Well, since every handheld Pokemon game so far has been fixed movement (as in you can't go everywhere, just in 'squares' set in the game), would you like Diamond and Pearl to follow this, or be like Colosseum/XD and be a free roam adventure? Personally, I would love it to be freeroam.

Also, from the scans, in one picture, there is a trainer with the '!' above his head, and since there looks to be no 'full square' around him, either he moves out of the way, you push him out of the way with your character, or you can move around him in free roam.

So, what do you guys think?

I'd prefer fixed movement because anything else would interfere with wild pokemon appearence rates and feel awfully strange in the main games. I wouldn't mind seeing free roam in a spinoff. But the screen shots tell us anyway that it's on a grid.

Tbh, although loads of people (on other forums thankfully) are complaining that dp are probably going to have fixed movement according to the screenshots, i think its best. If we had free roam, people will be complaining how the were caught in a trainer battle by being one pixel into the trainers field of vision etc.
Also, fixed movement takes up a lot less memory (i think) which means...
More Pokemon! Bigger Continent! ;)

It'll probaly be fixed movement. Look at the screen shot that has a trainer with a "!" above his head. The male trainer is directly in front of him, with indicates that we will be probaly using squares again.

Fixed for the win. Easier, less complicated and judging by screenshots more likely too.
Agreed. It's just .. right.

i hope its gonna be free roam but everyone knows that its gonna be the sqare deal. (which i hope u dont mind me saying is gay)

Why change the formula after all these years? It'll be awfully strange to move diagonally with a directional pad, as I have found in other 3D platformers on handhelds.

Fixed. Free roam would just be awkward o.o

I don't really care either way, though considering the limitations of the D-Pad I expect it to be fixed movement.

I would prefer free roam, but it is much more likely to be fixed movement.

Grid-based movement FTW. We need it for all the puzzles and stuff we can expect to see in D/P. Where's the fun in an ice puzzle if you can just slide diagonally to the end in one move?

Fixed movement. It ain't broke, so why fix it? When i was playing Oracle series of Zelda (GBC), i wanted free movement, i still do, but it'd just be weird if it was changed this late into the franchise.

Keep it the way it is. Freeroam is nice in colo/XD, but would mess some things up, and feel strange.

I'm with you for this one Anyone 4 Buttons.
I've found it awkward to move freeroam with a d-pad, too. and, if you zoom in on the screen with the ! on the trainers head, you can definetly see that there must be squares.

yer id LIKE to have freeroam, but judging by the screens released, i doubt it, doesnt look very "free", it looks pretty squared movememnt
