Honestly, I though GC was a crappy system compared to the PS2, but after watching this, I'm mad I sold my GC D:

What did you base that on? It's pretty well known that Nintendo systems last longer than others (minus the NES of course). Why did you think the PS2, of all systems, was more durable than the GC?

The vid is over a year old, but still impressive. Also, they tested durability on X-Play on TechTV, and it still powered up after Morgan Webb dropped it from a story high, coming out over both the PS2 and Xbox.

Yes, Nintendo builds their systems well (except when my DS had a dead piXel >__>. Glad I sent it to Nintendo to get it removed). Back on topic, that X-Play test proves all. Anybody have a video of that, it was hysterical.

Anyone remember the story from a long while back, a kid got annoyed that he couldn't win at some game so he pulled out a rifle and shot his XBox and the bullet just bounced off it.

I guess it's just scraping it along a road, it's just damaging the outer cover which I suppose is pretty thick.

Unlike the thousands of PSP owners with dead pixels, who can't have them replaced because Sony doesn't consider it a fault unless like 15% of pixels are dead (because there was so damn many of them it would financially own Sony if they had to replace every one which had a dead spot).

LMAO at that. I guess the Gamecube isn't the most durable after all. It can take a beating, but the XBOX has bullet-proof armor!

Dead pixels happen in all LCD's, a problem that can be found from your computer's moniter, to your TV.

It's not Nintendo's craftmanship.

Nintendo doesn't build cheap pieces of **** like other companies do. All of the systems I own are durible - Nintendo is not a "cheap ***" company as those Sony Fanboys say. Their systems are pretty much stronger than any other console/handheld on the market.

First of all, let's start by introducing you to your problem.
Gamecube consoles feature a very delicate DVD mechanism system, that as it
turned out, was faulty. Running for 2-3 years already, 40% of the Gamecube
consoles purchased, started showing Disk Reading Errors while playing a game.
These DREs would occur more often as time passed, and in the end would result
in the death of the system. Some consoles even showed the DRE problem before
the first year from their purchase. Nintendo was keen to replace those
consoles under warranty. But what about those other with the same problem,
that were out of warranty?

^^ The above info. shows the answer to the GCN durability question, and this quote explains more:

Grey Rain Cloud (from Gamefaqs) said:
Q:MY GAMECUBE CANNOT LOAD GAMES ANYMORE, AND WHEN IT DOES THERE IS A DRE 10-15 MINUTES LATER. WHAT CAN I DO?
A: Your console's lens have been "de-calibrated". Through the "strain" of
playing games all this while, your lens have slowly lost their focus and
laser strength. They can no longer read big parts of information, and they
cannot read certain m-DVD opening sessions to start playing your game.
They need to be re-calibrated.

Read Grey Rain Cloud's FAQ to find out how to solve this problem... Now, back to the thread...

ohhhh, so you think just cuz your DS has a dead pixel, it was a sign of unstability. Well guess again
I had one of the worst ds mishaps around September and it came out of nowhere and I took care of it too. Unfortunately that caused me to ship it from New York to Washington for 50 bucks
My ds top screen, like the entire center of the screen was cracked and the pixels were turning all these weird colors and finally in the center it was this weird magnetic black. Now that's a sign!
Cool video though, worth watching. I never watch internet videos but this one intrigued me.

Wow nice job going totally off topic crystal clair.

That just goes to show you nintendo is the best...it just doesn't have a bullet proof casing.

The screen would not have cracked by itself. It had to have experience undue stress to do so.

PS - Nintendo products are awesome when it comes to durability.

OMG nintendo systems are very durable. My friend's DS fell in a, well um, I do not know how to say this so I will just go out with it, A POTTY. After *much cleaning* it worked fine, mic and all. My GC, that has fallen a total of 100ft and still lives on.(Think 5ft 20 times) Nintendo builds them to last.

Yeah Nintendo systems are extremely durable. I've dropped my Gameboys and DS and they still work.

Gregjammer all CD based systems lasers break down after many years. I was one of the unfortunate ones who got a Gamecube that went into a error fit. I've bought a new one to replace it. the old one lasted 4 years. My friends Gamecube on the other hand that he got at launch still works to this day with no disc recalibrations.

Though I've read many forums where PS2's have gotten disc read errors and Xbox's also getting it aswell. According to alot of Sony fans on the other forums alot of them have been through 3 PS2's and I haven't read that about Gamecubes. There are many Gamecube owners still on their first and of course some on there 2nd. I have never read an account where someone is on there 3rd Gamecube. It not just game systems with lasers in them either. One of my DVD players have stopped spinning discs so I had to return it. My second DVD player seems to not play the sound smoothly on most Madman DVD's. It used to play them great ages ago.
My friend has to put a cleaning disc through his DVD player to get it to work. If he doesn't it freezes.

Did anyone realise according to a computer technition we had over the other day conputers aren't expected to work for more than 5 years. This is quite interesting because it's starting to make me wonder that companies don't want their products to last so of course people will buy more. Though I made a computer last for 7 years which broke down now. That's why the technition was over. He said he was surprised it lasted that long.

CD based systems according to many companies supposedly have a 4 to 5 year life literally because of the laser. It doesn't just effect Nintendo believe me. After reading about this in general about CD based systems I've been reluctant in getting a Revolution, Xbox 360 or a PS3. I'm very reluctant about the PS3 since it's using a different laser. Blu Ray uses a blue laser. I won't be buying any of them until I get a overveiw from early adopters of lastability.

I'm liking cartridge base better and better everytime a Cd system breaks especially if the CD based system is a console. I haven't had one cartridge based system break yet.
