Dante & The Homunculi

********************Chapter 1********************
-Unfair-

November 17. 1541

A war has broken out through the region of Eporue, between two of the region’s strongest countries, England and France. France, considering it’s incredible loss of soldiers in the war, have began drafting soilders to combat.

“Why does father have to go away?” young Dante asked. Dante has short brown hair, the color of a late, crisp, deep autumn’s leaf. And with vibrant blue eyes, the color of the sky on a cloudless day. “Father has some work to get done in another city.”, Dante’s mother replied. Dante’s mother had longer, brown hair, with blonde tint to it. She had grey eyes with a copper-colored ring around the pupil. And wore a house apron that was white and a light green dress underneath, which was worn out.

Dante’s father left, leaving behind two loving children and a caring wife.

May 15. 1542

A dark and gloomy day in Orléans, France. The British have invaded the town of Orléans.

“Sir, what shall we do?”, the one British soldier asked the colonel.

“Burn down the complete city.”, the colonel responded.

On the other side of town, the townspeople saw the British burning down the town, and many were able to escape. Dante’s mother was packing up her belongings, and left her house with her two children. Dante was seven years-old, with a younger sister about two years-old.

“Mother, why do we need to leave?”

“Dante, don’t worry, it’s going to be alright.”

“Mother don’t forget father’s book.”

“Come on Dante, let’s go. Forget the book”

Mother and young Dante meet other relatives down the street and started off to the city of Apris, carrying all their important possessions. Behind them can be seen a group of English Soldiers burning down the houses they lived in.

Dante and her relatives make it to a near by city of Le Arit the next day. “Oh’ hello Dante. It’s been a while since we have last met. I am your Aunt Clara. Do you remember me? How old are you?” her aunt asks. Dante pulls on her mother’s dress, hiding her face. “Don’t be shy.” her mother said. “I… am seven.” Dante responded. “Wow. Seven…” her aunt responds.

November 12. 1542

Dante’s mother and her two children have made it to a town very close to Apris, Nothil. Nothil is known for its use of alchemy for medical uses. As they pass through it, they see a boy performing alchemy in the streets. He was decomposing different rocks, into powder. And then he got out some plants, and broke down the elements of them aswell, inabling him to create medicine. The boy had light, blonde hair, with gold eyes, the color of the sun reflecting off of water. He was a bit short, for his age of ten years. Dante’s mother went up to the boy, since he looked quite knowledgible.

“Do you know how to get to Apris?”, Dante’s mother asked the young boy.

“Yes.”, he said as getting a map out, “See here, you just take this path north, and you should be in Apris.”

“Thank you so much.” Dante’s mother said. She handed him two gold coins that had a dragon engraved upon them.

“Wow! Thanks ma’am.”

Dante’s mother smiled back as she left the boy. They headed north, passing through a city that was torn to pieces, with corpses laying around the city and what was once buildings, now piles of ashes.

“Mommy… what happened?”, Dante asked.

“It’s God… he hates our people.”

November 13. 1542

Dante’s family got lost, and headed to the closest town. They were at the top of the hill, overlooking the huge city below. And in the distance the sun was setting. Filling the sky with a rainbow of colors, red, blue, purple, yellow, and orange. It was a cool evening with a small breeze in the air.

“The map says this is Apris, but the sign reads Versil.” Dante’s mother said to herself softly..

Dante looked at the sign, “Maybe this is Apris but another part of town.”, as she look at the huge, pure white buildings below them.

“Hello.”, a voice said behind her mother. She turned around quickly.

“Uhhh… Lionel.”, Dante’s mother said looking at the man about a foot away from her. She couldn’t believe her eyes. “It’s been so long…”, she said. She blinked.

“Mommy, who are you talking to? No one is there.”, Dante said.

“…You’re right…”, she said, as the man had disappeared.

“Ma’am. Ya need help?”, a man said, watching Dante’s mother. The man was sort of tall. He was a bit over-weight and had a long beard. The beard was gray, the color of silver. He had a bag over his shoulder, carrying a sholve and a pick.

“Uh… yes. Is this Apris?”

The man laughed. “No, this is the capital of France, Versil.”

“Where’s Apris?”

“Look of yander.”, the man said as he was pointing north. “See the small city over there? That’s Apris.”

“Thank you so much.” Dante’s mother said. “Hold on just a second.”, she said as she was searching through her bag. “Here, take this.” She handed the man a loaf of bread.

“Uh… thanks Ma’am.”

November 15. 1542

Dante’s mother, herself, and her sister have finally made it to Apris.

“What do you mean you haven’t any room for us?!”, Dante’s mother exclaimed.

“Sorry ma’am. Our inn is full.”

Dante’s mother grabbed Dante and her sister and left the inn. Dante’s mother was so angry, since she knew the inn wasn’t even near being full, but seeing that she was from Southern France, they wouldn’t let her stay.

They continued down the street to only meet Dante’s Aunt Clara.

“Hello Clara.”, Dante’s mother said from across the street in relief.

“Hello.”, Aunt Clara crossed the street.

“Where’d you go? We were all sleeping that night and the next morning half of our group was missing, including you.”, Dante’s mother asked.

“We were taken capitive by the British.”, she said. She rolled up her sleeve up over her shoulder, “They tortured us.”, showing her burn marks. “We were able to find an inn here, accepting us. You’re allowed to come stay with us if you want.”

“Okay. I we’ll stay. We must have went to five other inns, and all declining us.”

“Well this one on the other side of town.”, Aunt Clara said.

Aunt Clara took them to the inn. The room had no windows. It was a very chilly room, with no source of heat, accept blankets. There was only one bed, which layed on the floor with no pillows. The walls had paint chipping off them, which was a white, with a brown stains on them. The only source of light in the room was the small amount light shinning through the window across the room only in the morning, because they didn’t have any candles. There wasn’t a door between the bedroom and the hallway. Although this was completely different from the elegant house Dante’s family had in Orléans, this was better than the streets.

April 14. 1543

Dante’s mother has gotten a job in town, as a pharmacist. One day when she was coming back from work, she heard a man to another man talking on the streets.

“The war is over, atleast that’s what I heard.”, he said.

She walked near the man and listened in.

“The French came through and defeated the British.”, the man said.

She went home to the inn, with the strong belief that her husband would come home. She went over to her sister, Clara, who was babysitting Dante since her mother was at work.

“Clara, can I talk you you?”, Dante’s mother asked anxiously.

Clara came over to the door way where she was standing, “What’s wrong?”

“Can you please watch Dante and Danielle for me?” she asked nicely.

“Didn’t you just come back from work?”

“No, I mean I want to go back to Orléans.” Dante’s mother said.

“No, no, no. You don’t want to go back there.”, Aunt Clara responded, trying to get her to stay.

“No, my husband should be there.”

“Only if you want, but it won’t do you no good…”, she said, trying to help her.

“No, he’s going to be there… I know it.”, Dante’s mother said with strong hope.

“Only if you insist, but it remember, it won’t do you any good.”

“I must be going.”, Dante’s mother said.

Dante’s mother left, in the breaking of the sunset.

“Where’s mommy going?”, Dante asked her Aunt Clara.

“She’s going to work. She told me to tell you she loves you very much and that she’ll be back soon.”

“’Kay.”, young Danielle said as she was playing with her blocks, completely oblivious of what was going on.

This is pretty good! I like how it focuses on Dante and her family instead of Edward and Alphonse Elric. I can't really say much now but I really like this fan fic! I hope you'll write more soon! (not like I'm trying to rush you or anything)

****************Chapter 2****************
-Rose-

April 9. 1444

Dante’s mother has been in Orléans for over a week now, sleeping out on the streets, waiting from her husband. The town is pretty deserted since most of the buildings are burnt. She was on the corner of the street. There was a house right behind her, and a small corner shop across the street from her. But now they were nothing but only ashes now.

“Who the hell are you?”, a voice said from beind Dante’s mother.

She turned around quickly, with hope it was her husband, “Lionel?”, she observed the man for a minute. He had huge muscles and had a brown beard and brown hair. He was missing his right arm.

“Ha… Lionel. Ah yes… Commander Alchimie…”, the man said.

“Oh’ my god. You know him? Is he alive? Where is he?”, she snapped out questions at the man, knowing her husband must be alive.

“Ha ha ha. You don’t know, do you? He was killed.”

Her thought’s running through her mind came to a dead stop in dis-belief. “No… he isn’t dead… he can’t be…”, she said with two tears running from her eyes.

“Damn, he’s dead. I was the one who killed him. And his body did splice quite well over the others…”

She stared at the ground with tears falling from her face. She was thinking, “This can’t be…It can’t be…”

The man crouched down next to the crying widow. “Let me tell you a story. I knew Lionel. I was under his command. We were sent from town to town in England. We were told to kill anyone who saw us. Me, him, and other French soldiers killed thousands of innocent Britons. No matter if they were old, young, women, or men, all were killed. One night our group was sleeping in a building of many Britons we had killed earlier that day. The British apparently knew we were in there, and killed all the of the other soldiers that were asleep except me and Lionel. They tried killing me, they just cut my arm badly, figuring I’d bleed to death. But I didn’t. I stayed quiet, and saw my best friend taken away. A few months later, I was better, but I was missing my arm. They set me back into combat. I found Lionel during one of the fights in the town. He was running from the British sodliers. Though he was running the opposite direction of me. Lionel had on that horrible uniform of the British soldiers, the blue with the bright yellow lacing around the shoulders. I turned around, away from where I should have been going to fight, to follow Lionel. He told me he was taken captive and he had to turn, to the other side, the British or they would kill him. Since he was gone, he was quickly replaced on the French side with Colonel Quinn. When we were running, I saw Colonel Quinn. He had a sword to my head, resting right upon my shoulder, facing my neck. His second in command nearby handed me a sword. ‘Well Louch, you can take that sword and kill me, and my other soldiers here will kill you, or you can support you country and kill this here Briton. He knew that was Lionel, but didn’t know he was kidnapped earlier, and only believed he was betraying his country. Either way he would have been killed, and I felt it was my duty, as a friend.”

The man, Louch, said. The once stronger Louch in the beginning of the conversation, began his break down. His voice began to break up, and he had a tear start running down his cheek. He was remembering all the times they had as soldiers together and the night of his kidnapping continued to replay in his mind, “I didn’t want to…”

“It’s okay…”, she said patting him on the shoulder lightly, “I understand…” She got up and started walking away in the town of ashes. She turned around to Quinn, “I wish you best of luck…” the upset, crying widow said.

July 27. 1444

“When’s mommy going to be back?”, Danielle asked.

“She’s going to be back soon.”, Aunt Clara said. She didn’t really believe her sister would ever make it home alive.

“Mommy is never going to come home, like daddy.”, Dante said to her sister very bluntly.

“No, mommy and daddy will come back home, just give them time.”, their Aunt Clara assured.

Dante’s mother finally made it back to Apris. She was walking the streets, with her head hing down. “How could I have been so dumb. So dumb to actually think Lionel would have survived. Even him to have thought to go back to Orléans.”, she thought. She walked up to her apartment.

“Oh’ my god. MOMMY!”, Dante and Danielle yelled with happiness in their voices. They both ran up to and clinged to her legs. Their mother was so happy to see them.

Clara turned around to see her sister as she thought to herself, “Finally, I didn’t want another moment with those brats.” Clara got off the floor and walked over to her sister, “Your children were so great.”, she smiled, “Any luck?”

Her sister bowed her head down and sighed. “It’s okay… he’s in a better place.”, her sister said.

July 28. 1444

It was a warm summer afternoon. Dante was out in the streets chasing her little sister around. Their mother and her sister were out sitting on the steps of the inn, drinking some wine. “Life sucks…”, Dante’s mother said out of the blue.

“I’m sorry to make your life even more worse, but I must be leaving. My husband is is in Le Arit I just found out recently.”

“You’re married?!”, Dante’s mother cried out.

“No, sorry, my soon to be husband. Remember Remi, my boyfriend back in Orléans, me and him were going to get married but we left because of the British. And we were separated. And I just got word he is in Le Arit.”, her sister said happily.

“Oh’. I hope you both have a good wedding. I’m not making that much here, so I’ll probably stay here.”

“Okay. I will come back to visit you, I promise.”, her sister said. She went inside and got her bags she had packed up the previous night and left right then and there.

March 7. 1445

“Mommy, when is daddy coming back?”, Danielle asked her mother.

“He’s on his way.”

“He isn’t ever coming back!”, Dante blurted out at the dinner table.

Their mother left the table, running to her room with tears rolling down her face like boulders down a mountain.

“Why’d you make mommy cry?”, Danielle asked.

Dante got up from the table and left the house, to go down the street for some paper at the stationary store. She was walking down the street, in the cold evening. It was already dark outside. She looked around as she was walking. She saw a family walking down the street. A father and mother holding hands. With the mother holding her daughter’s hand and the father holding the other daughter’s hand.

“Mommy I love you.”, the older daughter said.

Dante began to run. With the thought if she ran away from her fears, the would vanish. The street posts with the golden flame buring within them, illuminating the streets, glaring flashes across her face. She ran, faster and faster. So fast the bumped into a man. The man was tall, with light brown hair under his dark brown hat. He had brown eyes, glaring down at her. He was dressed in a dark black cloak.

“You oughta slow down.”, the man said. She just looked up to him and was afraid.

“I see fear in your eyes. If you run from it, it will only become a greater fear of yours. You oughta slow down and smell the roses once in a while.”, the man said, bending over and pulling a rose from inside his cloak, handing it to her. She took it, sniffing it.

“That smells good…”, she said.

“Yes, if you wouldn’t have slowed down, you wouldn’t have been able to smell it.”

Dante looked up at him.

“Take the rose, and remember to slow down in life…”, the man said to Dante, and continued walking along.
