Ghost in the Shell

I used the search functiuon and couldnt see a thread about it, so i thought that I would start one. If there is a thread, and i missed it, feel free to close this thread or whatever.

Anyway, I bought the GITS movie, the first one, last week, and actually found it really good. So, i decided to buy the SAC, volume 1, and i like it even more.

So, this thread is to discuss your opinions of this anime.

I will state what i think first. I think that the movie is a good film, but can be hard to understand at first, i mean with all of the talks of goverment actions and everything, but after that, it is pretty good. It has a compelling story, and i think it is pretty good. I have never read the manga for it, so i do not know how good it is compared. I also think that volume 1 of the SAC is really good, and episode 4 is great. I have heard that it dips a bit ibn the centre of the series, but i am still going to watch it.

Discuss your opinions.

A fantastic series, in my opinion. I can understand how many people would dislike it though as it does tend to get wordy at times. The only thing holding in back from rampant success is probably the wordiness and complexity of the plot. It certainly doesn't match the standard fare I'd expect to be discussed here. I haven't seen the movie in a while though in my memory it doesn't stand up as well when compared with SAC.

I love GiTS: SAC simply for the allusions to J. D. Salinger (author of Catcher in the Rye). Particularly, the episode that pertains to a Perfect Day for Banana Fish was a real kick for me. I also enjoy the discussions on consciousness and being and the Tachikoma's burgeoning sentience. Though the voice acting for them is quite shrill. 2nd gig, so far, hasn't hooked me with anything quite as strong as the whole Laughing Man incident did. Though I have seen a few interesting episodes (i.e the sniper from Section 9).

And visually it's quite good too. The animation is much better than most and the style is so clean. The characters and environments seem very refined and approach just the right level of realism.

I love GitS: SAC but I haven't seen the movies yet.2nd gig has failed to impress me so far but there has been some okay episodes.

So far, out of the GitS Ive seen, witch is only the Adult Swim run, and the first DVD of 2nd Gig, it hasnt failed to hook me, except for some of the more wordy episodes (Except ones with Tachikomas, because their sorta hard to ignore) I defintily enjoy everything about it. The action secans (like in episode four) are always well done, and the music is always awsome.

I'm hopin' that I'm not the only one who has seen the second movie here... which, ironically, I do prefer to the first movie (which is brilliant enough), despite the fact that the plot was rather simplistic. Maybe it was just the fact that I found Batou and Togusa acting together to be rather interesting (even dealing with the fact that their knowledge of philosophy and constant quoting of such made me question as to why they were cops instead of another profession). Perhaps it was the animation; perhaps it was the soundtrack; perhaps it was that the film was unarguably longer; perhaps it was the monotonous and overdone, albeit intriguing philosophical ideas that Kim presented when he hacked into Togusa's mind. Whatever it was, I prefer Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence over the original Ghost in the Shell.

I've not seen enough of the series, sad to say, but I intend on picking it up... eventually. Personally, though, including what I've seen of the series and watching both movies, it is definitely one of my top five favorite anime series.

I was beginning to think that there was no one in this forum who liked GITS. It seems like ages since i started this thread. But, at least someone has finally answered it.

I have seen the first movie, and enjoyed it, and I have the first 3 volumes of the series on DVD. I think that the SAC is much easier to understand than the movie. I will be getting the secong movie when i have bought all of these SAC volumes while they are pretty cheap here in the UK.

I think that the whole timeline, whaty goes where, is kind of confusing. I mean, where does the SAC fit in with the first film?

And, do you think the second film is good? I can tell you like it HellKorn, but is there anyone else?

I also went under the assumption no one here liked GITS as well.

I'm a stupid fanatic, and own, like every single first season SAC DVD, and I'm slowly aquiring the 2nd Gig ones as well.

If you haven't seen Innocence, I RECOMMEND YOU GO DO SO RIGHT NOW!!!! It's freakin' gorgeous. And I don't want to sound like one of those dub-haters, but I really reccommend you watch it in japanese. I thought the dub for is wasn't too great, and they cut out some of the coolest scenes. The subtitles give it charm as well.

And I'd just like to say: GITS is one of the very few animes I watch. I'm really not into anime to be honest, but Ghost in the Shell is one I really enjoy.

One thing I can say about GITS is that the major is smokin' hot!

OMG, when she's naked battling the tank in the end of the first movie...

Giggity, Giggity, Giggity, Heh, Heh, Alright....

Hmmm, I think I know the episode you're talking about, in which wealthy fetishists were at a formal to show off their "pleasure bots" (to be tactful). As far as sexual content it really wasn't standard fair for GitS, though they definitely don't veer away from mature topics. It's definitely not intended for younger viewers.

As much as I dislike the Tachikomas' voices, they reminded me of another episode that I really enjoyed from GitS:SAC. It involved a young girl looking for her dog, which had been dead for some time though she was aware of this. She references a story called "The Secret Goldfish" that parallels her own and alludes to Salinger once again. I believe this is also the episode with the Bananafish allusion.

UGH! I know its april fools but did they seriosuly have to edit GitS? Although I do find it funny at time lol.

That did seriously screw with the Seriousness, Itlooks like their airing another episoed, It might be the same one, without the childish Edits

I thought that all of the DVDs of GITS were unedited?
I mean, they even have the japanese language and the subtitles on it. I thought that they only has that if they were uedited?

Anyway. I bought volume 3 the other day, and i have yet to watch all of volume 2. mean, it seems like i do not have the time to watch it, even though i know that i do.
