually, that looks more like an advertisement for P&G's maxipads. Just put "Happy period" in white letters in that picture, and it's perfect. *SHOT*

I don't mind a bit of fan service every now and then when it's done properly, but after toloveru/darkness, I don't think I can take a full on ecchi series. While part 1 was basically random fan service with no plot whatsoever, and darkness is borderline hentai with a lousy plot that's hardly mentioned, I don't necessarily hate them or consider them terrible, though I don't consider them to be of quality either because of said reasons. The reason I don't hate them is because I actually do enjoy the fanservice from time to time, but sometimes it's just too much.

I had more, but I'll stop here for now because I'm not even completely sure what my point is anymore. Hopefully someone else gets it.

Getting attention through 'fan service' is everywhere nowadays, not only in anime and manga. Whenever I was watching anime or manga, when i was younger, my mom used to ask me if i was watching a 'good one' which explicitly meant whether or not it was perverted. Worst part is that she was judging something based on a couple of examples. Any Action (the second matrix movie for example) movie nowadays has just as much fan service if not more than a ton of anime/manga. But if i had watched one of those she wouldn't have judged at all. I can't even begin to tell you how many series I had to stop in the middle of because of the, how do i say this tactfully?, overuse of 'fan service'. Do you know why they do at risk of destroying a perfectly good plot? Because sex sells, and our culture has become 'overly saturated' in it.

Fanservice is fan-service. We all know why it exist and we all know why is it so omnipresent in today's anime. Fan-service really have no value and can really only make anime worse. It is usually in there for the sake of compensation. Any time wasted on it can be better served for other things such as story or character.

Admittedly, I do like me some fan-service but it does have a time and place. Also admittedly I enjoy being immerse in stories without having pandering shoved down my throat. A little is nice often its presence is always a bit of hassle.

    deathseer Oh, u mad bro?

I still do enjoy Freezing in spite of its ridiculous fanservice, as most of the ridiculous stuff happened in the very beginnings of the series (Groping, full nudity) and any ecchi stuff the happens now is the occasional shredded clothing during battle which is usually soon followed by limbs being cut off or decapitation, or bifurcation, making the scene more brutal having it not just be about titillation. So its not as bad as it was at the start, although I have to admit, had it continued at that level, I probably would have dropped the series.

I guess I am one of those people that accepts fanservice in moderation. I'm okay with the occasional beach episode or girls in a hot springs scene or anything like that. But if that's all a series becomes, it usually is followed by me dropping the series, since you might as well be reading porn at that point and I like substance with the females I read about.
