FMA Favorite Character?/General FMA Discussion

I think it'll be a good movie. Hopefully better than Shamballa anyway.

Way back when the original anime was all I'd seen I really liked Shamballa. It felt like a more proper ending to the series than what the anime ended with. Plus the fan-service was great. Al appearing in a suit of armor, Envy coming back, and that awesome flashback opening. All of those made me smile.

There were no enormous boobies in the movie. Agreed though, it wrapped up the series better.

It was just an okay movie for me. It just felt like another ending that didn't feel quite right. Animation was pretty awesome, the story was interesting, and of course I loved seeing my favorite characters again, when I first watched it I liked it. But after my character high wore off I realized even that movie, which was actually a pretty decent (still hate the ending though), couldn't compare to the original storyline.

This is why Trigun needs a reboot with Nimoy reprising his role in the dub. Some guy at a Super Smash Bros. tournament was so upset when I told him only Bosch was reprising his role for the movie (should have told him about the manga published by Dark Horse).

On topic...old actors vs. new actors, discuss.

Also something to discuss; old opening/credits vs new

Now there's something to talk about. The original had some great openings, Ready Steady Go! was the first traditional anime opening I had ever seen. Other anime like Pokémon, DBZ, Digimon, Hamtaro, Cardcaptors, Sailor Moon etc. all had their own Americanized intros so seeing FMA's Japanese opening was a very different experience. Plus the original FMA introduced me to my first Japaenese bands like L'Arc en Ciel and Porno Graffiti. Melissa was another great song but I don't remember seeing it too much on TV for some reason. Rewrite was goddamn amazing, dat intense chorus.
Looking back, the original series used a lot of anime opening cliches.

Brotherhood's openings were good, I liked Golden Time Lover, and Period. I felt Hologram was kinda meh. Again and Rain were definitely the stand outs though. Again was intense and nostalgic at the same time, while Rain was EMOTIONS.

Good damn Period was soooooooo good!

I just made another my fellow Canuck.

I was hoping you'd pick up on that. ;P

Yeah, I prefer Rain over Period. Period seems more typical shounen actiony adventurey opening. But Rain. Whoa boy. Like, I said emoooootions. Showing all the cast in the wet cold rain, all bloody and worn out? I friggin love it. It's like: HOLY CRAP THIS IS ALL FINALLY GOING TO BE OVER LET'S WATCH HOW THIS GOES DOWN. The characters are tired, exhausted, but still ready to pull through one last stretch and win. Bradley goddamn CRIES. Yeah. Just let that sink in. Single manly tear. Those drums in the beginning? Excellent. And it shows pretty much every damn character in the show. This was the opening FMA earned.

(Plus the band SID seems to have a thing with THINGS ARE FINALLY ENDING openings.)

I need to be in this conversation as FMA was my first serious anime and Brotherhood is my second favorite anime ever.

So Mimori is joining, si? and I get you weirdamanda...my name is Amanda too...I'm sure we've all heard that joke...

While I really enjoyed Shamballa when it's compared to the original series, it will not be difficult to be harder than the Shamballa movie.

For FMA? Not too many actor changes besides Eric Dismuke being swapped out for Maxey Whitehead, who've I've easily grown to love just as much.
It's Aaron not Eric.

But anyways, the several voice changes in the series that were major enough to notice...

Aaron Dismuke -> Maxey Whitehead = I absolutely love love Maxey's version of Alphonse. It's so unique and sounds very genuine. <3

Dameon Clarke -> J. Michael Tatum = Holy crap...when I heard that Scar's original voice actor wasn't coming back and Michael had gotten it, I was a little skeptical as he had only done his natural speaking voice in most of the series I had heard him in (Ouran, Mamotte! Lollipop, Black Blood Brothers, xxxHOLiC...etc.) but geez, J. Michael is AMAZING as the new Scar. A nice fresh voice for a new, redone, manga-based Scar seems good.

Josh Berry -> Jeremy Inman = Okay this probably seems pretty picky on me, but Breda's voice was epically amazing in the original....who's the new guy that seems so waterboard and unemotional? I just didn't like the new voice - it could've been a lot better.

Also something to discuss; old opening/credits vs new
omg...the music in Brotherhood is beautiful~ While the original series had great openings and endings, the only ones that stick with me today are the obvious ones Ready, Steady, GO! and Rewrite. However with Brotherhood....Shunkan Sentimental (4th ending), Again (1st opening), Hologram (2nd opening), Golden Time Lover (3rd opening), Period (4rd opening), and Let it Out (2nd ending)....all of these are f**king epic amazing time go! Shunkan Sentimental is easily the best song out of all of them in the series imo... it's also my current favorite anime song period. I think its the lovely, sexy guitar riff at the beginning.... <3 <3

ACK! How did I get that wrong?! >_<

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. While the song itself rocks, I felt it's intro broke any tension given by the ending of the episode it was in. It sounds a little to peppy in my opinion. For example check out the ending transition here...

Shunkan Sentimental the best of the Op/Ed music?!

Please……no……it is a tie for Again/Uso.

Also Rain and GOLDEN TIME LOVER were quite excellent.

thread seems bias.

and its my personal favorite, not the best musically or lyrically. Don't mis-read.

You said right there that you thought it was the best.

And hey, I gave legitimate reasons why I disliked the song. And reasons why I liked Rain, Uso, etc. more than Shunkan. But no, we're the biased ones for explaining our opinions.

(Still gonna download Shunkan right now though :p)

What a drama llama.
Oh yeah, Uso was really good. That style was fuggin' brilliant.

I really liked the change up for that ending, it kinda broke out of the usual FMA/FMAB dramatic fighting/standing in windy field/close up of enemies/close up of allies.

One of my favorite openings was the first one for FMAB http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFvtnQ2N4jA even if it has everything I just said this series usually uses.

Also, has anyone ever played any of the video games? I heard that they aren't that great, seeing as the series is more focused on people/relationships/logic than actual fighting.
