[FireRed] Weak against ICE-type !

Member
HI,
This is my FireRed team. I very like this team but the problem is:
They are ALL weak to ICE and WATER type (unable to beat the first Elite 4) except Kadabra (but defense is weak). So, I need help in order to be able to beat ICE/WATER type (or at least the first Elite 4):

Nidoqueen @ Leftovers
Ability: Poison Point
------------------
- Strength
- Superpower
- Toxic
- Ice Beam

Aerodactyl @ Nothing
Ability: Pressure
-------------------
- Wing Attack
- Rock Slide
- Bite
- Supersonic

Rhydon @ Quick Claw
Ability: Rock Head
--------------------
- Stomp
- Horn Drill
- Double-Edge
- Rock Blast

Charizard @ Nothing
Ability: Blaze
-------------------
- Fly
- Blast Burn
- Flamethrower
- Steel Wing

Dragonair @ Leftovers
Ability: Shed Skin
--------------------
- Surf
- Dragon Rage
- Thunderbolt
- Thunder Wave

Kadabra @ Nothing (sorry, unable to evolve because I only have a DS)
Ability: Synchronize
---------------------
- Psychic
- Confusion
- Future Sight
- Recover

=======================

As you can see, I'm extremely weak against the first Elite 4. Any suggestions ?
Thanks !

OK. I would firstly recommend that you get rid of two out of three from nidoqueen, rhydon and aerodactyl because they basically do the same thing and are the same type, the main reason for the huge weak. I don't think that Dragonite fits into this team that great. Try Curselax instead. It isn't immune to water or ice but it's special defence is so good it may as well be.

Personally i'd keep your rhydon. Now i'd have some type coverage. Stick in a water type that knows ice beam, vaporeon is good in fire red. Also get Zapdos because he will take out the first two of the Elite Four and Kadabra will beat all of Agatha's team with Psychic. Ice Beam the dragons and use the appropriate pokemon against Gary.

So:

Zapdos@ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
Mild Nature (+SAtk - Def)

Thunderbolt
Light Screen
Thunder Wave
Drill Peck

Rhydon@ Leftovers
Trait: Rock Head
Adamant Nature (+Atk - SAtk)

Swords Dance
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Double Edge

Vaporeon@ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
Bold Nature (+Def - Atk)

Surf
Ice Beam
Wish
Toxic

Charizard@ Petaya Berry
Trait: Blaze
Modest Nature (+SAtk - Atk)

Substitute
Sunny Day
Flamethrower
Dragon Claw

Snorlax@ Leftovers
Trait: Thick Fat
Careful Nature (+SDef - SAtk)

Curse
Body Slam
Shadow Ball
Rest

Kadabra@ Lum Berry
Trait: Synchronize
Timid Nature (+Spd - Atk)

Psychic
Calm Mind
Fire Punch
Ice Punch

How's that? You now have only a 2x water weak as vaporeon and snorlax resist it. And the ice weak is nullified completely.

If you want to use Aerodactyl try:

Aerodactyl@ Choice Band
Trait: Rock Head
Adamant Nature (+Atk - SAtk)

Earthquake
Rock Slide
Wing Attack
Double Edge

Or:

Nidoqueen@ Choice Band
Trait: Poison Point
Adamant Nature (+Atk - SAtk)

Earthquake
Sludge Bomb
Superpower
Shadow Ball

I suggest that you use Rhydon though because he doesn't need a choice band as much as the other two which you probably don't have. You also have the right trait.

Suggestions in bold/italic. I prefer Shadow Ball over Rock Slide on 'Queen.

Thanks for all your suggestions!

But I have some n00bish questions:
- How can you have 3 or 4 Leftovers ? There's only 2 in the games
- How can I make my Charizard/Rhydon/Aerodactyl/Nidoqueen to know Earthquake like BattlePikeKing said? There's only one EQ TM ?

Again, sorry for my n00b questions but I'm new at 3rd generation and breeding and all that.
But thanks for your help !!!

Leftovers is just the standard item for raters, it can be replaced with another item based on the player's limitation. If you can trade to Emerald, you can get infinite Leftovers in the BF, I think.

Rhydon learns Earthquake naturally. Eh, the others can't get it through breeding which sucks. You can also get EQ through a high-level Pick Up, but I don't remember if thats in FR/LG or just Emerald....

Also, your questions weren't n00bish at all. D: Those are the standard problems for ingame teams....

Yeah that's why i suggested what i did, knowing that you only get one tm ingame, which is handy. Feel free to use Physical sweeping Zard if you like, i just like the special version

Swords Dance is the best ingame Charizard imo.
