First try at a sprite... comments please

Playing Colosseum I really liked the Female Chaser trainers, among others. This is my attempt at cobbling together one using exsisting sprites. As I really dont have the skill to try to draw one from scratch and wanted it to fit in to the style of the R/S games. Your helpful comments would be nice or just a "Hey that's neat." works too. :D

Body:Female Team Rocket-- sprite ripped by Sapphire_Dragon
Head:Shelly Team Aqua-- ripped by Swizzler121
Head Band Streamers: Martial Arts trainer (forgot what he's called) ripped by
Sapphire_Dragon
Hair: Free hand by me, color from Misty sprite--ripped by Sapphire_Dragon

I know it's not an exact copy of one but I really just worked on this for a couple of hours to get the feel of it. I also have planned to attempt the recolored Mt. Battle Female Chaser area boss. (forgot to get her name and area)

Others planed are the Male bodybuilders, Female Hunter, Female Rider (fullbody leather suit, rawr), the colored troopers, Cipher Peons M and F, Teacher, the Cooltrainers and Lady in a suit

It is good, but there is a large black patch by the ribbons on the hat. It looks odd. Also, you used too much black for the outline. Try diversifying the color choice to where the shades are. For example, black or dark outlines should be used primarily on the spots facing away from the light source, and the lighter shades for the outlines facing towards the light source. Finally, the hair on HER right side looks like a lump. I would flatten it out.

Nice though.

Thanks for the Black patch didn't see it. The outline was not really touched by me that much. I did use color shades one light red, one regular red and one darker red. They are a bit close but I will try a wider gap next time. I don't get what you mean by lump. It looks like it comes from under the bandana to me and it's suposse to look like she has a flat cut length of hair. Feel free to mess with it to show what you mean or offer a but option. Maybe it needs a part that wraps around the back and over the shoulder to get the look of her tilting her head up. Yeah that loos like it might help.

Samayowa

you amaze me.
That's really good for a first one. Good luck with spriting in the future.

Its...Okay, But I think it looks a litle slopy. I couldn`t have done better, but it does need some straightening.

That's why I'm asking for comments to help me get better at it. Plus I'm using a trackball to color with, not the best/most comfortable/natural thing to use but I don't have a pen & tablet (yet).

This is what I did:

Touched up the outlines, removed all the black outlines, and fixed the few points I mentioned before. This is my personal taste for doing a sprite, but to each their own....

It does look better that way. Guess I should of studied the sprite sheet a bit more. That is the way they are done on the games. The hair looks better with back part filled in and her left (our left, not her's) side taken in.

Thank you this is the type of help I was looking for. I guess a better proofing procedure is in order to catch the small things like hair and stray pixels.

Many thanks LannyZ4444.

You are most welcome, my friend. Keep up the spriting. I know you will become a great spriter. Now, try your hand at some more difficult challenges like pokemon fusing or a scratch sprite. Tougher experiences promote growth!

I know the offical colors. I started to color it as the game but, for some reason I liked the way this looked. I think I did a preety good job capturing the essence of the character. besides every trainer on that game wears boots.

I have a few ideas for pokemon fusing but I would like to get the COL trainers out first. One thing I want to do is finish the Eevee line with a Eon for all types.

In Colosseum, I thought their aoutfits were more maroon-y than red, but maybe that's just me. XD Also, I thought they had brown hair, different pants, and maroon boots.

Colors aside, this is a pretty good sprite. The "ribbon" things could use an outline, because they look like a completely different style than the rest of the sprite. Her belt is up too high, and is really thick. The pants, especially the right (our right) leg, need more shading.

Pretty good for a first attempt, but not without flaws.
