• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

I love the whole Bulbapedia style, but I miss the old style for here, it just worked easier and didn't hurt my eyes.

It has nothing to do with that.

Designing a forum layout with white text on a black background is a terrible idea to begin with.

It's not about bugs or something that can be "fixed" so easily.

If the layout was for, say, a Tumblr, which has a lot less text and more images usually, then the layout would be fine. But it's inherently problematic for a forum.

I'm speaking STRICTLY FROM A DESIGN STANDPOINT here. It doesn't seem like you understood what I even meant. LOL

And honestly, the layout is so horrible, color-wise, that it shouldn't have even gone up in the first place! I do understand it's meant to be based on Black and White, but why not have the site background black, with a white area for the text's background. Like how the default has a gray background with a green text background. I know it's possible.

I have no issues at all with the functionality of either layout. Just the aesthetics of the second one. I'm just trying to provide some advice, because it really is terrible to look at text that is white on black, if it's body copy.

Strictly from a design standpoint.

Jeez I hope you're not a designer, cause your idea is even worse. The BW theme is amazing and the better of the three currently available. You don't like it? Don't use it. Wait for the other themes to come out. And FYI, they were trying to be minimalistic. Apparently that concept was lost on you.

I actually kind of agree with minchan here. It might just be me with my slightly sensitive eyes, but the bright white text on a stark black background creates too much contrast, especially when reading lengthy paragraphs and such. For some reason it stands out in the Black and White skin much more than the Dark type skin, from what I remember.

I'm willing to wait for all these problems to be fixed, though. I understand they were in a rush and had to get everything done to not make us wait any longer.

No. It won't matter what themes are to be released. Some people dislike the layout (as in the template). No amount of theme-ing will fix that. It's always possible to use some JavaScript to move some HTML here and there, but it'll be a mess.

P.S.: The BW theme doesn't look "amazing" to me. Only in a forum would you ever see that kind of layout. Certainly not in professional websites.

Then wouldn't having a white background behind the text make it even worse (kind like how the reply boxes look when you are typing)? And couldn't you just dim your screen a little to reduce the brightness of the text?

He was talking about the theme, not the layout. Way to read.

And since you don't like the layout nor any of the themes anyways, your opinion is irrelevant in this discussion.

I officially love this upgrade. It brought back my ability to press ctrl + b/u/i to make the bold/underline/italicized tags appear that I lost once I started using google chrome

That is very useful and I did not know you could do that.

Are there any little things that are possible now due to the upgrade? Like I think you can write more on your biography now but it might just be me remembering the limit wrong.

It's a small world..
I think it's awesome! :) I've only been here for a couple of days and I already like it!!! :)

Only complaint is... some people might not notice the notification thing when they get a message it's small maybe the notification number should be a different color so it would catch their eye that they have a new message, etc. You know what I mean? The writing at the top kind of hurts my eyes just a tad. I'll get used to it though :)

But other than that I like it! A lot! :)

Err... my apologies? I thought that since I quoted you, you would know that I am replying to what you said, not minchan.

I agree, that idea is not any better. I never said I wanted it like that though. As for the screen bit, well, I always have it on the lowest setting when it's sunset/night. I'll be honest, my disliking of the text probably stems from the fact there is a white border around the posts, which makes the text seem more condensed and cluttered. Again, this may just be me. Some people like it, others don't. I don't like it, which is odd considering I loved the Dark type theme before, but ever since I switched to Steel type, the contrast of Black and White seemed too harsh for my eyes.

I won't be using the Black and White skin anyway, so why does it matter? I'm not sure, but I was just expressing my opinion on the topic.

Er... speaking as a designer, white on black is terrible for those with sensitive eyes, especially now that the font is a little smaller. There is a HUGE difference between that and what black on white would look like. Most sites tend to use a light color for the background and dark color for text. It's waaaay easier on your eyes when reading for extended amounts of time. Black on a slight grey is even better. Think about all the books you read. Black on white. Not the other way around.

You critiqued my response to him (and generalized it) without even seeing what I was responding to. Thus my response to you.

lol As long as we can agree to not like his idea, then I can live with that. I can see how the white borders make the text seem worse than they really are. Oh well, to each their own, I guess.

I understand that, thus one of the reasons why I was against his idea of putting even more white on the black. If it's really that bad, then adding more white won't help. But like I said before, it's just a theme that can be changed, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Cosmetic issue: But I get no updates for the VMs anymore. I was alerted to a PM, but there's no bold number sowing up in the corner for a VM I was waiting on and so missed a reply. Is that right, or is the alerter unhooked?

I must say this is a new polish. But Joe, if Memory recalls this sites creator checkly,

I think that some of the previous designs that some begged to return may have to be returned; BUT either renewed or polished. I think you may need some artistic help from the shops though if you ant it to be updated on the wiping upgrade.

I remembered using the electric one before.

But, it is if you can accept with help from artist experts available on your site.
