I never understood why they renamed the main characters. Brendan and may was perfectly fine as it was, why switch the names?

but weren't Calem and Serena referred to as "Xavier" and "Yvonne" is a lot of XY pre-release stuff? this may be the same case (Orlando and Anna), and their "real"/"official" names will still be Brendan and May.

Ethan stayed the same from GSC to HGSS. Kris changed to Lyra, but that's because Lyra was a brand-new character herself, not just a re-design.

I'm still not quite sure if they are renamed. Hilbert and Hilda were called Blair and Whitlea in pre-BW and Calem and Serena were called Xavier and Yvonne pre-XY. Those match the first letter of the games' name, as do Orlando and Anna.
Then again we already know that Brendan and May are called just that, so it's a bit weird if the names are just placeholders.

I think Anna & Orlando are just the players names, while Brendan and May are the canon names. Just like Serena and Calem are the canon names but Xavier and Yvonne were the player names, and so on. I don't know why they do it, but they do.

not Brendan nope. Since female rival and Steven calls him Orando. So it stands reason what May will have her name changed as well.

This is simply the same case with XY where they initially called them Xavier and Yvonne. Y'know... X and Y.
Orlando and Anna is for Omega and Alpha.

The Trainer data still lists them as Brendan and May.

I always thought they were just the lead testers' character names. I never noticed that they were named after the first letters in the games' titles, but it makes sense from a promotional standpoint.

I sure hope Wallace uses underpants, I don't know if this is an issue around here but his metamorphosis is something that still shocks me but makes so much sense at the same time, the scarf stands for Milotic's hair, for instance

LOL! xD I think his outfit is a wetsuit with revealing cut-outs, considering he's a performing artist who does a lot of water-themed productions. Or, he wears a Borat-esque mankini under his clothes, which is a disturbing thought.

Even if the names are changed, is it really something to get wound up about? Is it really annoying? It's such a minute aspect of the game. Hardly affects it. If anything I like the small hat-tip to Groudon's motif in Orlando.

Well, given that:

May/Brendan, as we saw in the OR/AS demo's character roster data.

I don't think there should be much question about what the names for the rivals are going to be. They will be named Brendan/May as rivals, I don't imagine that being wrong.

I don't think any of the previous posts imply that it is a big deal. People are just curious which names they wil have. I don't really see the problem discussing it.
I'm pretty sure they will still be named Brendan and May though. Given filenames from the datamining, and older traditions.

Roxanne's design looks more like a student than a teacher or they maybe changed her position and Brawly's design is more fitting, now he looks like a professional diver.
