The Admiral
the star of the masquerade
Earthshine Alchemist... a title that once instilled both fear and respect into all who hear it. “Earthshine Alchemist,” of course, is just a form of State Alchemist. Everyone knows what a State Alchemist is – usually the term is reserved only to Germany, but it is used in many places.
It is 2016 A.D. on Earth, says the Christian calendar. The world is at war once more. The cause of this is mostly due to the inconsideration of many world leaders, prominently the President of the United States of America. The war was mostly over petroleum dominance – America felt it deserved it more than anyone else, in a sort of a “divine-right” way. A constitutional amendment was made to keep the current president, as of 2008, in office for a few more terms, just to ride the storm out. A shift in chief executive officer directly in the throes of war, it was believed, would be disastrous. Germany is, once more, a key player in the war. Berlin, the capital city, is now reserved to the Government, a small civilian district, and vast amounts of industry and armed-forces buildings. The government of Germany is falling apart.
The Earthshine Alchemists go back a very long time. Historically, they are responsible for many inventions; however most were forgotten because their usage never came to pass. The Earthshine Alchemists are not a line of descent, they are chosen by what they possess. Every Earthshine Alchemist possesses a large amount of Alchemic skill. Additionally, they also have a special form of power within, something referred to, for simplicity’s sake, as the “Earthshine Factor.”
The first Earthshine Alchemist, Sidiln, was originally a state alchemist. Earthshine Alchemist... it's just an alchemist title, not an order. Sidiln became a state alchemist, the first Earthshine Alchemist, in 1949, the start of the Cold War. His specialty was light/laser-focused Alchemy. He designed the first laser satellite, which never came to physical fruition. The old designs were burned and all further mentions of them were stated to have been real, but they were never mentioned to have been German, and were always listed as being created for Russia by an unnamed heretic. He also secretly designed a space-travel machine in the midst of the US/Soviet moon race. It also never got off the ground. Sildin lived a long life with the military, and, precisely one day before he was to be released (He served from 1949 to 1969, starting at age 31), he mysteriously disappeared. He was in line to become the next Fuehrer, however this, just like his space weapons, never came to pass.
Next came Rozen, under the name of Jack Rose, who designed the original seven Rozen Maiden dolls prior to his service. He became a state alchemist in 1984 as the second Earthshine Alchemist. The role was revived. However, in 1985, the dolls were sucked through a time rip into the past, and, Rozen, in his madness, attempted to rebulid the dolls. However, he, too, soon disappeared through a time rip, sucked through a future-bound timewarp. His assistant took up the tool shack and built Barasuishou, Rozen Maiden 0. Barasuishou was a bastard-child, being originally the idea of Rozen and constructed by a young apprentice who was somewhat incompetent. As a result, it had no Spirit nor a Rosa Mystica, until an unusual reaction occurred during a time rip. Until then, it became, for all intents and purposes, an AI convinced that it was the seventh Rozen Maiden, as Kirakishou, the real No. 7 had not yet appeared. It played a major role in the sixth Alice Game.
Flash forward about 13.5 years to 1999. Jun winds Shinku, the fifth Rozen Maiden. Events occur resulting in the awakening of all seven dolls (with Barasuishou taking up the role of Rozen Maiden 7 prior to Kirakishou’s appearance) - the Alice Game commences. In the midst of the insanity, the scheming ‘Devil of Laplace,’ a creature which appears to be a sharp-dressed anthropomorphic rabbit residing only in the N-fields, steals the Rosa Mystica of Souseiseki from Suigintou and returns it to its rightful owner for reasons he refused to describe. Souseiseki, now 'reborn' - in a fairly loose sense of the word - has gained a new medium after her original medium had died, a foreign-exchange boarding student named Geddy who does not know very much about the Rozen Maiden dolls. Souseiseki finally obtains all seven Rosa Mystica, fueled by Geddy's immense energy, defeating Suigintou, which normally would have been an incredible feat. However, as Megu, Suigintou’s medium, still had not had her heart condition treated, she was forced into a coma in the midst of the final battle, and caused her to be far too weak to defeat the massively-empowered Souseiseki.
Souseiseki had been right all along - the Alice Game was meaningless. Nothing happened as a result of obtaining all the Rosa Mysticae except that she had merely ‘slaughtered’ her sisters. Now, she was all alone, as Geddy had been drafted upon returning to Germany. She returned the Rosa Mysticae to their rightful owners, and they all fell into a deep sleep, waiting for the next person to awaken them…
Flash forward another 17 years. In this time period, Arashi Adolpha had become a State Alchemist - he had the same certain type of power in him as had been seen in the previous Earthshine Alchemist, and had been given such a title himself. However, World War III had begun. Germany, as mentioned, was again one of the major theatres of combat. In the midst of the chaos, a fully-working humanoid robot – something that had not yet been developed - appears and demands the position of Fuhrer. The Fuhrer refuses. The robot swears 'divine retribution' and calls himself 'Sidiln, rightful heir to the position of Kaiser and Earthshine Alchemist.'
Sidiln, unbeknownst to all, had been sucked through a time rip to the Edge of Forever, the time rip had been created by someone leaving said time. While he was there, he gained the power to warp through time as he pleased. He acquired supplies for creating many Homunculi as well as several attack mechs. He encased his aging body in a robot and continued on. With each time warp, a subsequent time rip carried one of Rozen’s creations, and, eventually, him, into another time. Each of the dolls wound up in the past, Rozen was in the far future.
And suddenly, these homunculi and robots begin to terrorize the world. Militaries the world over are at a loss of ideas. Their weapons are not efficient enough to clear out the beasts. Then, eight mysterious packages arrive, one for each member of crack team of eight State Alchemists of Germany assigned to bring the invasion to its knees. They all contain similar cases, each containing one of the eight Rozen Maiden dolls. Their goal is, of course, to stop Sidiln's forces and to win the war for Germany. Either that or commit mutiny.
The fate of Germany is now in your hands. All eight of you.
((Out-of-signup: For images, please see this Wikipedia article as I do not have many images of most of the dolls.))
One - Suigintou
Suigintou was the first to be constructed. She is the oldest of the sisters and is noted to be the most driven to become "Alice." Sadistic and arrogant, though rather ashamed of the fact that she is incomplete, and occasionally envious of the complete. Once tried to reduce all others to her level, at which point, she thought, she would have just as much of a chance to win the Alice Game. Shows little compassion. Can use feathers as weapons similar to rifle shots and can shift several feathers into a longsword.
Spirit: Meimei
Case/Spirit Color: Black
Two - Kanaria
Kanaria was the second to be created. A lover of music and also rather eccentric, she can use a violin to generate various destructive frequencies. Considered herself to be stealthy and, presumably, the most powerful of the lot, speaking of stealing her sisters' Rosa Mysticae with little to no effort.
Spirit: Pichikato
Case/Spirit Color: Yellow
Three - Suiseiseki
The third doll, Suiseiseki was the first created who can enter dream worlds - an ability that many humans see as akin to astral projection. More focused on defense than her younger sister Souseiseki, she has a watering can that can be used to aid someone's "Spirit Tree" found in their dream world. Somewhat abusive to Hinaichigo and occasionally to her medium. One of the first to figure out that the Alice Game was a sham. Notedly a bit rash.
Spirit: Sui Dream
Case/Spirit Color: Green
Four - Souseiseki
Suiseiseki's younger sister, she can also enter dream worlds and carries a set of huge pruning shears which she can wield as a greatsword-like weapon. Analytical and noticeably more reserved than her older sister, she discovered that the Alice Game was a sham. One of the few dolls to change Medium during the previous Alice Game, she won with the help of Geddy, her second Medium, who was an energetic boarding student. Eventually returned the Rosa Mysticae to her sisters and they all fell into a deep sleep.
Spirit: Lempicka
Case/Spirit Color: Teal
Five - Shinku
The fifth, originally commanded by Jun. Probably the most demanding of the group, she is aristocratic and does not accept failure. While she refuses to employ lowbrow, drastic measures in the Alice Game, her drive to become Alice is rivaled only by Suigintou, who are constantly at ends with each other. Controls rose plants and can give temporary life to non-living dolls to use as cronies. Fights with a deceptively weak-looking pink plastic cane. Can create also create a shield.
Spirit: Holie
Case/Spirit Color: Red
Six - Hinaichigo
Hinaichigo is considered by most to be rather annoying, she is a child at heart and by mindset. She looks the youngest, too, and is often selfish or naive. Falls for a lot of the tall tales Suiseiseki tells her. However, she is not to be underestimated. Controls rose plants. Her spirit transmits voices.
Spirit: Berrybell
Case/Spirit Color: Pink
Seven - Kirakishou
Little is known about the seventh Rozen Maiden. A blue rose exists where her right eye would be. She is generally fairly cold and focused, paying little care to her Medium.
Spirit: Phobos
Case/Spirit Color: Silver
Zero - Barasuishou
Barasuishou was originally created by Rozen's jealous assistant. However, she was destroyed as she lacked a Rosa Mystica and a Spirit. These were later instated by an enigma from the distant future. She has little personality and seems almost as if to be an AI. Can control crystals and glass.
Spirit: Krystallnacht
Case/Spirit Color: Purple

Name: Arashi Adolpha
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Personality: Arashi is rarity among soldiers in these times, an individual focused on his job who does not care for going home. He knows his life is expendable, being a soldier, yet remains unburdened by this fact. That is not to say he will embrace death – he is not afraid of it, though, and would probably enjoy possibly cheating it a few times. He sees the importance of taking chances and says that you’re not living life to its fullest if you don’t take any chances. In combat he holds no quarter and tries his hardest to end it as soon as possible. Often comes off as uncaring.
Appearance: Long black hair, bright green eyes, about six feet tall, not heavily built. He wears a black trench coat with a silver ‘ringer’ T-shirt (with black collar and sleeve endings) and long silver pants underneath. Also, he wears a black leather bracer on left arm with a flat face on the ‘outside’ – it features four silver circles arranged in a line on this panel. He wears the black and silver key from the doll on a chain around his neck.
History: His parents were government workers. Of course, in this instance, "government workers" is just a colloquialism for slaves of the ruler of a powerful nation. Their job was to oversee repairs of the main boot camp in Berlin and see to it that where repairs were necessary, repair-crew alchemists were there immediately. They had limited alchemic power – something he was often picked on about. His parents were killed in a rebel insurrection and quickly forgotten. At this time, he was eleven – smart yet still a bit foolhardy and not yet terribly proficient in Alchemy. Arashi, who loved his parents very dearly, once wished to revive them through Homunculus transmutation, but saw the dangers quickly and gave up on that. He worked on some technology-centered things in his younger years, up until about 16, and eventually got into government affairs. In his testing to become a State Alchemist at age 16, he developed the first fully-functional plasma rifle while doing machine work, the schematics to which are now amongst Germany's best-kept secrets. Now, he is 18, and must face opposing soldiers from across time and history. He is quite certain that he is the most wanted man in Germany from a war perspective and that his life is expendable. However, given the misfortunes of other Earthshine Alchemists, he is surprisingly not afraid.
