The Calm Lands' Scar is the answer
The first summoner to beat Sin in the Calm Lands was Lord Ohalland and I think his soul was in the Scar, his Final Aeon was PENANCE.

When you beat all the Dark Aeons a cut scenne appears, Penance going up from the Scar in Calm Lands and that's where my theory came from

Nevermind, if he was the first to beat him, he probably would be in the scar.

There is the women near a claw in north of Calm Lands who explains the story
She talks about the land in Calm Lands being unabitated by people and Lord Ohalland knowing that but I don't remember if it was Lord Ohalland, Lady Yocun or Lord Mi'ihen
By this way we finish conclusing that one of this three is unclean or created an armour like YuYevon and Sin that weapon was Penance and his name came from Tidus and Co. being ''trators''.

International version was never sold in US, iirc. I have a copy of the international version, it in Japanese. The logo looks extremely similar, if not the same, except for the massive words "International" plugged somewhere alongside it. Basically an omake Japanese release.

I played 3 times.
First game:uber Hard
Second: hard
third: CAKE! I had decided to overtrain Kimahri( looking for poison fangs). With the boosted attack, and Tidus' Poison Strike( poison fangs) and Yuna's grandsummon...killed it so fast
