The seventh generation brought a huge shake-up to the traditional gym circuit, replacing the long-standing Gym Leaders with Island Trial Captains. That's not to say they can't be as good or aren't as memorable as their previous counterparts.

So who are your favourite Alola Trial Captains? These are mine:

  1. Lana - I love her design and her specialism in Water types. I also think she's pretty cute. :)
  2. Kiawe - He loves to dance with a lit tree branch, and have his dances photobombed by his Hiker friend David.
  3. Mallow - Like her, I also love food. I prefer eating it than cooking it, though. :D
  4. Mina - She strikes the most similarities with me as I'm also an artist and love drawing for hours on end.

I liked Acerola the best - she actually had a pretty decent backstory, her trial was one of the most interesting and she was the only trial captain to earn a place in the Elite Four, where her team was pretty cool.

Character wise Kiawe was probably my favorite. The scene with him at the Megamart was pretty unique and made him stand out the most to me. I didn't really like his Trial that much however.
I also liked Acerola a lot, but that's mostly because of her interactions with Nanu, and he was my favorite character introduced in SM period.
Purely from a design perspective I would probably have to go with Mallow though.

I love Mallow's design as well.

Also picked Kiawe since I like his character and I found his trial enjoyable.

I personally like Acerola, dunno why but she's just adorable to me. She may have a dark, ghost themed visual style but, man, does she have a bright and colorful personality!

Hmm, either Kiawe, Mina, or Acerola. Kiawe just seems like a cool guy (no pun intended), Mina is more expressive in USUM and she actually gets a trial so she's not labeled as lazy as she was in SM. Acerola, like many have stated, just has a lot of personality as well as an interesting backstory with her family being descendants of Alolan royalty. I wonder if that means Nanu is royalty as well or if he's married into the family. I love their dynamic XD

A tie between Mallow, Mina and Acerola actually. I like Mallow's design and her outgoing personality. Mina just because she is a Fairy-type specialist and Acerola because she looks cute and her calling Nanu 'uncle' seems to be a bit cute too.

Lana was the one I voted for, since she is the first new notable female Water-type user since Misty. Also, Lana has a design that's more fitting for a Water specialist than Misty does, no offense to Misty fans by the way.

Acerola, Mallow and Kiawe come close, since they also have designs fitting for their type. Acerola also happens to be my fave of the Alolan Elite Four, likely because she doesn't rely on annoying strategies as much.

Nanu isn't really Acerola's uncle though. It just seems to be a thing in Hawaii to call loved ones "auntie" or "uncle" even if they're not necessarily related. It even says this in the official Sun & Moon strategy guide.

Acerola mainly for her personality and how different her Trial is. I like how GF finally showed the Gastly line as mischievous inside an abandoned store. We knew that Gastly, Haunter, And Gengar love pulling pranks and playing games from the anime but the games never really touched the idea until SM. Plus the room Totem Mimikyu was found in was pure genius to include pictures and drawings of Pikachu. I also liked how the Poké Finder played an important role in the trial. Acerola was also fun to battle at the League.

Acerola, she's the one who had the most personality and importance to the story. She helped the player and Lillie various times, had a brilliant connection to the best Kahuna Nanu, and even went on to become the youngest Elite Four member ever!
Plus her Trial was fun too, though annoying how my 3DS always seems to need charging when I get to that point so I have to pause. Can't do that moving around while plugged in.

Kiawe and Mallow would be tied for second.

Is Acerola still in the E4 in US/UM?

Yes. The E4 is still mostly the same. Only differences are that Molayne replaces Hala, Kahili uses a Hawlucha instead of Skarmory, and the challenger you face during your first run through and the ones to challenge your title afterwards.

Kahili also replaces her Crobat with Braviary.

Other team changes are Olivia replacing three of her Pokemon (Relicanth, Golem, Carbink) with the Hoenn fossils and Gigalith.

Acerola's team is identical to S/M except for a Banette replacing her Sableye.

Acerola. She had the best trial imo, had most personality, and I like Ghost types.

Everybody seems to be saying Acerola. I think I have a newfound appreciation for her now.
