Female Jirarudan Mk 2 and Lawgia

About a month or so ago, I put a pic up here of a female version of Lawrence III/Jirarudan. Based on the critique I garnered from this, I made another attempt to draw a better version, so here she is-Female Jirarudan Mk 2.

I know my shading needs a lot of work-practice makes perfect as they say, and I've been lazy in my art since leaving school so have forgotten how to effectively shade. Other problems i have noted are in the info in the box below the pic. Here's the link.

Additionally, I was just messing about with ideas for a Jiri/Lugia fusion that I called "Lawgia" (from his English name and Lugia). The results are shown in the link below.

The left-hand figure was originally meant to have Jiri's hair, but I soon saw it wouldn't work, so I have essentially ended up with a Lugia in Jiri's clothes. I am much more happy with the right hand figure, which turned out better than I thought it would.

Now I just need to learn to shade...

Constructive comments welcomed please-I strive to improve.

Thank you all.

Hmmm... It's better than the one before, but you should still improve yourself.
You should have more courage to edit Jirarudan's clothes, using it in whole makes the feeling that you don't take this seriously  and by this I mean especially that Luigia fusion.... They are kinda plain, but it would be obvious that I'd figure out that kind of stuff you made too, if I'd have to make Lugia//Jirarudan mix xDD

I don't say anything about the shading, because you seem to know very well... yourself... what should be done.

I once tried editing the colours of the clothes, same colour scheme but sorta switched aeound.

It was hideous. Look. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/32057069/

Since then I've been rather leery of making changes...I was even uncertain about giving the female Jiri a 2-piece instead of a dress modelled on his outfit, though I'm glad I did.

Perhaps putting the fusion in a sleeveless version might work...or with flared sleeves. I might get more adventurous with the fusion later, as the face makes it obvious who it is. As yet, this is the only pic I have done of Lawgia, so I shall have to work on some more, and then I will probably experiment.

These pics are sorta average. Like you said, try working on your shading. The only pic I see that is above average is Lawgia.

I don't know how to tell you these.. but these are far from good..

Well...they're good for *me*, they're an improvement on what i usually do. I do hope to learn and improve, however, as I said.

Could you tell me anything that is *specifically* wrong, thus making your criticism truely constructive> anything that particularly stands out?

Don't take it to heart, and if you're offended by this, I never forced you to view this picture.

I'm not at all offended, but others might be. I disagree that you "never forced me to view this picture."

How could I miss it, when the image itself is placed 1) in the middle of your post and 2) is the image, and not just a link to the image. How could I read your post (and the one below it) WITHOUT seeing the picture? had you placed a link to the image, you would be correct in your statement, as clicking the link would have been my choice, but not when you place the image in the middle of the link.

However, let's get back on topic.

Munchlaxboy: Thank you for your kind words regarding Lawgia. I know that the female Jiri is not particularly up to scrastch but i'm new to shading. She was difficult to draw, trying to change her face and figure from male to female without losing that essential "Jiri-ness" so she still looks like her male counterpart.

Thanks for your comments!

The first one looks more like a boy than a girl.

Again???

That's the problem with gender-alteration of characters...you've still got to make them look like the character but either masculinise or feminise them (depending on whether you're going man-to-woman or woman-to-man.)

The problem is that Jiri's appearence IS very masculine, unlike some of the episode male characters who are sometimes very pretty boys. He has a very blunt square jaw, and strong jawline and distinctive mouth. Trying to feminise these but still make the character recognisable as a female analogue is so difficult!

I've narrowed the jaw down, slimmed her, tried to make her breasts more obvious, tried to shadow under them and given her slim legs, but still she looks male? Any suggestions for me to take back to the drawing board, anyone??? Thanks all!
