Gen 9 Pokedex - Discussion/Speculation Thread

Just heard a suggestion for a new Pokemon idea that feels almost too perfect to not some day exist.

A Fairy/Fighting line based on magical girls.
I mean, Fairy is pretty much a "magical girl" type if you look at its moves. And especially Mega Diancie looks quite a bit like Sailor Moon's Princess Serenity form.
I now Pokemon with multiple forms can be problematic, but it'd be interesting for a magical girl Pokemon to have several forms (or evolution) that are different elements (Fairy/Water, Fairy/Fire)

As to those who go "but it's not Spanish":

1) Did you even see the Luchador Octopus Wrestler in Galar?
2) Magical Girl comics and shows (including European-made ones) are actually quite popular in the Romance speaking parts of Europe.

A Super Sentai Pokemon would also be a fun concept to match this, could be a fighting type version counterpart.

I am surprised that with all of the Ghost type possessed object Pokémon, the concept of a book possessed by a spirit hasn’t been used yet. I have an idea for a trio of possessed books that aren’t Legendary and each are dual Ghost types that specialize in a form of magic. The black colored book is Ghost/Dark and represents Dark magic, a pinkish purple book that is Ghost/Psychic and is the representation of Protection and Status magic, and a white book that is Ghost/Fairy which is White or good magic. They have Signature Abilities that are named similarly to each other that powers up moves that match the books’ magic specialty and lessens the damage caused by the secondary type of the other two.

Especially as there is a Ghost specialist that is an author I'm surprised they haven't done that yet. Plus it could easily work in most regions as a common pokemon given how common books are.

That be fun actually. Like a base stage that's pure fairy. But 3 forms. One with red hair, one with blue, one with green. And depending on the hair color when they evolved you either got a Fairy/Fire, Fairy/Water, or Fairy/Grass type respectively.

And they could even give them a signature attack with an animation that resembles a typical "magical girl" attack, and depending on the evolution's secondary type, it also has a different type (or maybe a different dual typing, after all, dual-typed attacks are a thing)

I'd suggest we should get back on-topic, but the speculation thread for new Pokemon species is currently locked.
I am keeping that thread locked until we get an actually new Pokemon to discuss. Right now, it will just end up as a fakemon thread.

For now, I will tolerate everyone's Pokemon wishlists in this thread. But I will lock this thread too if it gets out of hand.

Soo what exactly is this topic about then? Like won't is "on-topic" vs "off-topic"?

I suppose now would be a good time to post what I want to see in this regional dex (which may also answer your question @paipr_christian):

I mainly tried to include the Pokemon that weren't in Gen 8, Pokemon that haven't frequently appeared in regional dexes, and a few other choices to balance typing. I haven't put a whole lot of thought into whether or not they fit the Spanish theme:

Weedle/Kakuna/Beedrill
Pidgey/Pidgeotto/Pidgeot
Venonat/Venomoth
Bellsprout/Weepinbell/Victreebel
Dratini/Dragonair/Dragonite
Sentret/Furret
Natu/Xatu
Misdreavus/Mismagius
Pineceo/Forretress
Snubbull/Granbull
Sneasel/Weavile/Sneasler
Swinub/Piloswine/Mamoswine
Skarmory
Phanpy/Donphan
Poochyena/Mightyena
Taillow/Swellow
Shroomish/Breloom
Slakoth/Vigoroth/Slaking
Ralts/Kirlia/Gardevoir/Gallade
Numel/Camerupt
Spoink/Grumpig
Trapinch/Vibrava/Flygon
Zangoose
Cacnea/Cacturne
Kricketot/Kricketune
Shinx/Luxio/Luxray
Glameow/Purugly
Patrat/Watchog
Pansage/Simisage/Pansear/Simisear/Panpour/Simipour
Blitzle/Zebstrika
Sewaddle/Swadloon/Leavanny
Sigilyph
Ducklett/Swanna
Deerling/Sawsbuck
Alomomola
Tynamo/Eelektrik/Eelektross
Druddigon
Durant/Heatmor
Scatterbug/Spewpa/Vivillon
Litleo/Pyroar

The primary purpose of this thread is to discuss/speculate about which Pokemon are returning, which won't be included, potential regional variants, the size of the dex, etc.

Speculation on non-existing Pokemon IS off-topic (on this thread at least). But as I've mentioned above, I will and have been tolerating it until we actually get an official reveal. Opening the "New Pokemon" thread could potentially just end up as a suggestion box and get clogged with fakemon concepts. Might as well just make it a "Create a Fakemon" thread if that's the case.

You can speculate on which animals, mythological/legendary creatures, cryptids, inanimate objects could potentially become Pokemon on this thread for now. But discussion on this will shift to that thread once it's opened.

Okay so this topic's for Pokemon that already exists that we went back in the dex.

The other ones for brand new Pokemon that have been revealed.

Do we have a topic for Pokemon that we want to exist?

I guess on topic I'd like to see Whismur line Trevenant line Shroomish line.

I suspect Rotom will be in these games. Rotom is often associated with the Pokedex and I suspect this will continue ( its been a thing since gen 7). The advantage of this is that Rotom makes sure there is some added type diversity amongst the types it can transform into. Its not a specifically Spanish theme but its generic enough it can make sense in any region. I don't think it'll get any new forms (much as I'd like it to) but I suspect it'll make the roster.

The disadvantage is that as a rep of those type combos it's kinda horrible. It has those types and can learn one move of each alternate secondary type.

Add to that it's forms get a 80bst stat bump, which means that even it's base combo of electric/ghost isn't as strong as it could be.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy Room and wouldn't mind it being there. I just want to see more representation of it's possible type combos, instead of it being sited as a great rep when people say they want Pokemon if one of those types.

Well they said for now we can use this topic for that.

On that topic...I finally want my Peacock Pokemon. Come on Gamfreak, I've been waiting since Pokemon Blue

I feel like this could be the time to get our prayers answered and finally get Jynx's evolution.

If it happens, I REALLY hope it is an evolution of the actual Jynx we know and not of a regional variant like they did with Farfetch'd. I love regional variants, but giving them exclusive evolutions while the regular forms are left unchanged just doesn't sit right with me. So here to hope Jynx gets the Electabuzz/Magmar treatment instead of the Mr. Mime one.

Venonat and Venomoth definitely deserve to be in the regional Dex for Gen 9. They are the only normal Pokémon from Gen I to never be in a Dex outside of Kanto and Johto. Mew is Mythical and thus has no reason to be part of a regional Dex outside of Kanto and Johto. The rest have made it into at least one after Gen 2. It’s really odd that even Mewtwo made it outside of Kanto.

It would be interesting to know if there's any particular reason for that.
Personally I find them forgettable and never even noticed that they weren't in any dex except Kanto/Johto.

Though it'd be interesting to give them a regional variant. Maybe Bug/Psychic?

Or a Bug/Dark or Bug/Ghost variant fashioned after the death's-head hawkmoth:

Probably due to lack of popularity. Venonat is probably one of the least popular Kanto Dex Pokemon so there was no rush to include it.

Most of the Kanto Dex Pokemon that were left out of every non-Johto regional dex for ages was some of the less ones (Paras, Bellsprout, Drowzee, Mankey, etc.). The only major exception is Meowth, which is a major anime mascot yet didn't reappear in a regional dex until Alola (and even then it appeared as an Alola variant, not the iconic Kantonian Meowth).
