One game made as a response to the violent video game story was Harvester, and while some aspects have aged badly, from jokes to some gameplay, that truly is a game I don’t see being made again, even as point and click/narrative games come back as their own niche

Street Fighter 4... This game introduced the 2.5D aesthetic that every other fighting game followed. Mortal Kombat 9, King of Fighter 14, Samurai Shodown 19 and Guilty Gear Xrd all adapted that style and essentially ditched sprite work. There are still sprite-based fighting games, but there are getting more niche, fewer in numbers and/or using more retro designs.
