NEVER EVER use paint colors. They just make it look plain horrible. Plus the shading doesn't match anyway. The colors clash and honestly the colors remind me of barf. You should read some Tutorials and you'll improve in notime

Pik-eeeooow!
If your new, that's no way to say why it's horrble, it looks like rainbowrific vomit on a poor little Umbreon. No shading, and u used default paint colors and doesn't look anything like a real sprite

how bot this

That one looks better, but you still used default colours and Rukario looks ALL messed up.

EDIT: I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, but I'm just basically trying to help.

My first recolor was a whole lot better than this. In fact, I mixed before I recolored. You need to follow the shading, and read a tutorial.

Practically poking fun at the sprite won't make him better will it? Your just beginning, so don't get too discouraged - many great spriters started off like this.

As for your question on what to use:
(In Paint)
Colours > Edit Colours > Define Custom Colours
You'll have a much varied choice of colours there. Or you could take the official colours off official sprites (you can do this by selecting the Pick Colour Option which is third option down on the first column).

I'm sure you can use the Stickied Tutorial Thread to find a recolouring thread as I know you'd prefer a visual aid as opposed to something text-based. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask. Just keep practicing.~

Okay, it's bad, try and use the same colours of different shades instead of 1 of many colours.
