Gen 8 Gym Types and Structure Speculation Thread

Back when Tigers used to smoke.
Watching Gamexplain's thoughts on it, I've never notice the possible stadium on top of the crown-like tower of the fortress city. Kind of reminds me of Realgam Tower from Pokemon Colosseum.

I'd love to see a Flying-type Gym Leader, since only Johto, Hoenn, Unova and Alola had notable specialists using this type, and for him/her to be a former Sky Trainer.

From what I can tell it’s Steel/Grass/Ground/Fairy/Water/Dragon/Ice/?. The Morelull forest looks too whimsical and fairytale-like to be Bug imo. The rose stadium could be the final gym, but if it’s in what’s presumed to be the League city, I think it’s more likely it’s a postgame facility. The huddled purple buildings on the northeast side of the map look like they could be a Ghost gym.

I think that the last gym is Electric-type and in the London-like city.

It looks like it's going to be:

1. Steel
2. Grass
3. Water
4. Ground
5. Fairy
6. Ice
7. Dragon
8. ???

It honestly would be nice if we got Steel as the first gym. It would be the first time ever - for me at least - the first gym posed a legitimate challenge, especially if the main pokemon has Heatproof.

Here's hoping that the black gym on the ice area is actually dark type. The pink one inside the forest seems pretty Fairy, but I'd like it better if it's Ghost or Poison and Fairy is in the E4 instead. I guess Poison in the E4 would be fun too. I hope the brown one is Ground and not Rock, too. It has way less representation.

The industrial city could have either Fire or Steel. I'm fine with Steel, but if we're gonna get Grass and Water, I'd prefer Fire. It's really underused compared to Grass and specially Water. Like, when was the last time we got a true Fire Gym(Striaton doesn't count)? Gen 3? That's just sad.

There's a field near the castle so I'm gonna say there's a Dragon Gym there, and I guess there could be another one around the starting area? Normal, maybe?

I also want an Electric E4. It has so many Gym Leaders and yet not a single one of those.

Why are people assuming there have to be 8 gyms? There were only 4/5 trials in Alola.

My theory: those stadiums that you see scattered around the countryside are the only gyms. We know they are gyms, and they all look exactly the same — why would you think the other, very different-looking buildings are also gyms?

The typings look pretty obvious. You can trace a clear route between them (which suggests this game is probably going to be quite linear):
  1. Grass
  2. Water
  3. Dark (the gym is pretty clearly black — it's not ground or rock)
  4. Ground
  5. Fairy
The last one could also be Poison or Psychic; the colour's a bit ambiguous. Fairy fits the 'glowing mushrooms' best though.

Honestly I think the last Pokemon Gym could be something like Blue's for the simple fact of just how no Pokemon type really fits the last building.

Because seven of them have the Gym symbol on their buildings, with the exception of the Dragon Tower building.

By 'gym symbol', do you mean the half red, half blue donut? I see it on the grass gym in the video, and the red stadium in the far north city, but nowhere else. Where's the seventh?

That could be the League symbol. The red stadium probably isn't a normal gym, but the location of the 'finals' or Elite 4. It's in the very last city after all.

Note that it's also different to the gym symbol in past games. Which further makes me think they're shaking things up and we won't have 8 gyms.

I don't think that there will be a mixed type gym. We haven't had anything like that since Gen 2 (and the only reason why it did happen was because the gym leader was a rival from an old game and wouldn't make sense to be slapped with a type specialty).

But Cheren in B2/W2 became a Normal-type Gym Leader despite being a rival and using a diverse team in Black/White.

There were 7 trials in Alola, 8 in total.

1. Normal: Ilimia
2. Water: Lana
3a. Fire: Kiawe
3b. Grass: Mallow
4. Electric: Sophocles
5. Ghost: Acerola
6. Fairy: Mina
7. Dragon: no captain

In USUM you take on all 8 trials.

First off, there were seven trials in Sun/Moon, and there are eight trials as of Ultra Sun/Moon. Regardless, since we're back to gyms, it's only logical to assume that we're also back to having eight. Until suggested otherwise, it's safe to assume things will be standard.

What's up with the 3a and 3b thing? The Fire and Grass Trials were two completely separate trials.

Actually, you had to go to Fire first, then Grass.

Ah sh*t. You know what? You're right. I was thinking about the captain battles themselves.

Damn, what a screw up. lol I'm doing it over!
