Firefox 'Download' Issue

XP I'm gonna kick myself if this is a repeated topic.

I'm an avid multitasker and often have two or three Firefox windows open, along with a word processor, a few chat windows, and my internet connection window. Because I'm on dial-up, when browsing a site I'll simply click on a link and then Alt+Tab to another window to preoccupy myself while the page loads.

Unfortunately, I've found that about 80% of the time when I click on a link and then Alt+Tab, instead of taking me to the next page Firefox pulls up the 'Download' pane and downloads a copy of the page I was trying to reach to my desktop. It's highly annoying, because I then have to close out the damned pane, re-click the desired link, and wait for the page to actually change before I can continue on my business.

Why does it do this, and how can I stop it?

You mean everytime you press the ALT+TAB to switch window, the download pane pops up and downloads the page instead of Opening it?

ok...

I've looked at the shortcuts in Firefox, and I guess you're falling on the "Alt + Left Click" Shortcut, which saves the page.

Because you are using dial-up + the amount of programs running on your computer, it may take a while for the browser to respond to the click/command you gave it. (Well, that's what I think : P)

My Advice is to click on the link, then wait for a few seconds, then switch, or you can try clicking it, then move your mouse away, and then do it. Other way, switch Windows using your mouse instead.

*Oh yeah one more thing, why don't you use "New Tabs" from the File Pulldown menu, instead of opening up 3 Firefoxes... ¬_¬;

Thanks for the advice, it makes enough sense. >>;
:/ And I don't use the tabs because I don't like them. Overall the tabs are more of an inconvenience than anything to me. They make my computer run slower (for reasons I cannot explain), they're slightly confusing, and I'm not particularly adept with them. Besides, I'm a creature of habit, and multiple windows in a very deep-rooted habit of mine. No sense learning another keyboard shortcut (or worse, using my mouse more than absolutely needed), when my system works well enough aside from a few minor kinks.
