What are some of your favorite artwork from episodes? I really like the artwork from ''There's No Place Like Hoenn'' and ''Vanity Affair''.

Any episode that was directed by Tokuda gets my vote. One of the only guys who worked on AG that could utilise some nicely stylised art, and definatly one of the better animation directors. It sucks ass that he's been AWOL since the first part of the GK episodes.

I also thought a large majority of early and mid-kanto had some nice looking art also. Most notably those produced by Tamagawa ie. The Flame Pokémon-athon, Bye Bye Butterfree, Ash Catches a Pokémon etc.
There's also the stuff by Iwane (Volcanic Panic) and Izumi (Holy Matrimony). The latter of which, imo, did a much better job back in the day. Compare Holy Matrimony to The Battle arena ep for example, and you'll see what I mean.

I agree with Gravy on all counts. I loved all that old mid-Kanto animation - it was so stylized and fun to watch. And in contrast to the episodes like the "The Flame Pokémon-athon" or "The Song of Jigglypuff", we had the equally stylized but entirely different animation of such episodes as "Sparks Fly For Magnemite" and "Ditto's Mysterious Mansion".

With the exception of a few exquisitely animated episodes like the Hiwamaki gym battle episode or the Battle Dome ep, I find the majority of the AG animation to be extremely bland and not very interesting at all.

Practically said everything I was about to say.

I loved the hand-done cell animations in early and mid Kanto, I personally found them more interesting than the computer generated animation we have in AG. Personally, aside from a few episodes (particularly the first ones, for some reason) and the movies, the AG animation just bores me. As Heracross said, the early Kanto animation seemed to be, in my opinion, more stylish than the animation created for AG.

I liked the artwork in some of the Orange Islands & Jotho eps such as The Stun Spore Detour & Don't Touch That Dile.
