Gen 8 Gym Types and Structure Speculation Thread

I wonder if Sirfetch'd will be Bea's signature Pokemon. It seems out of place but it's not the first time we've had signature Pokemon that look kind of a mismatch. Korrina and Hawlucha and Molayne and Alolan Dugtrio is a good example. Oh speaking of Molayne and his Alolan Dugtrio, since we can all absolutely agree that Regional Variants are like entirely new Pokemon lol, I wonder which regional variants will become which Gym Leader's signature Pokemon.

I kind of hope we won’t have more version exclusive gym leaders.
In my opinion version exclusive aspects should encourage trading or otherwise interactions with people owning the other version, like version exclusive Pokémon, and the (although horribly implemented) key system in BW2.
Version exclusive gym leaders don’t really do that, they only encourage the player to buy two almost identical games.

If you look how it is worded on the official pokemon website when it comes to version exclusive gyms it's pretty clear that were at least getting one more pair of version exclusive gym leaders.

I've gotta stop mixing Bea and Bede up..

But regarding Sirfetch'd for Bea.. I don't know? I mean it's a Fighting type, so definitely possible.. but Sirfetch'd almost doesn't really embody her style of fighting, if you get me? They've gone for the traditional fighter design.. Brawly/Korrina/Maylene-esque... so for a knight-based, lance and shield wielding Fighting type to be with a kickboxer(?) style trainer..

This isn't the first time we've seen a signature Pokemon seemingly not embody the style of a trainer and it definitely won't be the last. Honestly, the chances of Sirfetch'd being unlikely all depends on what other fighting-type Pokemon are revealed, fighting-type Pokemon that may or may not fit with Bea's style.

The idea I had for a fairy type gym might be better for a psychic type gym but I'm sure they can come up with a reason for it:

Essentially you go through what is implied to be your own brain and the puzzle is split into three parts. The first part has you follow a fake Hop through a large version of your house, it's basically like a game of hide and seek, find Hop three times, he battles you at the end and says something that's implied to either be how you feel or something he's said.

The second puzzle involves a chase with a fake Marnie down a seemingly endless road, during the chase word bubbles will pop up asking who she is, what her goal is, stuff like that. You finally stop where you first met Marnie and you both fight.

The final puzzle is a maze with a fake Bede at the end, he laughs at you the entire time. Find yourself at a dead end? He makes fun of your failure. Go down the right path? He'll try to convince you that you're going the wrong way. When you finally find him he's silent, when you beat him he calls you dumb and vanishes.

Fully disagree. They add to the experience of both games. There's very likely going to be references to the other Gym Leader counterparts. This can be used to better build up the Gym Leader backstories, lore of the various towns, etc.

To be honest, the majority of gym leaders in most of the games are a figure you see maybe once before fighting them, and then never again afterwards. Unless they're, effectively, a skin for a trainer in the battle facility.

I don't really see how it adds much to the backstory of the characters or the towns one way or the other in a way that can't be done if they aren't version exclusives.
If we're talking about gyms that can have different Gym Leaders I would much prefer something more along the lines of the Striaton trio. Since it depends on your choices in-game, or in other words increases replayability instead of encouraging people to buy two almost identical games.

Not far off. We've seen rival Green make a return as Viridian Gym Leader, Lance become Pokemon Champion, Wallace become Pokemon Champion, Caitlin become an Unova Elite Four Member and Cheren become the Aspertia Gym Leader.
Most of this occurred either in third versions or sequels set in the same region as the games debuting them, with Caitlin being the only one actually relevant to the topic because she went from Frontier Brain to Elite 4 member in two different regions and in a new gen.

Even then, it's still not as unlikely as it seems. For all we know, GameFreak probably thought... "Oh crap! We forgot a Dragon-themed trainer! How could we forget a dragon-themed trainer! We always have a dragon-themed trainer in every generation!" for Alola and decided to create Ryuki late in the game, planning a bigger role for a future game.

Considering that his/her puzzle supposedly involves a catching contest I wouldn't be surprised if Kabu will turn out to be a Bug-type specialist.

It's not a game Kate.

Do you mean Kabu? I don't think Ash for the Anime will be a Bug-type specialist or any sort of gym leader.
