It mainly comes down to the "free speech" argument, but advertisers don't like that stuff and reddit probably needs a lot of money to operate.

^pretty much. reddit avoided banning ANYTHING for the longest time except for the few that got mass media attention (jailbait and creepshots, possibly more) because of the free speech argument, and now that they're trying to become profitable they're realizing they need to get rid of some of the more awful parts of it in order for advertisers to consider using reddit, since they can't really sell their data like a lot of other companies do. of course, the problem is they've let it go for so long that any teensy attempt at enforcing any sort of rules is met with extreme opposition from the crazy libertarian /r/undelete types.

idk it'll definitely be interesting on what happens next. i'm betting on trp and its offshoots being the next group to go and that will cause a massive wave of anger

Seems like most of the controversial subreddits have gone to some site called Voat. As for the Red Pill, i'm not sure if that one will get banned based on the new terms laid out by Reddit. Although that sub is particularly horrible. Actually had to search TRP to find out what it stood for (not good at acronyms). I'll consider it a good thing that I haven't heard of it despite being a member of reddit for almost 3 years.

voat crashed from too many people trying to go and people got mad at that site too when they banned cp from their site after paypal basically told them they had to. and thus they learned firsthand why certain things are universally banned..

trp i admit is a bit on the borderline in terms of actually being banned under the policy. it depends on how loosely they apply their definitions since i have seen those people quite often try to spread their crappy ideology and pick fights with people, but they certainly were not at the level of ct and fph. i do think they have a very high chance of being "quarantined" though under those definitions, which is kind of a crappy excuse to sweep things under the rug and will probably implode soon too, but it'll be funny while it lasts

I imagine it will end somewhat like this http://i.imgur.com/MIrVxKE.png since it seems to be the current trend. I imagine Reddit's ongoing situation is good for chaos lovers.

Voat is to Reddit what Reddit was to Digg.

And as for what gets banned it all depends on what the money wants. Remember TV Tropes had to delete all their anime porn stuff and troper tales to keep getting google ads, and even that was met with heavy opposition.

Eh don't remember that. Then again, i'm not on the internet that much to pay attention to something like that. I trust your info though. Can't say I ever went to Digg either. All i remember is that they were acquired by BetaWorks.

my only problem is that reddit's being very selective in what they ban, so far it seems to be if the admins don't particularly care for it or if it sets up bad pr. wouldn't be surprised if kia/tia/the like are either banned or "quarantined" (better than being banned i guess. still wondering why they didn't do this to the loli stuff, but that's a whole seperate thing) in the next wave.

i was too late for digg ;;

If tia/kia were banned nothing of value would be lost but I don't really think they will be. I haven't seen them harass people on reddit itself and for now that seems to be what they're going by. I do agree it's a little fuzzy but ct has had a very long history on reddit (used to be great apes and they left because the top mod there was gay and thus a "sjw" which is the most hilarious thing ever) spreading racist junk all over the place

Thank you for your in-depth insight, that post provided so much value to this thread.

Clearly you don't.

i see what you're saying, but i don't personally remember ct/great apes/the like going out of their sub to harass others. you've also got stuff like srs (and srd to a lesser extent) that the admins are opting to not ban, but as far as i'm aware have harassed/witch-hunted/etc...

my thought process on kia/tia getting banned (probably more kia) is that, for the most part, the admins don't seem to agree with those subs. one minor step out of line (or admins just no longer wanting them there) and it wouldn't be surprising to see them gone.

Ct harassed the users on /r/blackladies and orobably other subs multiple times. Theyre gross cesspits that don't belong on a site that is even trying to be decent. Srs is so inactive it's hilarious that it's still being used as reddit's boogeyman but both srs and srd have strict rules against brigading and actively enforce them (srs posts vote totals for easy proof, srd requires np links and occasionally sets up old threads as bait to catch people). Comparing them to a bunch of crying reactionary manbabies who get mad when they lose their toys is laughable.

ah, didn't know about that ct thing. i don't really use srd/srs/any meta subs so about all meta information i get comes from /all and is biased in one way or another.

that's why i prefer small/medium subs because they're typically not affected by the meta nonsense that happens all the time (now more than ever), bar stuff like the blackout.

Does anyone know where I can stream the GOP debate tonight? You can't legally watch it unless you have a cable subscription, and that's grade A ********.

There's a few places I can't list here for piracy reasons, but I'm loving all the crashing and burning here.
