• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.
  • Hi all. We had a couple of reports of people's signatures getting edited etc. in a bad way. You can rest assured this wasn't done by staff and nobody has compromised any of our databases.

However, remember to keep your passwords secure. If you use similar passwords to elsewhere which has been accessed, people and even bots may be able to access your account.

We always recommend using unique passwords, and two-factor authentication if you are able. Make sure you're as secure as possible

I almost feel like subjecting them to the debate forum would be better, but on the other hand, that might be too cruel.

It's really unfortunate that the debate forum has this perception, but it doesn't just exist there. Me and my friend started attending this popular philosophy club in Seattle a few weeks back after meeting eachother previously at a gathering for humanists of Washington. What I can tell you is that the same animus exists in those circles towards people that refer to themselves as freethinkers/philosophers in an unironic way. I even thought like this before. I was hesitant to join the meetings because my own experiences with others that fancied themselves as intellectuals were usually that they ended up being pretentious blow hards that don't grasp the concept of intellectual humility.

Maybe it shouldn't even be called the "debate" forum. Maybe, it should be radically restructured as a dumping ground to talk about really controversial and complex issues. You could name the section "Deep sh*t" and change the culture there from Internet one upsmanship to mutual inquiry. I don't know, I could just be blowing smoke here.

I actually like this idea. A lot of other boards have a "serious discussion" type of section, too. And a lot of them don't call them "debate." And a lot of them have sane, measured conversation with only a minimum of mental masturbation. /keeps the big pretentious words because of alliteration

Coughing sucks.

Coughing for three days straight sucks.

Coughing for three says straight that your voice box just gets completely shot whenever you try to use anything other than a soft indoor voice sucks.

You might want to get it checked. I got bronchitis last May in high school, and I was coughing for about 2 weeks straight. It was hard to talk, and I'm glad it didn't get any worse

So Tony Hawk 5 came out today and people are saying it's ****

it came out with a patch bigger than the game itself, which it REQUIRED in order to play, and it's still a glitchy mess. i am so glad the games industry is so passionate about quality control.

Anyone else hyped about halloween. It's been a while since I have cared, but I am giving it my all this year. Trying to have some halloween movie nights.

tumblr's halloween fetish has pretty much killed any semblance of hype i could have for the holiday

Well they could just want to only have the real game out on the release day, since so many games are getting out early. The idea isn't bad, but in practice you have to make it work.

It's an Activision game that started out as a mobile game turned console game, has had little to no media exposure, every single piece of media pre-release made the game look awful, and it's full $60. I wouldn't even be surprised if the Transformers game next week sucks arse like the Korra game last year did.

Well Korra wasn't a bad game for the time and budget put into it, Platinum is just good at turning those dumpster fires into something passable.

I can feel you there. I like halloween camp, but the way tumblr does it is just tacky. Fortunately I haven't seen much of it yet.

I am also glad I will probably be able to avoid most of the "quirky kid" halloween favorites for my movie nights. After voting, Rocky Horror picture show and Nightmare before christmas didn't get enough votes to win and I am so glad for it. The most popular were Army of Darkness and Elvira Mistress of the Dark.

I forget who but I remember seeing a lot of people excited for TPS 5, saying that it was gonna be great.

Looks like those people are now eating crow.

It's been nice and cool outside the last two days. I like fall weather more than summer. This was a very humid summer up here in Michigan and I sure as heck won't miss it. The only sucky thing about fall is it doesn't last very long....
