In Fallout 3, I didn't know you could hold down the use key to continuously drink from a water fountain for a really long time.

I did not know how to reload prior to completely emptying your guns magazine (where a reload would happen automatically) until after I had completely finished Resident Evil 4. I learned how to do this in the middle of my second playthrough.

Not knowing how to get off the bike in Ruby and Sapphire. Took me weeks to get off my bike next to the Kecleon shadow right next to the ladder and the gym and even then, I needed help.

'Course, I was at most 7 or 8 then.

Clamps

Warning: Jokes!
In Red Alert 2, I had no idea you could scroll faster by holding down the right mouse button and then moving the cursor in the direction you wanted to move. I've been playing this game at least a few times a month for just about a damn decade now, and I only just discovered this about a week ago.

Not knowing that Tms were unbreakable and had infinite uses in Black and White

I kind of realized the change when one NPC informed me through in-game dialogue. Perhaps you should have read that.

When I first played Asassin's Creed, I didn't know about the Weapon Wheel, where you could access more weapons (i.e. pistol, throwing knives, smoke bombs etc.) I didn't know about this in AC2 when I played it at my friend's house, but when I eventually got Brotherhood (only had an Xbox since December), I eventually learned that.

Especially given that the NPC was a gym leader...

I never could use the cape in SMW to fly for quite a while. I eventually ended up teaching myself how to do it through trial and error.

I did not know about picks in Minecraft until a friend showed the wiki to me. *facepalm*

I only found out about the sneak feature in Minecraft after a month of gameplay.

Nope. Made it pretty clear pre-release, and in-game.

I still suck at cape/wing cap(SM64). I rage at the 'Red Coins in the Sky' level to this day.
I didn't know it was possible to jump in BioShock until I was almost at the end, escorting the little sister, then its like "HOLYCRAP."
Don't you have to jump early on? Or was that just crouching?

Skiks

Sin and Punshiment. I went through the game for like an hour without knowing I could slash. If it weren't for that one fight where you needed to use it I would have gone through the whole game without.

In Legend of Zelda:WW I had no idea about the lock-on targeting feature, well kinda forgot about it. And I only learnt about it when I randomly press the L button made that dungeon boss so easy to beat.
