• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.
  • Hi all. We had a couple of reports of people's signatures getting edited etc. in a bad way. You can rest assured this wasn't done by staff and nobody has compromised any of our databases.

However, remember to keep your passwords secure. If you use similar passwords to elsewhere which has been accessed, people and even bots may be able to access your account.

We always recommend using unique passwords, and two-factor authentication if you are able. Make sure you're as secure as possible

let's be honest, this is what we would all do if we could time travel

i mean, yeah, there's a lot of **** you could do. kill hitler, meet someone really smart, but at the end of the day, the first thing we would do is acquire infinite money.

If I had a time machine, I would rather try to figue out a way to get more time rather than more money. Too much of my life wasted, I would rather try and find a way to get it back without canging who I am.

It's a bit of a conundrum.

I disagree because, as John Madden pointed out, inflation. Besides, wealthiness as of late doesn't appeal to me. Remember, the more you have for yourself, the less there is for others. And sure, you can fully embrace capitalism and make as much as possible like the top 1% of the U.S., but how much of that money do you really need? I always say that if I made $100 million every year, I would donate about $90 million to charities, programs, and other things that could use the investment, because who actually needs $100M/year to live?

Time Travel is travelling through the space-time continuum. Use it several times, and you'll cause a rift. Might as well put all your money into your bank account, then travel a thousand years and re-open your bank account, like Phillip J. Fry did. Living in the future won't be so bad, except for the unknown dialect and language and extraterrestrials now living alongside humans and whatnot. Or you can just go back in time, have your parents or grandparents invest all their money on Apple, and get billions today. It doesn't guarantee that that Apple will become the same Apple today though, as you've created a different timeline where anything can happen.

Since we're talking about something as wild as time travel, the recent data from teleportation seems cool. I thought they just deleted your atoms and molecules, and simply gathered identical atoms and molecules around the designated place to duplicate an exact copy of you, but now they're able to move and retain atoms across 3 meters. 3m isn't exactly worthy of Star Trek level teleportation, but it's progress. And they're also able to transfer data, so they could also transfer data from your brain. If an accident happens, and your original body died, at least your brain will be copied so that your fake copy will think it's the real deal.

This was probably the most interesting post I've ever read in this thread and I thank you for that.

I see what you did there. But even if you did it, timing is important.

That said, time travel in general causes its own set of problems, since you never know what will change in the future based on what you alter in the past. Unintended consequences and all.

this was hilarious, just sayin'. And after reading this, if I had a 1-use-only time machine then it only makes sense to use it to kill Hitler (probably when he's in jail writing Mein Kumpf).

YES, this is what I would do. Zazie gets 5 Meowmeowbeanz.

Very simply, all you would have to do is go to a time in the future where peace flows throughout the universe and aging, food, money, and the like have been removed as worries, due to an infinite number of resources to go around, and the creation of a machine that stops the general flow of time within your body, preserving it forever. Due to time going on forever and a guarantee that every possible scenario that could happen happens, then this will eventually happen. Even if a cosmic catastrophe happens and the universe turns into a giant black hole that leads to a shredder of worlds and stars, destroying the universe forever, it would happen in a different dimension of time.

$100M does seen like a lot of money. Most people can live their whole life earning way much less than a $5M, and still be happy. Of course, if you have $100M, you wouldn't be just a regular Joe anyways. You'd either be a successful criminal or a celebrity or a politician or just an insanely successful businessman/movie director/etc. And you'd want your own private jet, yacht, huge arse mansion, a garage full of imported cars, maids all over the got dang mansion, and several beach houses all over the world, among others.

And why kill Hitler so early? We all know he's an extremely bad person that lead to the killing of millions of Jews and hundreds of thousands of other non Jews, but he also did some good things. Just go search them up on Google. You'll find several. Best to just leave history alone.

Hitler's "good things" basically amounted to secretly building up his country for another war, I don't know why everyone has to say that line.

I think the bad more than outweighs the good....

Eh, the best things Hitler did during his tenure was that through his leadership he was able to raise the Germans out of poor economic conditions stemming from the aftermath of WWI and the Great Depression and essentially "unite" the Germans via a strong nationalistic movement and government; something his predecessors (The Weimar Republic) failed at miserably. But yes, the bad heavily outweighs the bad when focusing on the case study of Hitler. It's undisputed that his aggressive foreign policy spurred on what is now known as World War II which would lead to a fragmented, economically destabilized Germany. That and he systematically orchestrated one of the biggest acts of genocide in the history of the World, much like his once-ally Stalin. In a nutshell, Hitler was able to do a couple of good things that brought Germany back into the fold of European prowess, but his own personal agenda, coupled with his poor war-time stratagems and war-time management brought Germany back down below sealevel. Hitler definitely was one of the most intriguing, horrifying and enigmatic figures of the 20th century.

Hitler would have been a great leader if it wasn't for the whole wanting to kill basically every type of people thing. Unfortunately he did that, so it really just makes him an *******.

No. No I wouldn't. I'd be happy with a decent-sized house for a decent-sized family, maybe 1 houseworker, 2 cars, and no beaches. I mean who the heck needs a beach?

I know people always say: "Well, if I had this much money, I'd donate it to such and such." But come on, wealth is one of the most corrupting influences there is. If you actually got 100 million dollars, i'm sure the story would be much different.

It's an influence to those who don't understand that money is not unlimited and what you take is what can be given.

No one can deny the bad heavily outweighs the good, but the dude did say he's hypothetically go back in time to kill Hitler when he was still a relatively unknown dude in jail writing Mein Kampf. He at least did a few positive actions in his reign, so why kill him before those events happened? And even then, time travel is a tricky thing. One example, preventing WWII might inexplicably cause your great grandparents to not meet each other, thus no you today. You'd be changing history dramatically by stopping him. Whether that means changing that future into a better or worse one, we don't know. But again, it's best to just leave history alone, and why I'm personally not fond of time travel stories in media.

Like I said, most people don't even need that much money. However, those with that much money will most likely WANT to buy a better house, a whole bunch of cars, and private luxuries. I don't keep up with people with net worths up to billions of dollars though, so I wouldn't know how rich people spend their money.

Hitler had like 100 assassination attempts on him, I guarantee half of those were from time travelers. Hitler was just good at not getting assassinated and nothing else.
