warn you striaght off, self inserted characters. Not of me but characters I have created.
Place in pokemon time: Before the birth of Mewtwo. This takes place in the game version of pokemon and not the anime.
Genre: Suspense, Tragedy and horror/gore
Rating: R
For: Blood, Gore, abuse, sexual content, and death
Suggestions: If you really don’t want me to go all out on the drama in this fic, which I want to do, then don’t read. I am NOT going to be light, I am not going to back off on it because you don’t like the way its going. This plot has been solid through role-playing and tweaking and I am NOT changing it because you have a weak heart for innocent things being poked and cut open. Note that I won’t go all out on some of the themes this fic will have either. Blood and gore is fine by and death but the sexual content will not be explored too much. I got my own morals after all.
Chapter index: note: some chapters may be split up so that they have two parts. Cuz I don’t want a lot of chapters but I do write a lot and so I may end up writing longer chapters in halves. Chapter one and two will be shorter then the rest.
Prologue: A dreamless sleep
Chapter one: Innocent
Chapter two: Brute
Chapter three: Broken
Chapter four: The spider and the fly
Chapter five: For the sake of science
Chapter six: Don’t fall asleep
Epilogue: Little Brother
It was an empty sleep they were in. It was empty and cold… their minds could only wander in this large open space of darkness as they searched for meaning of what they seek and to seek for the meaning. It was a complicated thought and yet perfectly understandable to a mind that had little to do but wander around its own existence.
Then there was a twitch, a jolt of awareness and out of two mines… one vanished. The other mind was confused and began to search the emptiness of its own self. It grew to a panic at the fact that its companion had gone missing. The mind raced for an answer and though it spoke not with words it still called out to the other hoping for a reply. But none came to it. And it was alone.
And the mind mourned.
End.
The sound of squeaky wheels echoed about the brightly lit hallway, the tile on the floor was a creamy white color while the coloring of the wall was just plain white, to go with this whiteness even more white tiles were on the ceiling with yet again white lights.
Walking down the long detail-less hallway was a young woman, barely twenty it seemed. She wore a soft blue uniform that looked much like what a surgeon would wear in a hospital. The pants were loose and almost too big while the shirt was tucked in neatly. The collar was a V shape and had semi long sleeves. But over this she wore a white lab coat that caused her to blend in with her surrounding white hall. This young woman was pushing the squeaky wheel cart and every step her eyes seemed to narrow more and a vein on her light blonde head would tick from the annoyance it caused her.
The cart was filled with different sized metal bowls, each having different sorts of pallets and vegetation. The cart had two levels as well, so it could hold twice as much bowls for its various creatures the cart was meant to bring such nutrition too. The woman hummed, her hazel eyes glancing about a bit as she ran one hand over her hair while the other steered the squeaky cart. Her foot steps grew with rhythm with the squeaking and the sound of the wheels rolling across the clean tile and closing her eyes she could almost find her way to the cells with out having to open them once. The rhythm was old to her, over done, tiring and she sorely missed the bright colored walls of her old lab, the one she use to work in with the dear professor who had journeyed here to this place with her.
Her mind began to wander on her home, the clean streets of cerulean city, the salt lake near by that blew in rich salty air. Her house just on the edge of town, her mother doing meaningless chores that she enjoyed to do and her sister preparing for her pokemon journey…
But this train of thought was broken as quick as an ekans sinks its fangs into its prey as sounds of quick moving feet came dashing down the halls of the overly clean and white mansion. The assistant gasped a little snapping her eyes open and turning her cart quickly to the side of the wall, rattling its contents and spilling some on the floor. She ignored this as she watched a few of the more important scientist, professors and doctors dash by like their life depended on it and then was followed by assistants and lesser intelligent people before they turned and darted into a room. She gasped once more as a loud child like wailing came within, it sounded high pitched and yet gurgling as if there was water down the throat. Shouts and orders were given before the sounds were muffled behind closed doors.
The blond haired assistant nearly started as she felt a hand clasp around her shoulder, her eyes turning to the source quickly and she was relieved as she stared up at a kind old man. In his mid sixties, his head balding but still held some thick white hairs. His once blue eyes seemed to have faded into gray while his sagging face gave a look of worry and wryness. He wore an outfit much like the assistants, only green and it seemed there was no gender specific clothing in these walls. His lab coat seemed almost too large for his thinning form and the woman knew that the last few years had been hard on him.
It had been hard on both of them.
“Rena.” The professor gasped, still trying to catch his breath and showing he was not a man of exercise.
“Yes Professor Palm?” she replied, the tone and look seeming to be memorized by her, showing she had said it many times before but never grew tired of listening and obeying. It was her duty to her employer and her friend, though the woman known as Rena often wondered if she should have become a pokemon trainer like her mother wanted.
“The main lab, the tank… awake… trouble. Come!” he barely was able to speak before he began to lead his assistant off into the room. She had never been within that room before; it was for high leveled scientist only. She only knew of one assistant who ever went in there… and he was mute. She watched intently as the good professor slid his card through the card slide and pressed in a code. The red light on the little panel switched off and with a din, the green enter light was on. A click… and the door into the main lab slid open.
Rena knew in most horror stories, a mad scientist would be bent over his creation that would be hidden under a blanket, in a dark and dirty room. With lightening flashing in the background and a hunched over assistant would speak out ‘maaaster’ and then the monster would awake, and turn on its creator.
But this was different, more real, more frightening. Several of the scientists, doctors and professors were hovering back and forth to a single metal table. The assistants that were able to enter for the first time in the room were huddled off watching in wonder and fear. The room was not dark nor did lightening flash in the window. No it was very white and very clean. No windows at all but bright white lights that shined down like an unforgiving sun in the desert. The men ordered the room to be cleared of assistants and those who were not allowed in here.
Rena turned to go before something caught her eye or more like her ear. A child like groan. Her eyes turned onto the table and she saw a long violet limb raise up, it was much like a tail, but it was thick and glowed as if it was wet or covered in some sort of goop. The ‘tail’ as Rena guessed started out thick then would thin out a little before it widened once more into a sort of bulb. She watched as it rose higher before came crashing down onto the table with a loud cry coming from the owner.
“OUT!” one of the doctor’s ordered pointing at Rena to leave, she stumbled a moment before turned to go before she was grabbed once more by her professor. She gave a questioning look towards him but he ignored it as he advanced closer to the table and nodded her to go over towards another. She saw clothes and towels resting on it with a tray of scalpels and other objects.
“I don’t want her in here.” The leading professor snapped at Palm as the older man walked over to the table.
“Bart isn’t here yet, you must have at least one assistant.” The professor Palm spoke calmly and with a slight authority though he knew speaking to knowingly would get him scolded by the leading scientist.
“Fine. You. Yes you. Put some towels and that tray on a cart and come over here” the leading professor snapped out his order and Rena quickly went to work preparing the cart from the corner and darting over. She noticed that only a few scientists remained and they were at computers or clipboards jotting down notes. The creature on the table had stilled, on soft whimpering and gurgling escaping it as the tail twitched here and a leg kicked a little. Rena could not help but think of something that had been hit in the head and was suffering from shock.
The lead scientist was a tall man and he looked very old, he walked tiredly and held shaky hands. His cold brown eyes stared with a numb look, showing he had been doing this for quite some time and while he was barely past forty five his work had aged him physically and mentally beyond any man’s wish. Rena wasn’t looking at the professor. She stared down at the pitiful creature lying on the table.
And she knew that everyone in this building was going to hell for what they were doing.
It breathed shallow breaths, its body covered in liquid, Rena could see that some of it had drained off and was slipping down into a drain on the floor. The body was thin, she could see the rib cage of the poor creature and watched as it took quick breathes as it tried to stabilize. Its upper body looked almost human, with small shoulders and two small breasts, but she knew it wasn’t human as it was covered in soft almost faded pink fur. Then its lower body did not resemble a human’s at all but sported large hips with rounded animal like feet, it would walk on two toes on each foot while a rounded third toe was higher up on its legs.
The thin frail arms were longer then what looked plausible for it and sported three round ended fingers. Its head was animal like, with a cat like snout and two slits on it for a nose with a gasping tooth filled mouth. Faded glazy blue eyes stared out almost as if it was dead and on top of its head were two stumps… no horns… ears? Rena was unsure as they were covered in the short velvety fur and yet seemed harder more protective of the head. The creature let out a soft moan from its mouth and its eyes closed hand moving a bit.
“… What… what… oh Lugia…” Rena whispered as she watched the creature. If it could stand now it would not be close to five feet tall. More like four five and would probably fall over. The woman reached out and pushed some of the strange violet hair that covered the creature’s head out of its eyes.
“Actually” the leading professor spoke up, “Not Lugia… Mew. Well, a clone of one. A failed one by the looks of it… but we will see.”
Rena withheld the horrified feeling she was getting, watching the tail thump a little and the head rise and thud against the table as the creature desperately tried to move. She turned pulling some of the towels off the cart and with a look of approving from the head professor began to clean the strange gooey substance from the clone’s body. It was a disgusting liquid, it would attach to the towel when damp enough and when she brought it back saw it stretch out in a snotty like manner and showing how resisting it would be.
The arm she was working on cleaning tugged away against the clone’s side. Rena scowled and attempted to retrieve it for cleaning and heard a whimper come from the poor creature which caused her to release the arm and stare at it.
“Is it in pain?” she asked.
“No, just drugged, it can’t focus.” The professor snapped as he began preparing a syringe and other items for testing. Rena winced a little, she was a lab assistant in studying pokemon in there environment. She and Palm had never been in an experimenting lab where they created… clones of creatures that are believed to just be legend.
After some time and the ‘mew’ was as clean as Rena could get it, she lay the last towel back onto the cart and stared down at the pitiful creature. She heard the leading Professor call it a Mewtwo but she thought that was a rather corny name for it. She turned ready to push the cart away when she heard the scientist speak.
“Take that there and test the nerves on its fingers and toes.” He ordered pointing at what looked to be a metal pencil with a sharp point. Rena’s face drained of color a little; she really did not want to do this. She was glad her real job here was just feeding and caring for the pokemon in the cells. She could never work harming anything living. If only she wasn’t such a wimp, she would decline then.
Rena picked up the tool and withheld a look she wanted to give. Slowly she took the hand of the creature and pulled it closer to herself before she tried to spread the three fingers apart. The hand was oddly rounded and the fingers seemed to be able to grip even though there wasn’t exactly a thumb. The assistant brought the sharp object against the clone’s finger and a small whine escaped it and it tugged on the hand a bit. Rena’s fingers shook as she watched what seemed to be a child almost try and escape pain. The head scientist had walked away by now and had gone over to a computer screen.
Rena had moved around now. Her eyes still wide and her fingers trembling as she continued to poke and prod the wet sleeping child before her. She had poked one hand and both feet by now, the Mewtwo had whimpered a bit and pulled its limbs in to try to avoid the pointy thing. Finally she was poking the last fingers when she heard it.
As she poked one of the fingers the clone pulled its hand in and a small very child like voice barely spoke out into all of the scientist’s minds.
'Ow.'
The assistant froze, dropping the item to the ground and it clank loudly. The head scientist and professor Palm turned their gazes to the girl.
“It-it spoke!” Rena pointed at the Mewtwo. “It said ow!” she announced seeming to be thrilled at this fact before and feelings of horror filled her. This thing had the ability of speech, it was intelligent and very much alive… and here she was poking it like it was something to dissect. She was reminded of the time she had to cut open a polliwag for a class she had been taking. She ended up gagging and throwing up before running out of the room. She loved pokemon, she loved studying pokemon. She did not like cutting them up.
“Yes, yes very good. Then it wasn’t a complete failure.” The head scientist grumbled as he fumbled around on the computer. Professor Palm blinked and looked over rather surprised.
“Failure, Gray? It looks very much alive and has speaking capabilities.” Palm replied as he looked over a list of data spilling out of the computer.
The head scientist, Professor Gray, looked up now from his own work. “Look at the read outs… what do you see?” he called over before taking a needle and quickly sticking it into the Mewtwo. Rena turned her face away, wincing at the small whine that escaped the creature. The head professor drew out the red liquid before placing it in another bottle and onto the tray. “Assistant, take this to forensics.” He motioned towards the tray.
Rena eyed the tray before eyeing the professor, she wanted to leave and yet she didn’t want to just leave this poor creature in their hands. She sighed knowing better then to disobey, she didn’t want to get herself in trouble which in turn would get Pr. Palm in trouble, and she was assigned to help him. Rena pulled off the rubber gloves and threw them into the trash before looking at the dozing creature on the table.
The pinkish pokemon whined a little the tail twitching before dozing off into an uneasy slumber. Rena sighed once more and took the tray heading for the door. As she exited the room one of the assistants passed her, she knew who he was. He was Pr. Grey’s right hand man, Bartholomew, mostly called Bart. He was an older man, probably near his thirties though looked to be in his mid twenties. He didn’t speak much; well actually he didn’t speak at all, being a mute. He had chestnut brown hair that was somewhat long and not often brushed with matching chestnut brown eyes.
He didn’t even give Rena a glance as he entered the room and was yelled at for being late by the head scientist. Rena shrugged it all off and tried to put this experience in the back of her mind as she headed off to get the samples tested.
It was a few hours later before Rena could go back to her duties. She ran her hand over the code pad quickly tapping the codes into the door and watching it slid open with its sci-fi movie worthy motion. The blonde stepped inside and heard the cries of the pokemon. They knew that their care taker was back and whined to be fed. She smiled, even though she knew these pokemon had little chance at being free, it was kind to know that she wasn’t alone.
“I know, I know.” Rena rolled her eyes as she walked over to the food bins and looked over the list of monsters’ that still needed to be fed.
'He-oo?'
Rena froze, dropping the scoop of food back into the bin. She could have sworn she heard something. She glanced around ignoring the whines of the pokemon from the cages. Something spoke to her and yet… did she really hear it? Didn’t seem vocal to her…
'hee-lo?'
Now she knew she heard something, or thought something. The blonde woman made her way down the lines of pokemon looking left in right. She was going to the back of the room where the larger cells were for the larger and more dangerous pokemon were kept.
“Um… hello?” Rena called out a little, wondering if she was just hearing things.
'Hoo!'
The blonde assistant raised an eyebrow now as she looked down the row of cells and blinked as she saw something stick a slim little pink rounded tip finger out of the food slide. It could stick three little fingers out and pull them back in and Rena could have sworn she heard a mockery of a mental giggle. The blonde thought over what pokemon had pink fingers before it dawned on her.
The Mewtwo!
The assistant quickly made her way down the hall and bent down beside the door.
“Are you awake, little one?” she asked gently knowing full well she was awake. Some jumbled words came to her and it was easy to see that the creature had no idea how to really speak. A feeling of content came into Rena’s mind. The woman guessed this was a way of saying yes with out words.
“That’s good.” Rena smiled a little, seeing how childlike the creature was acting as a burst of giggles escaped her, which sounded like mews. The woman reached over and touched the creature’s fingers and the Mewtwo let out a squeak and withdrew them. A twinge of fear and shock entered Rena’s mind. The assistant scowled wondering why the little clone reacted in such a way.
“I won’t hurt you.” Rena spoke in a whisper trying to get the Mewtwo to come back. “Come back little one.”
'Hurth' the very child like voice whimpered, the word barely understandable. While it wasn’t spoken the innocents of it in the woman’s mind made her smile just at that.
“I know, you probably hurt from being poked and prodded earlier and who knows what else. But you’re ok right now. Let me see…” Rena bent down so she could look through the food latch. She gasped and jumped back in surprise, the assistant wasn’t expecting to come eye to eye with the Mewtwo who was doing the exact same thing Rena had done.
A burst of mewling giggles escaped the cell while amusement filled Rena’s mind. The woman shook her head as she had been a bit shaken but was smiling herself. This creature was acting simply like a little three year old.
“You’re a silly thing.” Rena commented as she bent down and saw the pink fingers stick through the food latch again. The blonde reached over slowly and touched the fingers again. They flinched but didn’t pull out. Rena gripped what she could of the little hand.
A feeling came from the creature inside, a curious poke. 'Wo? Woho' The voice tried to speak.
“Rena, Re-na” The assistant replied slowly. It was strange trying to understand the clone and at the same time it made perfect sense, like baby talk almost.
'Reeee' the little voice spoke happily now as the Mewtwo tried to say the woman’s name.
“Close enough.” Rena chuckled a little.
Another curious mental poke came from the small clone.
“Um…” Rena smiled as she realized what the pokemon wanted. She ran over the options in her head trying to think of what to answer with. She leaned her head against the wall as she gripped the pokemon’s little hand.
Another mental poke came to Rena’s mind. A more knowing poke at that… as if the little creature had something to say but didn’t know exactly how to say it.
'Ni..mmm'
“Your names Nim?” Rena raised an eyebrow at that.
A feeling of frustration came.
'Nim… a! Ie!'
“Nima.. ie?” Rena frowned as this didn’t seem to be working like it should be.
Even more frustration and the hand withdrew back into the cell.
“… Nimie?” Rena asked now as she turned her head to look through the slot into the cell.
'Eee!'
The fingers came back through and nearly poked Rena in the eye. The assistant guessed she was right.
“Hello Nimie.” Rena petted the pink little hand, she was curious about one thing.
How did Nimie know she had a name?

End chapter.
