We know that he was trained by Bruno, so that's something. :p

I would like to know why tate and liza are psychic leaders and much like sabrina, Will and lucian there's nothing connecting to psychic typing. Caitlin and Oympia were the only one who i believe in being psychic type specialists.

You don't have to be psychic yourself in order to train Psychic-types. Just like how not every Rock-type master has to be a hiker or a miner.

Sabrina does have psychic powers, though.

Lucian was a brainiac who liked to read, which fits from a thematic standpoint.

Will was just peculiar, though.

Except Kingdra isn't a 3rd gen Pokemon, so it's not really an appropriate main.

Now that you mention it doesnt fit as a main, but we had magneton before.

Also challenge wise ill take kingdra any day.

I wouldn't mind a little more background on the gym leaders but I REALLY want more background on the elite four. The Hoenn elite four were really forgetable to me the only one who stood out was Drake and that was because of his appearance in the anime and his design.

To each their own. I remember the Hoenn E4 most out of all, mainly because Emerald was my first game. I remember Drake the most, as you said, but because of his backstory with how he was rescued by dragon-type Pokemon when his ship was sinking (he was a sailor). Sidney also sticks in my mind because, now that I look at him today, he reminds me of Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad. :p Phoebe and Glacia were rather forgettable though.

So Sidney sticks on your mind because he remembers you fo a character from a series that came much later than Sidney creation? yeah hes forgettable, I understand your emotional conection since it was your first game but from most people that played from 1st gen Hoenn had probably the most forgettable cast of characters, I hope the remakes make them more interesting like others are saying.

I forgot that Drake was saved by dragons and I'm just remembering Phoebe's from Mt.Pyre. It might have just been to long since I've played gen 3 to remember the exact details but either way more detail to their characters couldn't hurt. I do really like their designs especially the new ones for Sidney and Phoebe.

Au contraire. I have played the games from 1st gen but 3rd gen is still my favorite and the one I remember most. But I still think you're right. I think in general, 3rd gen was forgettable to a lot of people. That won't be the case in a few months however :D

I remember water and trhumpeths...I honestly breed tutored in esmerald played in Leaf green.

I've played every generation from beginning to now and gen 3 is my all time favorite region.

But the Hoenn elite 4 could stand to use some characterization. We know about Phoebe's family, Sidney has a cool design, Drake was saved by dragons, and I literally had to look Glacia up because I forgot her name. Two out of four of them we know nothing about. It really couldn't hurt to give them a little character boost.

It may seem irrelevant but for me music helps a lot to remember some gen's leaders or E4. besides the iconic kanto leaders (which had awesome music), jotho's gym leader/E4 original music is stuck to me, as it is my 2nd favorite leader music (after the mindblowingly awesome kanto leaders remix from the same games) and besides the really hard challenges i had with every leader besides falkner and pryce (i was a kid back then gimme a break) and the E4 was not easy either because i didn't grind and just went foward even after loosing. Those are one of the most memorable batch of leaders/E4 and the music certainly helped.

hoenn's leader song is still my least favorite so far. It's lacking something, it comes as weak to me. There's still some leaders you just don't forget (like flannery) but i agree, hoenn has one of the most forgettable roster of leaders. E4 IMO is a totally different matter. For the challenges they brought to me (i was around 10) they stayed with me and the awesome pre-battle and battle songs make me always remember them. sydney's swords dancing absol, phoebe's walling and very strong moves spamming dusclops and that sableye with no weaknesses, sheer cold from glacia's walrein, every single dragon of drake, these are some of the most memorable to me. There may be no backstory to them (or a little in some) but they stayed with me until now.

Sinnoh had a terrible gym leader/E4 roster and the music didn't help. It was certainly an improvement from the hoenn's song but having no E4 distinct music hurts. Luckily, cynthia has a beautiful and cool pre-battle piano song which brings that "epic" feel back. But besides gardenia, volkner and aaron (and crasher wake, which is only memorable because he's so annoying) everyone else is bland and i don't have any memories from them because those were all easy (bertha was a joke, lucian likewise, flint was basically a clown to start with).

unova and kalos are kind of the same. With cool battle songs back and with some truly evil guys (lenora and clay i am looking at you) i remember most of the cast. Besides that, i think jotho has the most memorable leaders/E4. hoenn has the least memorable leaders and sinnoh has the least memorable E4.

It would be nice, although given that they didn't even bother to give most of the new Kalosian characters any significant characterization, I could easily see it not happening.

To be honest, the only Elite 4 I really remember is Drake, and that was only because of his appearance in the anime.

In fact, most of the Gen III characters I remember having personalities were based on their anime appearances, which is also part of the reason why I was so against Tabitha and Shelly's redesign at first. IF it wasn't for those appearances, I'm sure I would've practically forgotten about them just like with Matt & Courtney

I look forward to May and Wally being expanded a bit, too. Wally was always annoying to me - which is remarkable since the first rival I had was back in Pokemon Red and "Gary/Blue" was wafer-thin as far as characters go. Wally getting a Mega Evolution might help. I hope May gets to use one, as well, although it will probably wind up being a starter pokemon.

Lucian was a brainiac who liked to read, which fits from a thematic standpoint.

If you go to the Battle Zone in Diamond/Pearl(not in Platinum, in Platinum there is Cyrus' grandfather instead), you can find Lucian's grandfather's house, and there are books on psychic powers there. So even though he wasn't actually psychic, he was studying the concept.

Will's just an illusionist, and most of his team are not serious Psychic-types, but rather the tricky and goofy gimmick fodder.

Edit: In terms of the main topic, I wonder if they will switch out Winona's signature Pokémon with something else. They switched out Sidney's Absol because your opposite gender rival in X/Y had their Mega Absol, so I wouldn't be surprised if they changed out Winona's signature with something else, like Tropius if it won't become the de facto Mega of the opposite gender rival.

Tropius love is always appreciated. That or swellow, using the guts set with item. But who am i kidding, even the leaders aren't smart as to use sets like that. there's also the crappy protect spam peliper and skarmory which is a staple of steven. I would rather see swellow as winona's ace but tropius would be cool too.

I hope they don't replace Skarmory. But I agree with Swellow/Tropius being the new ace - even though I would like it more if they just stick with Altaria.

Now that we have Mega Rayquaza, I feel that the villain teams's importance will be undermined and the game will be too cluttered.

Also, so now we know the folklore says that groundon and kyogre absorbed energy. I wish the story would be dark as Godzilla.

They always were the plot device to just awaken groudon/kyogre. After they awake, the leaders just cop out and cower in fear. Its interesting though, in the rayquaza lore, it's "the people" that are mentioned. I know it wouldn't show up in the game but a reference to some sort of spiritual leader from the past would be a nice addition to the lore of the games IMO.
