Favorite Dragon Masters

Back when Tigers used to smoke.
"Dragon Masters", "Dragon Tamers", "Dragon Trainers, they are all Dragon-themed trainers who have teams full of dragon-themed Pokemon. Key-word, Dragon-themed Pokemon such as Gyarados or Tyranitar among actual Dragon-types like Dragonite or Haxorus. They are favorites among the Pokemon series and are among some of the hardest trainers to fight. So what's your favorite Dragon Master?

I'll start with my favorite. Iris, the Pokemon Champion and Gym Leader of Opelucid city! In the games, Iris serves as the Pokemon Gym Leader in BW1 and the Pokemon Champion in BW2. I especially loved her role in BW2 where she had the most unique dragon-themed team out of all the Dragon Master trainers. Too many Dragon Master trainers utilized Gyarados or Winged Dragon-like Pokemon such as Charizard or Aerodactyl. Iris's team in BW2 consist of Hydreigon, Haxorus, Druddigon, Lapras, Archeops and Aggron, an entirely new dragon-themed team with more unique type coverage.

In the Pokemon Adventures manga, Iris is one of Black's rivals and enters the Pokemon League with her Fraxure who later evolves into Haxorus. I find it funny how Black and Iris have similar energetic personalities and love for battles, Iris teasing Black at one time and I enjoyed Iris's father-daughter relationship with Drayden. In the anime, I'm still pretty early but so far Iris does have a lot of good chemistry with Ash and her interactions with her Pokemon are pretty funny. Still haven't seen enough episodes to judge though.

I've always liked Clair, both in the games and the anime (haven't read the Pokemon Adventures manga yet). In the games, she is arrogant, but I didn't mind her temper tantrum at all, but she's a nice lady in the anime. I do wish her rematch team in HeartGold/SoulSilver was better, though - she still uses a Dragonair, despite the fact she could have raised a Flygon (since Garchomp is already on Lance's team).
I quite like Iris (she was a missed opportunity in the anime, though) and Drasna as well.

Lance, the one and only. I guess Clair is worth mentioning, but she's not to the same level as Lance.

Personally, I like Clair the most. Her arrogance is appealing and I find Kingdra to be more unique as a signature Pokémon choice compared to Dragonite.

Kingdra was also one of the most difficult Pokémon to obtain back in the day.

Lance. Of all of them, he gave me the most challenge and he has a great design

I say Drake. He has such a perfect name for a Dragon-type trainer, looks cool and was a pretty good challenge for me.
Is it weird I find it weird the sailor is the one using Dragon types and not Water types?

Interesting fact about Drayden. There are a very few Pokemon fans who know this one fact about Drayden and even fewer have lived to tell the tale that this is not a myth.

Of course for certain Pokemon fans, since Drayden's mouth only appeared in Pokemon Adventures, it isn't canon in the Pokemon games.

Drayden does not need a mouth to eat, he simply wills his body to not need food

Count me in as a Lance fan too. Really liked battling him in R/B/Y and in G/S/C and enjoyed helping him out against Team Rocket in the latter set of games (minus Gold at the time though, looking forward to rectify that as I get further along in my VC playthrough of it ;)).

Iris. But honorary mentions to clair and lance. Also that with the mega salamence that was in the omega ruby and alpha sapphire games.

Zinnia? She counts as a dragon master, right?

Yes. She is obviously a dragon master, wielder of the Mega Salamence. Surprised you asked. Although personally I think Zinnia or Diantha would be perfect to have Goodra as their ace Pokemon rather than some Gen 3 oldies.

Iris because she wasn't stoic or arrogant unlike some of the other Dragon-type specialists, namely Ibuki (Clair). My second vote would be Dracaena (Drasna) for similar reasons, and because she seemed really sweet in general.
