Gengar has a more varied moveset available and is pretty powerful so probably it.

Hitmonchan...It can llearn fire/ice/thunder punch... so his weakness are reduced to one ( Psychic ), gengar has got variety of movesets but it's got Psychic, Ghost as weakness!

Gengar is much more useful. It may have more weaknesses, but its movepool will help it cover them.

and gengar can learn ghosts moves so by your logic that means that gengar has no weaknesses....... seeing as you're saying that because hitmonchan learns the punches it apperently cancels its flying weaknesses

Haha, Hitmonchan has crap for Sp Att so the punches are no good for it. If you want an Elemental Puncher try Alakazam.

Back on topic, yeah, just go for Gengar but it depends on if you want a physical or special Gengar that will determine it's movesets...unless you have a mixer.
