When was the last time that Pikachu lost (excluding draws)? I'm sure he'll lose lopsidedly this time...

If I'm remembering right the last time Pikachu lost was back when Hapu attacked Ash and Pikachu with her Golurk because she thought they were thieves stealing her crops, and she wound up actually beating Pikachu with her Golurk during that small battle they had there, however when they did the official Grand Trial as you already know Ash wound up beating Hapu at that point, although she didn't use her Golurk in that particular battle.

So that's how many episodes until this one? That's a long undefeated streak... He'll surely lose, except if the battle is interrupted or Pikachu pass out...

They're clearly setting something up for galar though. Why else have eternatus show up so early? Why have leon show up this early? They could easily have ash travel to galar to face the gyms and have the episodes in between take place in other regions. Otherwise what is ash gonna do? Take part in random tournaments that mean nothing? We're not even sure if a world tournament is gonna be at the end of this saga. For all we know ash might make his way through the galar gyms, win the galar league and then lose to leon before continuing his journey into the gen 9 saga

Honestly, I wouldn't use Eternatus early appearance as proof that they have plans for it. After all, it wouldn't be the first Legendary Pokemon that has an early cameo in the anime, but it only appear one or two episodes after that (and they may not even be related to a main conflict).

Leon is likely part of Ash's goal. However, that doesn't mean Galar Gym, especially as Leon is World Tournament Champion (that seems to be superior to Gym League Champion).

Also, the profile of Ash for this season says he wants to be the best at battling (after an encounter). It has been established that World Tournament Champion is considered the best in battles.

I doubt he endorse anyone.

Go is not a battler, so it makes zero sense for Leon to endorse him and Ash's goal is likely going to reflect the theme of the series (which is basically a world tour), which IMO means no Galar League Challenge.
I agree.

Not thinking twice!
Uh....yeah.

It is world tour series and they introduced a world tournament and made a big deal out of it. Ash’s goal should reflect what is the main theme of the series.
Now the question is: What will ash do to qualify for the world Championships

I'm sorry? Which part of the episode even slightly hinted at Ash participating in this vaguely defined World Cup? The tournament was hyped as roughly as any other major tournament in this anime because a tourney is something you get hyped about, especially if strong trainers are participating. Furthermore:

1. Doesn't Ash get the Dynamax band in the next episode?
2. Isn't Galar the region full of Dynamax power spots?
3. Aren't these stadiums built specifically over these power spots in Galar region?
4. Doesn't every anime series feature Ash fighting gym leaders and doesn't this anime always promote the new regional mechanic? In this case, one which is uniquely tied to the Galar region and doesn't exist elsewhere.

Don't the aforementioned aspects make a Galar gym challenge more plausible? How would a world tournament style competition even work? Doesn't it make more sense if Ash's primary goal in this series is tied to Galar considering he's gaining access to the Dynamax band and the Dynamax phenomenon?

You guys seriously need to lower your expectations. You're talking about Ash doing the world cup as if it's something that's already been confirmed, which is a dangerous attitude to have with these kinds of writers.

I think that Ash's goal this time around should focus on all eight regions rather than just one.

So much this. People are expecting too much from the anime after it breaks a few longtime patterns

They would basically have to get rid of everything unique about this series and revert back to the tired old traveling formula. The Galar Gym challenge is completely unfitting for a world tour saga.

No they don't; they're obviously going to treat it similarly to the Alola Island Trial challenge where Ash randomly goes to Galar 8 different times to challenge a gym, which does fit what they're doing this series since they are randomly going to all the different regions.

Yes and there seems to be a pattern that they get to spend two episodes in Galar so Ash can easily finish a gym battle in two episodes with one episode that focuses on Ash meeting the gym leader and then the episode after that the actual battle. Plus because they are constantly going to different regions they easily just show up in the city that has a gym.

There's honestly no reason for Ash to not DO the gym badge quest.

People might think its overdone, or as Champion Ash has better things to do.

Couple of things:

1. It's still battling, and would be a great way for Ash to train his Pokemon at the very least.

2. Tobias. Tobias steamrolled through the gyms with JUST Darkrai (perhaps even more impressive than Alain's Mega Charizard X, hard to tell though). If Tobias was perhaps on Kukui's level or end of Ash Alolan champion level, or potentially even higher than that (which I believe he would've had to be), it didn't stop him from going through the gyms and the Pokemon league in the Sinnoh region.

There would be literally NO reason not to have Ash do gyms, unless Go decides to do them, and Ash is entering something a lot more difficult than merely battling gym leaders and collecting badges.

3. Perhaps even Leon himself wants Ash to go through the gyms in Galar. Could Ash really deny the world champion in a way that would make any sense if it leads to Ash rematching Leon?

This especially, as they are region hopping, they don't need to spend a majority of the series in Galar for Ash's gyms, he could easily go where Sakuragi wants them to be, and when Sakuragi doesn't have anything more for Ash to do or even Go, they can go to the next place where Ash gets a badge and then Sakuragi needs them to go to Kalos for example.

As long as the Galar Leaders use their strong teams against Ash rather than their weak ones, it'd be fine.

It wouldn't make any sense to have all the important events take place in one region. They might as well have just created a completely Galar-centric anime if that's what they're going to do.

But it makes sense that ash would just aimlessly travel through the 8 regions before randomly entering a world tournament he's not qualified for? Ash will most likely want to battle leon again and the best way to do that would be to go through the galar league since the winner gets a shot at leon.

Leon himself will likely compete in the World Tournament so Ash will battle him either way.
