Gen 8 Gym Types and Structure Speculation Thread

Everlasting

Everything stays.
Why would a gym battle need a uniform, it's not a team sport, in which a common sense of identity needs to be expressed.
The thing is, we don't know that. We don't know how much the gym formula has been changed. It could involve some kind of team identity.
And as mentioned before, dress codes can be applied to other circumstances than team identity. My best guess would be that considering gym battles seem to be very popular events that could even be aired on television (the gym is crowded with people), trainers must conform to a certain dress code. I wouldn't be able to pinpoint the reason as to why such dress code is regulated, but I'm confident we'll learn about it in due time.

-Countryside Town: Grass. The Gym is shown in the trailer and it has a leaf symbol.
-Port City: Its obviously a Water Gym.
-First Industrial City: Steel? Fire? There's gotta be a gym here. The symbol shown on the Grass gym is on a building.
-Dugtrio Wall Town- Its likely Ground considering the Dugtrio wall.
-Mushroom Forest Town- The beams look pink and the glowing mushrooms scream Fairy type Gym.
-Snowy Mountain City- The location suggests Ice, but the beams on the Gym look black, so I'd hope its Dark.
-Walled Dragon City- Could be Dragon if there is a Gym. Nothing screams Gym though in it.
-London-like City: Mixed? There is a red stadium, though it does look different.

Old dog, new tricks!
I think the industrial cities gym will be Fire as I expect GF to downplay the difficulty and give the starters a direct advantage in a Gym each.

Mushroom Forest I think will be Fairy, but I'd love another Poison gym because we haven't had a good Poison specialist in a while.

Dragon City will most likely have a gym, which leaves the 8th location possibly in the London-like City, unless they pull a Normal type trainer school style starter gym at the beginning - not what I'd expect based on the Stadium design of the others though.

Countryside Town: Grass
Port City: Water
Industrial City: Fire
Dugtrio Wall Town: Ground
Mushroom Forest Town: Fairy
Snowy Mountain City: Dark
Walled Dragon City: Dragon
London-like City: Electric or Steel

Here's the bios of my predicted Gym Masters:
Saige (Grass): Saige is a quiet, reserved, young girl. She works at the local garden and she loves nature.
Sean (Water): Sean is a professional swimmer known for his speed. He is one of the fastest swimmers in the Pokemon world.
Ferra (Steel): Ferra is the daughter of a powerful business tycoon, but she does not want to inherit her father's business, wanting to do her own thing instead.
Cole (Rock): Cole is the owner of a massive mine. He is a close friend of Steven Stone in the Hoenn region and he frequently sends him rare stones that he finds in his mine.
Tex (Poison): Tex is a scientist in training. He loves discovering new things and he hopes to become a Pokemon Professor one day.
Hailey (Ice): Hailey is a fashion model who freezes (pun intended) the competition with her eccentric style. She is on the cover of many fashion magazines in the Pokemon world.
Drakeena (Dragon): Drakeena is a princess and heir to the Dragon throne. She became a Gym Master because she does not want to be stuck inside the palace all day.
Ellie (Electric): Ellie is a hyperactive tomboy who has a distaste towards anything feminine.

I won’t be surprised if any of our gym leaders are like some of these.

Entirely random guesses
Gyms:
  1. Psychic
  2. Fighting
  3. Ghost
  4. Ground
  5. Poison
  6. Rock
  7. Ice
  8. Dark
E4
  • Grass
  • Fire
  • Water
  • Electric
  • Mutlitype Champion
Figured I'd have the first gyms be neutral to all starter types, if a Dark gym is to make it's debut it may as well be the final gym and all starter types as part of the E4 sounds fun. They could even have each starter.

Okay, I get that some people enjoy baseless speculation. But this is a whole new level. Not to be rude, but what's even the point? You know that by making such extremely specific predictions that nothing is going to be accurate, so why even bother? You might as well be making fan fiction.

I'm allowed to flesh out my predicted characters. You're just being judgemental.

You're certainly allowed to. I never said or suggested otherwise. I'm just asking what the point is. Is there something wrong with that? I promise you that no offense was intended.

I can't really see the industrial city/"Manchester" having a steel gym, since it's presumably gonna be the first one we visit and I doubt they'll want that kind of difficulty. I think it's definitely gonna be fire (which would also fit if we're gonna cycle through the start types as the first three gyms), unless they throw a curveball and make it normal or something.

Initially I thought that Gym Masters would be just gym leaders under a different name, or that it was some error in translation by some inexperienced employee (that's why they deleted the tweet). But now, I thought it'd be great if the gyms were more like, huh, gyms. I mean, all the trainers we are used to face in the gyms are students under the gym leader, right? What if in S&S the masters are there just to train young trainers, and you get the badge by defeating their Strongest Disciple.

AND THEN, during the post game you'd be able to challenge the Gym Masters for real. I mean, that'd be great because we would get more characters (the strongest disciple would be a real character and not some random joe) and it'd also contribute to the post game.

I don't want the Soccer theme to be dominant either.

I'm on board with the gyms as stadiums. I really like that. But I don't want any Pokemon-versions of Soccer Hooligans running around or stuff like that.

I like soccer, it's my favorite sport, but I just don't like it when the games start to stereotype the real world, and having a major focus on soccer in the UK certainly feels like a stereotype to me. If it's handled somewhat subtlety, like maybe just the stadiums with the option to dress up, that wouldn't be too bad, but forcing you to dress up, and maybe more wouldn't sit right with me.

I was just thinking.

Earlier, I thought that they were trying to disintegrate puzzles from gyms (and put puzzles somewhere else).

So what if we had puzzles that allowed us to normally catch Pokemon, and the challenge the gyms.

That way, the "gym puzzles" aren't only to progress to the gym leader, but you can also do other things as well.

Now, in previous games, they've already had separate puzzles, but maybe there will be a puzzles needed for the gym leaders but not in gyms.
