How do I convert MPEG-4 to Mp3, Or Avi to Mp3?

It would be great if it did not cost any thing.

There are probably many ways of going about this, but the way I would do it is open the video file in VirtualDubMod and extract the sound to a .WAV file by going to Streams-->Stream List. Then I would convert the WAV file to an MP3 with another program such as Foobar2000. However, this is definitely not the most convenient way, and may be more trouble than it's worth.
