Man, I did not realize "Gangsta's Paradise" was a 90s song. I'm sure the first time I heard it was in the 2000s, but I also wasn't listening to gangsta rap in '95, so I might be younger than the demographic this movie is aiming at...? Still, I would associate Sonic more with hard rock music, like "Live and Learn" or whatever. But I don't remember any early Sonic commercials, either. And even if they were really determined to go with a rap song, there had to be a better choice than "Gangsta's Paradise", like... well, the only old rap songs I can think of offhand are "Rapper's Delight" and "Bust a Move", both of which predate Sonic and fit almost as poorly as "Gangsta's Paradise".

I'm not, like, super knowledgeable about a lot of old rap, either. I mean, I've heard Loc-ed After Dark and Raising Hell and those are both classic 80s albums no matter what genre they are. I didn't really know "Gangsta's Paradise" was a 90s thing either, though, so there you go. I suppose the song might not be a good choice for it, but it's the right style, I guess, if it's aiming to be a super old-style Sonic movie. I do agree that after the leap to 3D, it's much easier to associate Sonic with that kind of fast... let's be real, when I think modern Sonic, I totally think buttrock. I kind of blame "Fist Bump" for this -- you know, the theme to Sonic Forces, a game that existed, but only just. Maybe something that feels like "Gangsta's Paradise" but lighter? Like, my thoughts are sitting in a type of real estate that I don't think even exists. Maybe this was a doomed endeavor from the start. Making a good film in this instance sure seems like it was

Also, I'm not up on which Sonic-verse is which. Seems like they keep trying to re-invent it and failing over and over and over. The fans hate it, but it still sells, I guess. The only post-Genesis Sonic game I can remember playing is The Secret Rings or w/e, which was okay in the context of learning how to blow through the courses as fast as possible (albeit hampered by the frivolous Wii motion controls).

Oh, they definitely do, and sweet god do people hate-buy that **** in d r o v e s. Basically, the Sonic Adventure games were edgier, had more plot, and had humans who weren't just Dr. Robotnik in them. Eventually culminating in Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic '06, both of which are some of the most ludicrous games of all time.

On the subject of video games, they just don't do openings like they used to, do they? I've never even played it, but I'm sort of obsessed with Chrono Cross's opening, and Final Fantasy VIII's is also a classic for me. I like some of the anime-type openings in the Tales and Atelier series, but they don't segue into the game with quite the oomph that some of the classic ones do. I dunno, maybe it was more the dichotomy between the FMVs and the normal graphics that made them so epic.

The graphics-quality bump between regular and FMV graphics doesn't really exist anymore. There was a unique response to noticing the quality of the visuals change in a game like Final Fantasy IX that is just Not a Thing anymore. I don't even think the people who do PS1-style fake-retro stuff do that.

If I open a video on Instagram but do not press play, does it count as a viewer for the video's account? Will it leave track of my account (assuming I am logged in while I'm doing it)?

Congratulations!

I'm doing ok. Been looking to getting back into learning more about coding myself.

Thanks. A friend of mine wants to get into coding, but he's a lazy guy, so a friend and I have started to learn as well. We've just begun with Python. It seems simple enough thus far. I'm not even sure if our lazy friend has started yet.

If I open a video on Instagram but do not press play, does it count as a viewer for the video's account? Will it leave track of my account (assuming I am logged in while I'm doing it)?

I didn't even realize that you had to hit play. It always automatically begins for me. I assume it counts if you viewed even a second of the video play.

Not great, actually. I just found out that someone I thought I was tight with got married, and I wasn't even invited to the wedding. I mean, I guess it's my fault for wanting even a small courtesy like that... but whatever. Am I disappointed? Sure. Am I hurt? Maybe a little. Am I surprised? Not in the least. Whatever. I'm over it.

And here's my secondary post I always make when I come to this thread, which is totally unrelated to the first part: LOVE IS A LIE! It's just a chemical reaction in your head to make you reproduce! And buy Hallmark cards! Wake up sheeple!

P.S. - Who thought it was a good idea to put "Gangsta's Paradise" on that Sonic trailer? Or so I wondered, until I saw that it was made by the producers who brought us the critically-acclaimed The Fast and the Furious series.

I would've invited everyone here if I had remembered of sppf's existence for even a second when I (I) planned the thing. I'll invite everyone to our divorce proceedings though, whenever that happens. You can all be character witnesses or whatever happens during those types of things.

I guess I am a little late to the thread as always, but to answer the question Vernikova asked on the last page:

No weddings for me, but I did move in with someone I kind of have a thing with. I guess that's a big deal. Seeing her ex too. Unusual, but no one has any issue with it. Both of them are helping me learn to DJ and want make music with me. So I guess I am doing pretty ok.

I really need to listen to more Rap. I like it, but I realized I have never really listened through an entire rap album, like ever. And I need to fix that.

I haven't posted here in a long time. I remember when GCT was active. Heck, I remember watching the GCT thread die twice due to people trolling and spamming. Spammers took over that one summer. It was a mess.

Anyways, I'm loving this weather. It's in the 80's yay!

I kind of get where you're going, but I also don't listen to enough rap to have any practical suggestions. Most of what I do listen to is a bit more modern, introspective-type of stuff that doesn't fit (think Rhymesayers). And I'd never heard the term "buttrock" before, but looking it up, that's exactly what I associate Sonic with, too.

Oh, they definitely do, and sweet god do people hate-buy that **** in d r o v e s. Eventually culminating in Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic '06, both of which are some of the most ludicrous games of all time.

I didn't even know that there were different Sonic-verses until I watched a bunch of Sonic Boom clips. Surprising to me is that it actually seems to be well-liked by fans, which is the first Sonic thing I've heard that about in forever (though I guess it's worth mentioning that this applies only to the show; apparently the Sonic Boom games are in the same wheelhouse as most of their recent releases).

The graphics-quality bump between regular and FMV graphics doesn't really exist anymore. That's definitely true. Still, most of the recent video game openings I can think of off the top of my head are a lot "softer", if you will, than they used to be. Like, maybe it's more about the lack of action, I guess? Just seems like instead of you hitting the start button and seeing a big fight or whatever, it opens on the main character in a peaceable situation. But now that I write it out, I'm realizing that there isn't even a start button on modern consoles (unless you count 3DS) -- so Not a Thing anymore sounds accurate. (And I'm also now wondering if it's more of a Square thing, since the PS2 Kingdom Hearts games also had that kind of intro, even without the graphic boost. I haven't played KH3/FFXV yet to know if they're still doing it.)

I would've invited everyone here if I had remembered of sppf's existence for even a second when I (I) planned the thing. I'll invite everyone to our divorce proceedings though, whenever that happens. You can all be character witnesses or whatever happens during those types of things.

Wow, a simple, "Not going to invite internet strangers," would have sufficed, but instead you go out of your way to insult all of us. I don't know if I'm impressed or just hurt (again).

Anyway, I'll look forward to that, so go ahead and RSVP me yes. When it's my turn to speak, I'll say, "Your Honor, for over 10 years, I've posted on the same internet message board as the defendant, but --" "This isn't a trial, there's no defendant, and therefore no witnesses, so why are you even speaking?" "BUT I WASN'T EVEN INVITED TO THE WEDDING!" At which point the judge will have a traumatic flashback and declare your guilt.

Dunno if it's your speed, but Eyedea & Abilities' By the Throat is one of my all-time favorites albums, that I can listen to pretty much straight through. Helps that it's like half an hour, but hey, at least then you could say you've listened to an entire rap album!

i dont know what the question is but im never getting married, also this place is so dead

Do you think it would help if we had kids?

Incidentally, as a testament to how dead SPPf is, I didn't know that you would get real-time alerts when somebody posted in a thread you were making a response to (as you did while I was writing this puppy out). Fancy. And yeah, I feel like there were at least two separate incidents. One where a bunch games section threads got shut down and all of the children there thought this was an appropriate place to spam, and another with Zenotwatpal and jenny (not Jenni) that ultimately brought about my very soigné signature. I wish I remembered more details, since this is obviously very important stuff. It's too bad the SPPf Wiki didn't have any staying power, because then this stuff would all be recorded for posterity in its annals.

And its been in the 90s here, and I'm sick of it already. Where I grew up, it rarely even got into the 80s, so it's safe to say that I am just never going to like hot weather. Dunno how Arizona does it.

The Sonic Boom cartoon was surprisingly good. I don't even care much about SOnic and really liked what I have seen,

Their name sounds familiar, I'll have to check them out.

I miss the wiki. (maybe because I was never on it though) Honestly the real magic of this place in my eyes was all the drama and shitposting. That stuff really got me through a tough period in my life, believe it or not. People got bored with discussing pokemon and wanted to show off how much cooler they were than those other pokemon playing losers, so it created an interesting culture around Misc.

It's the kind of lightning in a bottle that you can't recapture sadly, because it was a product of it's time and place. You had the set of kids who originally grew up on pokemon hitting high school and college, but adults being into pokemon genuinely into "geek stuff" hadn't totally hit the mainstream yet.

It's not just Serebii either, stuff online in general has changed since then.

this site didn't adapt fast enough to slow the death of the forum, theres no reason i should have to fear a ban because there were too many colors in sig, no macro in a thread about chatting when memes were really taking off was also dumb, so many usless rules that dont exist on gamefaqs or reddit

I blame shitty layout design changes somewhat, some mods were bias towards other users even when said users were being bullied and mass harassed.

I nuked my Gamefaqs account (for forum posting) because it's a god awful set of forums. I used to enjoy how bad it is, but then it got too bad.
I've seen transphobic remarks and posts endorsing harassment.

Gamefaqs could use more rules if anything, but I don't know if they can really span the rules over the entirety of the forums.

Honestly none of that bothers me, i believe that not everywhere needs to be a safe space, if something bothers you on the internet, you have the option of leaving. i've also see post and stuff that annoyed me or the like however if it was ever bad enough, i would simply block the user

The issue is these sites will run no-harassment rules, just like this forum does. If we had rules not to harass/discriminate for reasons someone can't change, then it's just really hypocritical at best.

Worst case you get sites like 8Chan, where a bunch of people from 4Chan got mad child porn wasn't allowed and decided to stake their reputation on that and mass shooters.

Auraninja

Eh, ragazzo!
I'm going to clarify what I meant by "endorsing harassment".

Because of the Sword/Shield dex controversy, I oversaw someone say that as long as it wasn't death threats, it was okay to harass Masuda (which is still wrong for obvious reasons).

The transphobia came from an original poster posting cosplay, and then everybody who wasn't me was responding with discouraging remarks about them.

Regardless, I rid my account because it isn't just a few people I can easily block. There were a mob of people who just post garbage posts that wouldn't fly on this site.
