Feraligatr?

SUBRICK

Hypnotize...
Is that his real name? I've always thought it was "Feraligator" and was only like that because there wasn't space for his name in the g/s versions. I think Feraligatr doesn't make much sense, and prolly confused much kiddos in the pronounciation.

I think it was originally intended to be "Feraligator" but due to space they took off the "o." It still makes sense though.

The same reason Gyarados's name is Gyarados. Nintendo planned it to be Skullkraken, IIRC, but it was a letter too long. I suppose Nintendo was afraid of mispelling words back then, so they just changed its anme entirely rather than removing an l or the e. Shame, I quite like that name =/

But yeah, Feraligatr was just a bit too long. Phonetically, it makes some sense, which is why Nintendo made that decision, I suppose.

EDIT: Come to think of it, that's probably what happened with Victreebel. Weepinbell and Bellsprout both have two l's, but Victreebel's name was too long, so they must have had to remove the second l.

I didn't know that about Gyarados. Skullkraken is an awesome name, and they could've just made it Skulkraken.

Yeah...it's not like anyone would care that there's a missing "l".

I'm okay with them shortening longer names, as long as it doesn't look stupid. "Feraligatr" fits as it can easily be spoken in that way, and no important letters are messed with.

Nintendo didn't have enough space for the "o" so it's name became Feraligatr and I've spelled it that way ever since.Seriosly though they should have called Gyrados Skulkraken/skullkrakn, if they did his name would fit his infinite coolness look.

Skullkraken was a prototype name, like Koffing and Weezing were LA and NY, and others went through some changes.
Skullkraken would have worked though. I can't imagine Pokemon called LA and NY (btw, is that a reference to Los Angeles and New York, or something completely different? </idiot>).

Erm, by 'prototype names', I'm thinking Latios means kinda of like the Nintendo Revolution and Project Dolphin(for the GameCube). Just something to refer to until the design is finished.

Unless I've completely missed my guess, in which case, I apologize for making assumptions D=

I never noticed this, why are named always 10 letters or less???

Wow, Gyarados was gonna be called Skullkraken?

Meh. Another example of prototype names are the Kanto fossil Pokemon.

Kabuto:Att
Kabutops:Lantis

Aerodactyl:ptera

I can understand why they didn't give them these names -.-
