Bolt the Cat
Bringing the Thunder
Isn't that kind of the point? It's like an enforced rarity value. I am regretting not playing Sun/Moon enough as I don't have all of the alolan forms to have a complete pokedex. Hence I am now playing Go and looking at the global trade on the Pokemon home app every so often to try and fill in the gaps.
I don't quite follow here. What point?
Holding onto the older games and consoles does have a legitimacy to it now. We can still, if you have all of the systems available, go from Gen 3 to the present day technically in Pokemon. That's an incredible length of time for game data to still be held. It's pretty cool. (That makes my oldest Pokemon a Sceptile, at 21 years old now I think!)
That's not the way video games work. Or at least not the way they're sold. They're constantly trying to get you to buy the latest and greatest hardware and software, for that to work you have to not need to rely on past games or else that reduces the incentive to buy the next one. In the grand scheme of things they don't care if you own the older generations of games on past hardware because they aren't being sold anymore, you can only get them second hand. Game Freak mainly only cares about people buying the Switch games, so there should be little to no reason to want the older games over the Switch games.
Also that compatibility is inevitably going to be cut off at some point when Bank and Transporter are outright shut down. The first phases of that are already happening in fact with us no longer being able to download them from the eShop, at some point (probably a few years from now) they're going to have to bring the servers offline and force you to transfer everything to Home.
