May 8, 2006 - At Square Enix's press conference at E3 in Los Angeles, the company officially announced Final Fantasy XIII for the PlayStation 3. Square Enix then proceeded to show a trailer from the game, in which a female protagonist is seen flying around a city. Video shown in the trailer was entirely realtime except for a short sequence of rendered footage showing a train -- our "Away Team" who saw the trailer said it looked "incredible", and will be reporting back further details after the SCE conference today at 4PM PST.

The game is being created by the same team behind Final Fantasy X. The game runs on the "White Engine", an all-new exclusive next-gen engine built for Square Enix's future games. It was originally planned for the PlayStation 2 but was later moved to the PS3. This game is part of the three-part saga, Fabula Nova Crystallis FF XIII, which also includes a cellphone prequel RPG and another PS3 title called FF Versus XIII, an action game by the makers of Kingdom Hearts.

We'll have more details on this shortly.

May 8, 2006 - Square Enix had only just officially announced Final Fantasy XIII at its E3 2006 press conference, but that didn't stop the company from announcing its sequel. Final Fantasy Versus XIII is being created by the team behind Kingdom Hearts 2 and will be an "extreme action game" that serves as the direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII and will appear on the PS3. The trailer for the game was done by the team that put together Advent Children.

We'll have more info on this very curious game shortly.

The trailer for FFXIII was great, of course no Final Fantasy will ever beet VII though
Psh, in your opinion.

Anyway, this game is one of the only games in E3 that appeal to me...and what also makes me go, O_O, they're making 3 different games with 3 different stories.

Square Enix said:

One myth, countless stories
FINAL FANTASY XIII

The New Tale of the Crystal
Like the light that shines through the Crystal,
the universe shines with multi-colored content.

So, Versus is NOT a direct sequal to XIII. It's telling a different story and so is Agito.

Anyway, I might get this game, since it seems interesting...with the gameplay footage in the main FFXIII game. o_O Most likely, Versus would be my first target, because I'm very curious what the KH team would do for it and...to tide over until they make the 4th installment to KH. heh heh.

EDIT:: Here's Square's Press Confrence for this...I mean...these games.

Hmm....Final Fantasy XIII looks like a whole new RPG game (O.O), but the story in it so far looks cliched.

How many times have we seen a heroine who can do stunts overthrowing a facist empire? (T_T)
Go on. Tell me. I won't bite. (TvT)

Cliche? Peh. Whatever. Everything's cliche if that was the rule of the world, since every plot idea has been used at least twice. <<
