Was anyone put off a little bit by how...I dont know...robotic...the main character seems? It looks like s/he has one permanent emotion, smile, and it gets somewhat creepy. No matter what happens, they always seem to have that stupid generic grin on their face. I never see their eyes change, or brows change or just...any really expression at all. I dont remember X/Y being that one-dimensional for its main character's emotional range. The previous ones it was unnoticeable since you were always a sprite seen from above or really had just eyes and thats it, but now that there's more detail, it seems weird that everyone has facial expressions and emotions other than the main character. I halfway expected a twist at the end to reveal the main character was actually a Ditto the whole time.

That kind of bothered me, too, at first, but then I started to find it rather amusing when other characters would look shocked, horrified, or elated, and the main character would just be standing there with this blank, almost dead-eyed look of contentment on his/her face. There were a couple instances where the main character's expression actually changed, though, but even then, those expressions were never as animated (for lack of a better word) as other characters'.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed. It was really weird when something would have everyone shocked and the main character would just be staring off into space like he was either extremely high or completely dead inside.

I think that seals it. Main character = Ditto confirmed. M. Night Shymalan twist; the Ditto is actually under the influence of 'Instruct' from a hyper intelligent Oranguru in the shadows.

Does anyone find it kinda weird that Lusamine dissed the player for putting Pokemon in the PC at the same time as Mohn giving benefits to those Pokemon for the same person who Lusamine dissed?

Also, I found a weird plot hole. In Heahea city, I went to the Tourist centre and one of the people in there promotes Poke Pelago. Considering this, it'd be rational for Poke Pelago to be popular. However, if this was true, it's be highly likely that Lillie, Gladion and Lusamine would hear about Mohn, the guy who runs it and is also their family relation. But they don't know. So why does this person in the tourist centre promote it if it's rare?

It actually quite annoyed me tbh. Not sure why GameFreak would go this route. Maybe they were expecting us to be having the emotional reactions and the main character avatar was just there by obligation.

And about main character = Ditto, I remember even Ditto being able to have some emotional reactions, so not sure where this idea comes from.

Hapu - best character in Sun Moon. Hapu has it together.

And yes, I bet we see Lillie in the Gen 4 remake games - I'm calling GEN 4 remakes as the next two games. I bet she becomes a trainer and is the champion you have to defeat in the end.

TBH, I never thought about that, but now that you mention it, I suppose it is kind of weird. But at the same time, Lusamine is a bat*** insane woman with a twisted concept of beauty and an obsession with a jellyfish who cryogenically freezes PokémonI didn't take her criticisms too seriously.

Er...I'm trying to think of an in-game reason for that. Perhaps Poké Pelago is only well-known in Heahea City. Or perhaps the person in the tourist center is promoting it because it's actually not that popular, and they are increase its popularity. But none of those explain why the fact that the owner of Poké Pelago has the same name as Lusamine's missing husband hasn't caught someone's attention. You would think someone at the Aether Foundation would get wind of that and mention it to Lusamine or Wicke or one of the other Aether higher-ups.

It actually quite annoyed me tbh. Not sure why GameFreak would go this route. Maybe they were expecting us to be having the emotional reactions and the main character avatar was just there by obligation.

That's what I assumed--we, the players, are supposed to be having the emotional reactions, and the main character is just a stand in for us. It might have worked better if the camera didn't zoom in on the main character's expressionless face during some of those scenes, but like I said, I started to find that funny as the game went on--especially since the main character's blank face is such a stark contrast to Hau's almost overexpressiveness.

Olivia's design is quite possible one of the most fanservicy designs in a kid's media I've ever seen

Remember Lorelei?

According to TV Tropes, that became an early meme for this generation.

I don't think it's weird at all--considering Lusamine (initially) missed Mohn very, very much, the mere thought of putting Pokémon into the PC might have reminded her of him. Unless Mohn started doing PC-related stuff after he disappeared. I don't remember the sequence of things.

As for why Mohn isn't more popular, my guess is, simply put, either they don't know who he is, that he's supposed to be famous, or that he's the husband of the head of the Aether Foundation. How many famous people might you have met without recognizing them simply no one told you they're some famous person?

What do you guys think of the elite four typings this gen? I personally really liked them, as before this gen there were 6 types left to be used (Normal, Grass, Electric, Flying, Rock and Fairy) and this gen covered 2 of them (Rock and Flying).

I'm also REALLY happy that there wasn't a Dark-type elite four member, as this meant that we got a Dark-type gym leader equivalent instead.

Also, has anyone noticed how there is no Ice-type specialist in Alola, after it being specialised in in all 6 previous generations? I suppose this was supported by the fact that Alola is a tropical region.

This means that there are now just 4 types left unspecialised in:
Normal
Grass
Electric
Fairy

It was nice to get some new types used in the Elite Four, albeit, we got another Fighting and Ghost type.

Hoenn was tropical too but had an Ice specialist. Not sure why they decided against it this time but I'm fine with it. I wouldn't have mind it being in again so long as it wasn't 7th gym or above yet again.

How much do you bet that next gen uses all four unused types?

I doubt it, they probably feel no rush to use them all. It took however long for Dark to be used outside of Elite Four and even then it wasn't technically a gym(And if Nanu wasn't a lazy bum it would have ended up as an Elite Four type anyways).

I was kind of surprised to see the Ghost-type get a female specialising in it again (four women in a row - Phoebe, Fantina, Shauntal and Acerola).

I then thought to myself that Lana was another female Water-type specialist, finally, after so many generations of male Water-type specialists.

I feel the next Ghost-type specialist will be male.

It would be nice if next gen there was a male Fairy-type elite four member called Sylvester.

There has also been a necessity for them to put an Electric-type specialist in every game so, after so many Electric-type gyms it would be nice to keep up with the theme but instead have one in the elite four.

Just a male specialising in fairy types is enough for me. We need more representation in these games!

Speaking of representation, I really want some openly homosexual/bisexual characters at some point....

Have you seen this artwork? Alola is shown to have a type specialist for every type except Ice.

When I first saw Acerola, I assumed she was actually a lot older than she looked. Like she was in her thirties or something, but was just tiny. She certainly came off to me as quite mature or having adult responsibilities

Honestly, I don't think Game Freak even cares about what types have and haven't been used by gym leaders and Elite Four. I think they build their regional dex, and then from there decide what types would best be utilized by gym leaders and Elite Four, given the available Pokemon. It makes much more sense to do things that way, rather than forcing themselves to make an Elite Four of a certain type, even when the available Pokemon of that type wouldn't make for the best Elite Four.
