Fruits Basket: A New Generation
How well do you know the stories of the Chinese Zodiac? Not well enough apparently. They began as ways of marking the calendar, but what some are unaware is that they’re actually real. Yes, they exist, but in the bodies of humans. And not just any humans, but a family called the Sohmas. Thirteen of the many Sohmas are cursed by the spirits of the Chinese Zodiac. When they are hugged by a non- Zodiac human or become weak of body, they transform into the animal they are cursed by.
I’m sure your thinking, wait, thirteen? There are only twelve Zodiac animals! That’s only partially true. There is another, the cat. The cat was excluded from the Zodiac because of another Zodiac animal, none other than the mischievous rat. Here’s how the legend goes:
One day, God asked all the animals to come to his house for a delicious banquet. But the rat, which was a trickster by nature, decided to play a trick on his neighbor the cat. He told the cat that the banquet would be held the next day. The rat rode all the way to God’s house on the Ox’s back. The twelve animals that came became the twelve animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Except for the poor cat, who had been tricked. Ashamed, he began to try and catch the rat at his mischievous games.
Since then the cat has been left out of the Zodiac, and desires more than anything to become part of it. And that is how the curse began. But the cat’s curse if far worse than any of the other twelve animals. The cat has another form, monster-like in appearance; it smells so horrid, you couldn’t breathe around it. Which is why the cat usually becomes isolated after a certain time in its life, to protect others from its true form.
For the Sohmas, the New Year is celebrated with a traditional banquet. Also, the animal of the previous year will dance with the animal of the next year. (ex. The rabbit would dance with the tiger) The cat, however, is never allowed to attend the banquet, for obvious reasons.
Every time a Zodiac member dies, for whatever reason, the spirit that cursed it will be reincarnated into a new Sohma. Now, a new generation of the Zodiac has been born.
The basic goal of the RP is to lift the Sohma curse. Here is the sign-up sheet-
Name: (please make it Japanese, as the Sohmas are Japanese)
Age: (can be 8 to 27)
Gender: (does not have to match that of the manga, for example, the tiger can be male even though it was female in the manga.)
Appearance: (five sentences min; try to include your animal form in this)
Personality: (five sentences min.)
History: (does not have to be long, but some of you will have varying histories.)
Zodiac Animal: (This is what animal your character is cursed by. Remember, it must be a Zodiac animal, with the exception of the cat. This doesn’t apply to the human that will come into the RP. Similar to Tohru from the manga, this person will come to learn of the curse, but will end up helping to break it.)

Name: Zurui
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Appearance: She is tall and pale; she has bright blue eyes with huge pupils, like that of a Siamese cat, which happens to be her animal form. She has blonde hair though her roots are dark brown. She has a beaded bracelet hidden underneath long sleeves that nearly cover her hands, which have long and slender fingers. She is graceful, and walks with a sense of pride, another trait shared by the Siamese cat.
Personality: She can be quite stubborn, so there really is no use arguing with her. Like Kyo, the cat in the manga, she has a bad temper, but doesn’t express it in necessarily the same way as he did. Also like Kyo, she yearns to take her place in the Zodiac circle by defeating the rat, and thus becoming a “real” member of the Sohma family. However, unlike Kyo, she is somewhat shy, while Kyo is very social.
History: Her parents rejected her when they discovered the Sohma curse, sad but true. After they had another child, also cursed by the Zodiac, their memories were erased to avoid insanity and other such things. She got over it quickly, however, She has dedicated her time to protecting her little brother, Sukai, who is cursed by the tiger. She lives another zodiac member outside the Sohma estate, and goes to high school, though the head of the family wanted to send her to an all girl’s school.

Name: Sukai “Suki”
Age: 8
Gender: Male
Appearance: He is pale like his sister, and also shares her bright blue eyes. But the strangest things about him are his short, shock-white hair and his slightly girlish appearance. He seems to wear long T-shirts, with shorts underneath, and the shirts are generally light blue in color, matching his eyes. His sleeves are far too long for him, and often he can be found walking around with several fingers in his mouth.
Personality: Far more shy than his sister; at school he usually just sits silently in a corner. He is very bright, but you’d be lucky if you ever got him to talk to you. He usually only communicates verbally with Zurui, who he calls Ziri (Zihr-ee). He loves fish and stewed leeks, and his favorite thing to do is read.
History: After Suki was born, he and Zurui’s mother couldn’t handle having had another Zodiac member. She basically had a major meltdown, and almost died from the stress. It was then decided that her memories of the two were to be erased.
Extra Note: There are many Sohmas that aren’t aware of the Zodiac curse. Mainly it’s just those directly related to the Zodiac Members (also called the Juiinishi) Also, Zodiac members can be directly related to each other, such as how the rat and the snake were brothers in the manga.

The human who stumbles upon the curse is going to be played by Litestars(Sorry if I spelled your name wrong). We want the genders to be more evened out, mainly because they weren't in the manga.(there were only three girls in the chinese zodiac in the manga) So, when we feel there are too many of one gender, we'll close the door to it and tell you to sign-up as the other.
